The irony here is that this happened because the Blackhawks bid against a draft pick they allowed Florida to have top 10 protection on without notifying the fan base.

That 9th overall the Sharks were offering on Byram was a result of Florida protecting the 1st rounder from the Seth Jones trade with the Blackhawks. Now Florida upgrades and the Seth Jones return will likely be worse.

Sabres being a position to get 1 of Stenberg, Bjorck, or Malholtra into a forward prospect pool that is almost fully graduated to the NHL is a big deal IMO. They dont have much in the pipleline right now that wont be playing meaningful NHL minutes in the 26/27 season.

I wouldnt not want to draft a Dman as our D core is signed + young and last years 1st was also a D.

Were the Sabres not in on Thomas at the last TDL? From what I remember with the Parayko failed trade was they were trying to land both.

4th OA a piece they are trying to dangle for Thomas now? :sarcasm:

Bjorck could make a lot of sense from a team defense perspective. I don't know about his scoring ceiling other than his track record against peers, but he was very good defensively in the SHL. He was put on his team's top line and instantly changed the lineup because the top line was getting hemmed in defensively. Didn't put up a lot of points against men, but he kept them off the scoresheet.

Sabres' GM said his team needed to be harder to play against. Brought in Logan Stanley and Louis Crevier - BIG physical d-men. A visit to Buffalo will be like the good old days of The Aud, when the Sabres had Jim Schoenfeld and Jerry Korab.
I hate to burst your bubble but Crevier isn't physical

The 6'8" frame is just for show

People here see nothing but victory for BUF, but this is strange to me. BUF just want to keep drafting? I hope not. If they use this to get a really serious piece then great. But if they end up just drafting 4th OA, then they have done nothing to advance their objective. CHI on the other hand paid what it costs to get a top D (I'm assuming they see him as one).

HF is going have to swallow this bitter pill: The team that ends up with the best player in the deal wins the trade.

How is Davidson still employed this morning is the question? Does the owner know what happened? This is ridiculous.
We all like to play armchair experts here and it’s often laughable… But… I think even given a steady steam of Vodka. A blind fold. And a dart board to put post it note of choice on to throw at. And I could be a better GM than Davidson.

Don’t even know how to put into words how terrible this trade is for the Blackhawks.

Even if it was like Byram (50% retained) for #4 straight up, it would still be really bad for Chicago.

Bedsy might as well request a trade now instead of squandering a few more years on a mismanaged roster.
Request a trade?

He's extending for 8 years now that he has a 1D to play with

Bedard is tired of stockpiling picks and prospects

This is a move that inspires confidence

I guarantee you Bedard doesn't give a shit about waiting 4 years for Chase Reid to hopefully become a 2nd pairing defenseman

They currently have $26m in cap space. This deal wasn’t the needle to get Tuch re-signed.
I’m not saying they for sure are signing him. But this deal 100% gives them the space to now. They gotta resign benson(which could be 7+ long term), sign depth players to fill out their roster like Malenstyn and Krebs etc…Gets them out of the lucrative Byram extension next year and they just shed an extra 4 mil from greenway, they otherwise wouldn’t have had the cap to do that for the likely 10.5M it’d take to keep Tuch. Now they have the breathing room and flexibility to either resign Tuch or go after another big fish etc…

The roster is still brutal and youre about to pay a guy 10m+ without ever showing he can be a 1D.

You guys f***ed yourself burning it to the ground to try and get Bedard and have been struggling to get your head above water ever since.

Nazar as a 2c just lol...

See, you don't even watch

Nazar isn't the 2C

You shouldn't comment on things you don't know about

The burning it to the ground was not to just get Bedard... like I don't get peoples mentality here? Tanks are always a multi year tear down. We all know you don't win on 1-3 players, you dont tank and win anything but maybe a round for 7 years most times. That's the pattern and I am unsure why someone would think anyone would still think otherwise.
