Mike Amadio (F)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

IMO only can look more competent in a strong team like Vegas. He's pacing for 24 pts, so not that far from the 27 he had the last 2 seasons. He's a below average 3rd liner that's all.

He's "ok" but I have been clear from the start, not my type of player, too much Tierney-ish

I want my bottom-6 to be filled with Nick Pauls, Connor Browns, Mathieu Josephs, Danton Heinens, Stefan Noesens, Warren Foegeles, Ridly Greigs, Shane Pintos, etc.
Add a player like McGrattan for me.

Amadio is a smart player who makes good reads almost every time. The problem is that he's mind-bogglingly slow. About every second game there is a play where he has a clear lane to the net/slot and he just gets closed on by some average D.

He is just too slow on a team that needs some speed.
And SOFT!

Recency syndrome. His season work overall is not what I want. However, I hope he continues to score goals and get assists. Too slow and soft for me.

If Recency means the last 30+ games. Sure. I also found him quite snake-bitten first half of the year.

He's on pace to match career totals, which is basically what we got him for. I feel he'll only get better, too.

Yeah Amadio has completely turned his season around. he wasn't really great in the first 30 games portion, he was doing a good job defensively but was almost a black hole offensively so it was diminishing any positive impact. However I'm pretty sure these numbers would be much better in the next 30 games and even a bit better defensively (23 for offense, 73 for defense, 59 for the PK)

I need their solid play to be sustained for longer to fully embrace being wrong, but I'm getting there. lol

All 3 have been great since the 4 nations break and are showing why they got paid.
Yet in the other games played, they showed why they got paid too much! :)

The biggest improvement with this team this year has been their defensive play something few care about, but they have moved from near the bottom of the league in team defence to be one of the better defensive teams. If they can start scoring a little more 5 on 5, the rest of their game is fairly strong including special teams.

I expect that Hamonic, Forsberg, Cousins, Highmore & maybe Gaudette to be gone after this yr. It should be interesting what they do to upgrade that 4th line this summer.

After 67 games the Senators have scored 198 goals (14th in league) which is about average and allowed 193 goals (10th in the league) which is an improvement over last season.

It's what we have been saying for a few yrs now, that we have to reduce the goals against & the offence will take care of itself. They have reduced the goals against & now that Perron is healthy & Amadio starting to come on the offence is finding itself & the team is rounding into form & we are getting the secondary scoring we need. I also agree with you that they should have added some more size & toughness to that 4th line which IMO needs to be upgraded & likely will be this summer.

Regarding team defense... I see some praise but I think it comes down to finally having NHL coaching (still no idea what DJ Dorion hockey was) and sacrificing a bit of offense, but more importantly, much better goaltending.

5v5 :

2023-24 : 59.95 CA/60 (19th), 29.29 SA/60 (19th), 2.94 GA/60 (30th), 2.64 xGA/60 (23rd), 0.8995 SV% (30th)
2024-25 : 58.30 CA/60 (17th), 27.56 SA/60 (18th), 2.42 GA/60 (21st), 2.36 xGA/60 (7th), 0.912 SV% (17th)

PK :

2023-24 : 8.07 xGA/60 (14th), 0.826 SV% (32nd)
2024-25 : 8.62 xGA/60 (25th), 0.853 SV% (15th)

So looking at the defensive numbers, the improvement seems to come from goaltending... and the eye test confirms. Also, we score way less at 5v5 with 2.04 GF/60 (29th) vs 2.50 GF/60 last season and we are less dangerous (26th with 2.3 xGF/60 vs 18th with 2.55 xGF/60 last season) so yeah, sacrificing some ES offense to give up less ES scoring chances against.

I don't think there's any way to look at the numbers and think "this is a good team". We had some stretches with elite goaltending and the team was able to string together some wins but outside of these 3-4 win streaks... nothing suggests that we're much better than we were. The difference is coaching and goaltending IMO, which was the priority where this team needed to improve.

Amadio has played the right way all year imo. Nice to see him get rewarded more consistently. Doubling Joseph's production this year.

A decent signing in the end, still sucks that we had to lose a 3rd round pick in the process, Alfie knows how badly we need picks/prospects (but with the current scouting department, would it even be productive?)

Joseph had 65 pts in 139 games with Ottawa, I wonder if Amadio can beat that production in the 3 years he'll be there. Amadio doesn't PK like Jos but at least he has similar defensive metrics at ES. When a team makes a roster changes and you identify who replaces who, I think it's more vs what the last player was doing rather than what he does in the future, although that can become frustrating when that player breaks out even more like a Zibanejad or a Mark Stone lol

I don't think Joseph is as bad as his offensive numbers are this year either, just interesting how it played out.

he has a history of long gaps where he doesn't put up points

Here his best days were when he was elevated in the lineup especially when he first got here.

I always thought he was better suited to the bottom 6 and I think regardless of the points if he embraced that role and added more physicality on the forecheck and overall he would increase his worth to the team. Not sure that's the way he thought of himself as a player.

Amadio doesn't directly replace him as he's more a 2-way bottom-6 forward while Joseph is a versatile 2-way PK forward, he can play anywhere in the lineup to bring speed, tenacity and a bit of offense when fillling holes, short term replacement for injuries (he's a bit like Formenton was in a sense). I was worried that Amadio was just a Vegas product because he didn't look like a NHL player in his first passage with Ottawa but he went to the right school there. If I was Staios I'd actually be looking to acquire other players who played for the GK

But losing that 3rd still sucks, I guess that was part of the price to pay to change the "culture", maybe Joseph has a bit of the Zbad syndrome
