Mike Amadio (F)

Amadio @ $2.6 million to be the 10th forward who can slot up to the 3rd line in case of injury is totally fine, if a little underwhelming because of how vanilla he is.

That being said, on a Senators team that literally has to go 11/7 for long stretches because they have no cap space the money would have been better served elsewhere. This team as a whole has terrible depth but you can't convince me that Highmore/Reinhard/Jenik/MacEwan are THAT much worse than what Amadio has done this season and they would all be able to do it for the league minimum.

I would hope a re-vamped bottom-six is a priority for Staois in the off-season and part of that may be punting on this Amadio experiment.

Perron obviously fits in the same category but I can at least understand that one a little more from Staois' POV because DP has shown more offensive ability than Amadio ever has and is theoretically a guy that can slide higher in the lineup if needed.

Not to completely bag on Amadio who has had some good stretches, but even at his best I think he was the F9 on this team and, personally, knowing how close to the cap this team is/was I'd have filled out the bottom of the lineup for cheaper.

I like him... complementary player that looked really good with Pinto when the Sens were at their best

Good reads, good stick,,, not super skilled with the puck

Amadio at 2.6 isn’t horrible this seems like a down year for him. It’s just compounded with Perron at 4.0.

IMO only can look more competent in a strong team like Vegas. He's pacing for 24 pts, so not that far from the 27 he had the last 2 seasons. He's a below average 3rd liner that's all.

He's "ok" but I have been clear from the start, not my type of player, too much Tierney-ish

I want my bottom-6 to be filled with Nick Pauls, Connor Browns, Mathieu Josephs, Danton Heinens, Stefan Noesens, Warren Foegeles, Ridly Greigs, Shane Pintos, etc.

How did Mathieu Joesph make it into that list

He was pretty good last year, played the way a bottom-6 forward needs to play. He has excelled on the PK his whole NHL career. Sure he has consistency problems due to being injuring prone and maybe off ice problems but I was referring to his 2023-24 season, of course.

Well he’s fine but those otherplayers are just in another echelon of bottom 6 players

Amadio is a smart player who makes good reads almost every time. The problem is that he's mind-bogglingly slow. About every second game there is a play where he has a clear lane to the net/slot and he just gets closed on by some average D.

He is just too slow on a team that needs some speed.

Amadio's not bad. Slightly overpaid for what he brings to the table, which is a smart two-way game with about 20-30 points a season without PP time.

I'm sure he was getting offers in the 1.7-1.9M range from more desirable markets with less tax. Probably had to pay him an extra 500k or so to convince him to come here. Small town Canada tax.

Don't have much of an issue with him. It's Perron that was the dumb signing of the offseason and said so at the time.

This guy is the master at making smart small little plays. Very smart player, and a big asset to that third line now that he's developed some chemistry with Pinto and Greig, who are also both intelligent players.

So weird how virtually every move made by Staois have been good additions. The worst was probably Gregor and I didn't really mind him as a 4th liner.

Amadio has really impressed me with his poise and consistent play. Great pickup. Dorion would've spent that money on a guy like Tomas Tatar.

Gregor got us Zetterlund, so not even bad.

Perron is also turning a corner, after taking a lot of flack. 6 points so far in 8 games this March. Even bringing in Green as coach was widely criticized around here. At least in the short term, it looks like a good move.

I think Amadio is the type of player that gets better when the team around him gets better. Pinto and Greig have been much better than they were early on. Maybe the early Pinto injury didn't help, maybe it took some time for the team to adjust to Green's hockey systems. The key this season is that we finally have NHL management and coaching... the contrast with DJ Dorion hockey is significative, sometimes we were able to outscore our problems but overall the team is much better now despite not being more talented.

Regarding Amadio, crazy how much better he has been in March than he was early in the season, Green is not the loudest guy but he has been pushing them in the right direction. Finally having an efficient 3rd line makes a difference.

Last 8 games : 4 goals 7 points
First 48 games : 5 goals, 14 points

I find he has been better in overall play too

I really wish we had 2.600 in cap space instead of him.
Same goes for Perron (4.000)
Greig also isn't worth 3.250 next year (yet?).

Some questionable contracts by Staios thus far...
Did you change your mind about Staios and those 2, 3 players?

That was the hardest earned and very well deserved empty net goal for Amadio. Had a great great game.
If only Ridley had scored on one of his chances early, it would have been one more jab at Leaf fans.

There would have been lots of time for another empty netter, too.

That line was out for the majority of the empty net and is clearly the shutdown group. Green has so much trust in them.

I need their solid play to be sustained for longer to fully embrace being wrong, but I'm getting there. lol

All 3 have been great since the 4 nations break and are showing why they got paid.
