First of all, couldn’t you do this through xCloud on the Microsoft Edge browser? I don’t see why not.

Secondly, I don’t really think it’s a ‘hugely beneficial feature that’s missing’. Like, at all, really. If I’m sitting at home on my console, I can just boot up the game - no need for cloud. If I’m on the go, xCloud just added support for iOS.

Plus, don’t PS Now games stream at 720p through cloud gaming? I don’t think I’d be able to handle that lol
On xbox? I doubt it. Remember I dont use this for myself I can stream on android or through browser (I think this came out like last week though ftr its very recent, PS Now has been around forever) but I'm talking about having people over on the couch. I can play any game instantly zero need to mess with storage or downloading. Theres also cross-save between streaming and local storage on Playstation so you can stream while the game is installing.

This is a huge feature for me. When I have friends over I dont necessarily have time to download 5 games that I rarely play that are all 20-50 GB each.

As for 720p streaming. Its all about bitrate. People dont realize this because they see low bitrate 720p youtube/twitch streams. There are VHS tapes or at least dvds that look better than youtube 720p. The 720p PS Now streams at looks fine. Keep in mind I understand the limitations of streaming this is not my preferred method but its huge when people are over. Its something you dont know you miss when youve never had it tbh.

If theres a way to use xcloud on xbox someone let me know I'm genuinely curious.

edit: though I'll be honest if it actually was possible to stream xbox games on xbox through browser i probably would never use it. On Playstation its just so convenient its literally just a button you press on the game. At the very least I gotta have my xcloud streaming app.

No, I understand what you mean. I just don't really see it as some huge feature that's missing. I was thinking of a time I would think "this is awesome", and the only time I could really think of one would be to try out a game I'm not sure I'd like for 20 minutes before I fully download it.

I have a pretty big external hard drive to transfer games between, and a pretty fast internet connection to download a game very quickly. I guess not everyone does, but in that case I'm not sure how well video game streaming would be. From what I've heard, it can be really frustrating when the internet lags or flickers.

I'm assuming it's possible, given you can now stream xCloud through PC web browsers. And the Microsoft Edge browser got updated to pretty much become the PC version of it - you can stream Stadia onto your Xbox Series console.

All I'll say is, I've used it, I use it all the time, and its extremely useful. I have a 2 tb external hard drive on my PS5 and gigabit internet, its useful even on there, you dont have every game installed on there because theres games you dont want installed on there or dont think to have installed on there until someone comes over. Or even something you just want to play quick to try out. Itd be 100 times more useful on the series S where I'm just not going to buy an external hard drive for it.

Again, trust me, it works (if you have semi-decent internet), its good, and its something you only dont miss when you dont have it. Think about it, why have less options? Sony has this feature and their service is literally half the price of xbox. All these games are already available for streaming on android, its not a rights issue.

Even if it worked a browser based solution is just inferior to what Sony has with streaming being a single button press. I got to have my built in xcloud. I got to have it.

Edit: which btw about the fast internet thing. Sony and Microsoft limit your download speed so it doesn't actually matter whether you have gigabit or not. It depends on your region but generally in NA the max speeds you get are like 150-100 Mbps when downloading games.

That’s fair. I’m sure if Xbox feels like it’s a feature people would use, they’ll add it. Phil Spencer has made the brand very consumer-friendly this generation and they’re doing some great things with xCloud.

Also, PS Now isn’t really half the price of Game Pass, at least not with the Game Pass Ultimate deal. PS Plus $70 + PS Now $80 = $150, GamePass Ultimate = $200.

And let’s not act like even if it was double, it’s not the better deal. Any game released by a Microsoft Studio on Day 1, random AAA third-party games released Day 1 plus in the future, EA Play, xCloud for mobile gaming, Game Pass for PC which includes PC-only games, Perks, Rewards, massive backlog, discounts on games. PS Now can’t really compete.

I have a friend who had a One X but went with the PS5 at launch and he’s been playing his Xbox more the past couple months because of Game Pass

Ps Now is $60 I'm pretty sure. And paying for online is a scam. I don't count it. Regardless nowhere do I say PS Now is as good as gamepass. But you got to at least have feature parity with this inferior service.

Everywhere I search online says $80 CAD (those were the prices I was using).

I agree online is a scam but I can’t see it going away. Making way too much money off them.

Wouldn’t you say xCloud’s mobile streaming at least makes up for PS Now having a built-in button in their app, while Game Pass you have to use Microsoft Edge?

Oh I thought you were American. Yes it is $80 cad (though I actually got it on sale for $60).

You know I have to be honest the mobile streaming doesn't do it for me. I actually bought the overpriced Razer controller Microsoft was selling on sale for $100 and I still couldn't get into it. With that said for those that enjoy it I'm sure it's just as huge as the PS now feature is for me and that's what it's all about.

Gotta say, it's a real trip playing Persona 3: FES, Metroid Prime, and Halo 3 on the same console.

Are you guys really noticing that much of a graphical difference with your Series X? I have a X1 and a 65” 4K tv. Went to my buddy’s place over last week and played his series X on his 85” TV. Played Madden, the Show, and Halo MCC and they all looked great...just not a major improvement that I’d expect from a next-gen console and a potential $650 purchase.

Considering the shortage of supply I may just wait a few more years until the “One X” equivalent comes out and buy then. My X1 is still kicking it and since there haven’t been many (or any) games released that I can’t play on my X1 I’m not sure if it’s a necessary purchase

I would say it's definitely not a necessary purchase if you have a One X at this point especially with how rare the series X is and how there's not going to be next gen exclusives on series X for years.

The One X just has a great GPU. It plays RDR2 at native 4k. Not a simple task.

However, the series consoles are definitely gamechanges because of the faster loading and quick resume. I really underestimated quick resume. I swear I've never had a game that supported quick resume close on me and I've opened like 20 games at a time. I still don't know it's limit.

It’s an awesome feature for sure. You haven’t played RDR2 yet by any chance, have you? Curious to see if that game loads just as fast as you’re saying. I also had to stop playing Jedi: Fallen Order because the load times inbetween deaths were so ridiculous

I own RDR2 on PS5 but the load times on Jedi Fallen order are probably a lot better (I don't have it on the originally). Like 10 second load times between deaths. Though even that's insanely long to me after playing Nioh 2 on PS5 with 3-4 second load times after death.

A few games I did and some are minor. It really depends on what the developer did

There aren’t enough optimized games built specifically for this console yet to say. Is it a better experience, yes.

Outriders is deceptively deep in combat but gated behind specific classes. There is a lot of very interesting symmetry behind the weapon mods and class abilities that are far more sophisticated and progressive than in most other games of the genre.

If they had better writing and more interesting environments the game could have been something special.

'Generic but fun' may as well be the company motto for People Can Fly.

Painkiller was generic Doom/Quake/Heavy Metal atmosphere, but the weapons, physics and massive bosses made it a ton of fun.

Bulletstorm's characters, story and multiplayer were entirely forgettable, but the points-scoring system and encounter design made it a blast to play through.

Outriders is similar. If you focus in on the mechanics, it's actually a great shooter. It's just that everything wrapped around those core mechanics is boring and eye-roll worthy.
