I'm very doubtful Strome is going anywhere, just my opinion, i think he's got a big place in the room, he'd have to be fair in his deal ofcourse. i kinda feel that they will try and find money for Copp outside of Strome as well, is that Georgiev, Chytil, Nemeth's money that might facilitate that? I haven't looked into the actual numbers but there are pieces that can be moved out to facilitate that, especially with Othmann, Jones, Lundkvist etc in the wings. Thats just my opinion though. I think they both stay
It’s certainly a reasonable opinion. But my thinking is that they would have done the deal by now were it going to happen. I’d say it’s like 75-25 Strome walks.

I think Chytils been good and will continue to get better lol.

All the talk about Lafreniere and Kakkos usage seems to make everyone forget that Chytil also came to this team as a teenager and has had like 3 games over 5 years with a capable linemate. He was a raw 21st OA pick, not a 1 or 2. Chytil is a great example of the fact that kids need to develop and grow offensively just as much as defensively, and that if you don't have a plan for how to do that or what the player can become, then you end up with a stalled product.

There's just too many examples of players who are deemed done, complete, and mediocre who have gone somewhere else and gotten better opportunities in better lineups and have thrived--at any age from early twenties to early thirties. I think this board is way too hard on Chytil. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see him become a great player for us over the years. But just my opinion.

Good post. Just to add on a point, we've seen Zibanejad go from a talented and under-producing 23-year-old to an elite center. I really don't see how we can say Chytil is done developing at 22.

The defensemen lineup is looking amazing. Next season I hope we get Jones playing regularly. Vet for the 7D is fine but I’d love to see 79-23, 6-8, 55-45. I like 27 too but might be hard to make room for him.

It was a thing of beauty to hear PK Slewban getting booed in his own barn as if we were playing at MSG. Loved it.
WOW! I almost forgot we were playing in Jersey hearing that. Sam and Joe pointed out he was getting booed,... but didn't mention it was on his home ice. LOL!

Welcome to watching a team on pace for 50+ wins. There’s consequences for everything. It’s not all good. Their top-6 is loaded and healthy. He’s 20 years old. Their PP has been together for two years and went 2/2 last night. He’s going to have to take advantage of his minutes in the playoffs with Chytil and Kakko. No reason that line shouldn’t chip in a goal every now and then even without PP time.
I've been reiterating this all season long to Laff fans. He just doesn't deserve top minutes on this team. Not with the top six we have. He was given looks up there, and will eventually move up, but right now, replacing anybody's 18 to 20 minutes is not on his plate just yet.

And as you said, this will bode well for us in the playoffs, with our 3rd line consisting of 3 first round picks. The Kids line 2.0

I'll be excited to see what they can do.

Folks, I'm just gonna keep saying it, I don't care what happened in that one specific example you remember.

Over a large sample of games this year, the Devils control 5v5 play very well.

They have their warts and that's why we won the game, but I'm not gonna sit here and count shots after a basically even game with a good 5v5 opponent.
And after all, they are the Devils, and not the Canes or the Pens. They aren't exactly a team we are excited about playing. It's not uncommon to lift our foot off the gas pedal against a bottom dweller.

I don't think you can equate our play against them, with that of a playoff contender. For as sure as sheet we will play a full 60 vs Pens next game.

This offseason will be interesting. I dont think we can make any concrete predictions until we see how the team performs in the playoffs. They may be able to keep both Copp & Strome, but it would mean guys like Lindgren & Kakko get added to the bucket of moveable players with Nemeth/Chytil/Blais.
Kakko should be untouchable. Kid has so much upside in my humble opinion.

Braden Schneider's neck.... now that's an elite neck. Kravtsov could only wish... @EdJovanovski is crying
You know Braden dropping the gloves, just had to give him bonus points in Gallant's eyes. Gallant doesn't make much of it in his media availability. But for a coach who fought an incredible 46 times, in a 3 year span when he played,..... you just know how much in his eyes, his stock just rose.

It was the same thing with Reavo in Vegas. And now he is here. He just loves guys who can play and be tough.

I doubt Schneider will miss another start this year.

You got me, I made a mistake making fun of that dumb opinion. One fight isn't going to keep Schneider in for the rest of the season.

Yeah. One fight isn't keeping him in the lineup forever. It's the NHL. Every team is run by dinosaurs. He's not a vet. Next bad shift and he will sit for 2 games.

Both you guys are missing the point. Which is his stock just rose for a head coach who loved to mix it up.

I said probably. As in I doubt he will sit another game. Are there senarios where he might sit? Of course there are! We could clinch a playoff position and sit him for a meaningless game. He can have an off night and get a day off to come back and have another excellent performance. Or Gallant could want to take another look at Braun and Nemeth together.

Point is there are 11 games left, and he did play 25 straight before the TDL. So it is not exactly a stretch to believe he might finish up the season playing in all the meaningful games left. I doubt anyone will actually play in all 11 games, with their being a good chance there will be a game or two that won't matter. But that aside, you get what I mean. His stock just rose, off of yes,... Just One Fight. His 1st fight in the NHL.

Gallant isn't playing both Laf and Kakko on PP1 next year. Copp would take over for Strome. Looks like both will max out as 50-60 point guys, maybe, as long as they aren't playing any PP.
Maybe that's our secret way to stay under the cap and get them on decent contracts. Then in their early 20s they explode!

I think he can still be a good player, I just don't see him fitting with anyone on this team. I resign Copp then use Nils and Chytil to get a Center upgrade if it's up to me.

I think Chytil is getting unneccessary hatred at the moment because Lafreniere has gone on another pointless streak. Even though Chytil has clearly been the best player on that line. It would be nice if he could get some help from his wingers but that's not really happening.

He is a black hole offensively, if he was on the 4th line id absolutely love his game, as it is our 3rd line needs to put up some points. It has nothing to do with Lafreniere, Chytil is a fast tall player who protects the puck along the wall well, his inability to create offense for himself or anyone else on his line is the problem. If this team is going anywhere in playoffs we need 3rd line production and he isn't a part of that.

For me, it was that whole sequence and timing. We're down already against a non-playoff team who previously embarrassed us, he comes out and freight-trains Boqvist with a textbook hit - incinerates the challenger who jumped him, then later told Miles Woods to take a seat in the corner (whose no slouch whatsoever). As Gallant would say, he played a man's game out there.

I agree with you that he's likely to stay in for the meaningful games and out when a rest/recovery is needed. I can't remember the last time we had this many capable and up 'n coming D in the pipe. It's a great time to be a fanl :)

Cheers!
