Michkov has been the least of Philly's concerns, they're a trainwreck. I dont see how sitting Michkov helps the team at all.

I bet Matvei wasn't showing enough 'spect.

Okay, but most of those players you named suck and aren’t NHL players. Michkov is the most important player in the organization. Making sure he develops right is very important.

It’s not an issue for one game. It’s an issue if it becomes a habit of Torts. He has to realize that you can’t keep going back to this well. You use it once or twice and then you have to accept the results and try to instill your message another way.

If he does that, fair enough. Don’t think it’s an issue for one game. That happens to virtually every rookie, and almost a certainty when you’re dealing with an old school coach.
If the kid doesn’t get it after s couple healthy scratches he’ll be sent down to the ahl to figure it out

I thought I would be irritated when I realized tonight's game is behind a paywall, even for locals...... but I didn't really care. I should probably be irritated with Torts playing games with our best prospect..... but I don't really care.

That pretty sums how I feel about the Flyers these days....... I just don't really care

You can’t ask a 19 years old who’s got a lot of defensive deficiencies to come into the best league in the world and play like a vet. Michkov will be fine. He’s not the only one that goes through that learning process.

Tell that to Bedard.... a similarly skilled player who was horrible defensively last year, yet got 20 minutes a game.
Michkov should be treated similarly. Players like Bedard/Michkov are smart enough to eventually figure out the D zone over time. And it's not like the Flyers are going anywhere anyhow.

Michkov should play 22 minutes per game with carte blanche. When he has a good ice time he was a PPG, the last 4 games he plays 13 minutes, it's not surprising that he "slowed down". If the Philly GM had a double-digit IQ, Torts would have been fired yesterday

They had no other choice with Bedard last year as it was either the NHL or CHL. I think he's much better this year defensively than he was last year. Also, Bedard last year was producing at 5v5, which Michkov had a hard time to do so far this year.

I also agree they are smart enough to eventually figure it out. I'm not too worried about it.

This is a nothing burger. If he thinks it might benefit him to see the game from a different pov and then come back the next game with a new mindset or whatever then he's just trying to help the kid. At the end of the day, Michkov is likely going to be the team's franchise star for the foreseeable future and having him spin his wheels in place instead of re-directing him when he's obviously starting to struggle isn't that big of a deal for a young prospect. I highly doubt he sits for any considerable length of time.

he won't get faster of bigger after being scratched. michkov will be an idiot to spend any time in the ahl when there is a khl option. if it's the ahl for him he should play a couple of season in the khl instead.

There was no need to send Bedard to the CHL, he was a NHL level player. Same as Michkov currently. .

Chicago's coaches understood certain advantages of being in a rebuild. They were astute enough to give Bedard a carte blanche to do his thing and develop; this despite giant defensive deficiencies. They knew he'd eventually figure it out.

Michkov would probably be given the same treatment on a rebuilding Flyers roster if he wasn't coached by Roman Rotenberg Part II.

There is a trend of occasionally scratching rookie players so they don’t flame out due to the much more demanding schedule than their previous league. Part of the process.

People here are talking like Michkov was exiled to the wastelands or something. He's a 19 year old that is getting scratched for a game. This is a big bunch of nothing except for the fact it's Tortorella. People can't resist a shot at him, no matter how thin.
