Confirmed with Link: Michael Rasmussen signs three year extension

He was one of the best red wings at the end of the season.

No. Not even close.
Rasmussen is still not playing at NHL level.
And I'm fine with that.
I don't hate the contract.
But calling him "one of the best Red Wings" or this contract "a steal" just doesn't have much basis in reality.

Let's see how he looks together with Bergreen And other skilled winger.

Many of us knew what we were drafting that day. He was ranked high, but definitely exclusively because of his size. I never hated a draft pick we made more, but alas, we are far beyond that point. I’d rather just focus on Rasmussen being the best player he can be for us.
I like that he is young and still improving. Not mad about this contract for the record .

Won't help. All of his NHL goals are within 10 ft of the crease, Berggren needs to play with a shooter with more range that can find the open ice. I'm hoping Joey can be that kid.

This is a bottom 6 contract for a bottom 6 player. About as exciting as the poop I took this morning. Just something that had to be done, and now we're good for a while.

Kinda easy to be when Larks, Bert, Fabbri & Zadina are on the shelf & a overworked Hronek playing ~25TOI.

Ras is not a Top6F, not now, probably never, imo. I don't even see him as a shutdown C either, but his size suggests he may be able to cheat a bit & fill that role to some degree. 3W/3C & PP2-net is a realistic expectation.

Also, Veleno looked waaaay better in the top6 role, albeit 5gp. Mick & SY raved about him for a reason.

There is just one person being negative about every single thing. That same person would jump for joy if we signed Athanasiou to a 7x7 contract. So..

Negative?

How dishonest do you have to be to call my take negative?

How much money were you expecting Rasmussen to get?
$2M a year? $1.8M? $2.5M?

For this deal to be a "steal" you'd need to have a general target that's "fair" and then Rasmussen would have to come in way under that target.

But you don't bother guessing that figure. You just say Godzerman had a steal.

Typical home-team messageboarding.

Ken Daniels talked about how he and Mick had to essentially put on their salesman hats and really lean into the hype train of prospects the past few years because it's the only way they were able to keep any interest from the viewers. The same reason there were so many conversations on the draft prospects for this upcoming class.

They were talking highly of Veleno because it was his first handful of games and they want fans to have some hope. People who have watched Rasmussen all season long didn't need to be told what he was doing that showed glimpses of potential. They were familiar with him.

Veleno also didn't really play much of a top 6 role. Nor did he do a ton of heavy lifting at the center position. He was out there to skate and get a feel for the pace.

i luuuuuuuuuuuuuv this . 3 x 1.5 for a hustling competitive big man thats still in his developmental era ands still rfa next contract = luuuuuuuv . razz gives us a break this contract then if he develops big time he gets paid in 3 years . more good work by ' the bc sage '

Its an alright contract on a guy who is dancing on the line between NHL player and not. If it pans out, it'll be a great call, if not, Detroit has the cap to eat it.

Almost all of it can be buried if he sucks badly. That isn't a big deal at all.

Bury limit:
2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000
2022-23: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000
2023-24: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000

As I said, its alright. I am not a Ras fan at all, and don't think he was impressive at any point last season. But there's no reason not to resign him and the term was reasonable.

Never called it a steal.

I think the combination of 3 years and this cap hit makes it a good deal. He'll improve a lot during these 3 years.

Not disagreeing with you at all, just posting the numbers.

Like I said before, it's like taking a poop. Just something that had to be done, and I'm not at all excited about it one way or the other.

I don't know if he'll improve much.
But I think this deal has potential to be good for the Wings.
But as of right now? Rasmussen is such an unknown there's no way to speak with certainty about this deal.
