On one hand, I really want to beat the Pens.
On the other, I don't want to face the Bruins in the ECF and lose our 1st rounder.

I guess I'll be fine with any outcome.

Clearly we should beat the Penguins and draw the Canadiens in the ECFs.

Honestly, if we're going to go that far we might as well just win the cup. No reason not to.

If we made it to, and subsequently came out on top of, the ECF I'd be extremely confident going into the finals. But Boston's the so called powerhouse and even Montreal has had our number for a while. Anyway, I've followed the top prospects more closely than I ever have before so I'd be pretty bummed if we lost the pick and had nothing to show for it.

Most important thing is to get into Fleury's head early on in the series. I don't mean running him or anything like that. I mean, maybe a lot of goals in the first game. His confidence is probably as high as it's been in recent years after his first playoff series win in 3 years, it's got to be a weight off his back. Don't give him time to start getting into a groove.

Best case is to win game 1 while scoring 4-5 goals on Fleury.

Play smart puck possession hockey and we have a chance. Give them too many PPs and we don't. Simple as that.

We play to win
Hard
Now
Not to get a #23 1st round pick
Shame on some of you desktop strategists

This. Utterly bewildered that some fans don't want to make it to the ECF because that means our 2nd to TB becomes a 1st. It will be a late 1st anyway. We play to win the stanley cup. Getting closer to the finals is more important than a draft pick (lottery ticket). Rangers were smart to sign college FAs to try and offset the loss of picks.

Boston or Montreal would be tough, but it's the playoffs. Everybody is tough and anything can happen. Hell, the team many experts picked to win the whole thing and one of the best teams in the league, in San Jose, just lost a 3-0 series lead and got knocked out in the first round. Who knows what can happen. Rask or Price could go down. Other key players could get hurt, teams can get beat up and lose steam and lose confidence. It's the playoffs.

As for the schedule, it's an utter joke. 6 games in 9 nights for us. Unreal.

For me it's mostly the prospect of missing out on three 1st rounders in a row. Winning now is great but I also want a steady supply of young talent to keep us competitive for years to come. Yeah the college FAs help but it's rarer to find real NHL talent there. And it's not that I don't want to make it to the ECF, I'm just not that confident we could make it out and a loss there would feel like a double loss to me.

But I'll root for the Rangers regardless. Not going to root against the team just because Sather traded a pick I wanted. And I think we DO stand a chance against Pittsburgh if our big guys show up. MAF looked shakier than ever for parts of that first round.

We have absolutely no chance of beating Pittsburgh in this series. Does anyone on this board honestly believe otherwise?

Sorry, but I think Pitt is exploitable and has some holes, and I honestly think we're gonna win this.

Lets see.
Orpik injured
Letang is recently back after suffering a stroke
Fleury is their starting goaltender.
2 of their centers got injurd in game 6 against colombus
There's also rumors of crosby playing with an injury.

DID I MENTION THEY HAVE FLEURY IN NET?

Orpik is garbage, losing him makes them better.

But, yes, acting like we don't have a prayer is silly. Hell, we may lose in five games, but there's no reason why winning the series isn't at least a possibility.

Pitt just does not scare me like they have in years past. This series will hinge on Nash, McD being on top of their game and the teams ability to stay disciplined. play 5 on 5 and I like the Rangers chances in this one.

The Rangers should have taken care of business earlier in the Philly series. The schedule in the Pittsburgh series is a disaster coming off a seven game series.

5 games in 7 nights! Who is making these schedules? The Tom Renney line generator?

This is brutal. Our own fault for not taking care of Philly faster, but what the actual ****

Rangers in 6.

I don't think the Pens have the depth needed to advance, the Rangers have 4 lines putting goals on the board at the moment.

Always a tough matchup against Pit though, Malkin has had their number his whole career and anytime you are playing against the 2 best forwards in the world it isn't going to be a walk in the park

Toews and Tavares are better than Malkin, in my opinion. Datsyuk and Kopitar might also be.

Girardi and especially McD have to step it up if we want to have any chance. Also our PK has to be better, the Pens will be handed lots of PPs when they'll need them.

A few thoughts on playing Pittsburgh.

If you disregard 2 certain players on their team, you face this roster:
Matt Niskanen (D)
Paul Martin (D)
Jussi Jokinen
Brandon Sutter
Chris Kunitz
Beau Bennett
Lee Stempniak
Brooks Orpik (D)
Craig Adams
Olli Maatta (D)
Kris Letang (D)
James Neal
Rob Scuderi (D)
Tanner Glass
Joe Vitale
Robert Bortuzzo
Marcel Goc

Ie, a team with a really good blueline and some physical spark. Very little scoring depth after two lines.

And I think the above applies to Pittsburgh as a team, but they have the ability to put the puck in the back of the net at any give time with Sid and Malkin.

We definitely has an advantage in terms of deph. All though I am not that impressed with how our 3rd, Richard's line, has played, they should have an advantage.

I think this is basically what it comes down to. Pittsburgh will have an advantage on the special teams. We might play them fairly even 5 on 5 when our top 2 lines match-up. We need to have 3rd and 4th lines that manage to really take it to them.

With 3 games in 4 nights coming up, a lot could be decided early. Remember that this is a chance for us too. We shouldn't be dead tired to play a game tomorrow night. That is a big game 1 that we should be as well prepared for as possible, while Pittsburgh might be a tad cold. If we can win G1, we have two back-to-back games coming up that we will play with Pittsburgh having the back against the wall in, could we take one of them after winning G1, we are in a really good spot going forward of course. OTOH, if we loose G1 we really need to battle in those 5th and 6th games in 8 nights...

I feel like it's a better match up than the Flyers.

Really? I was really confident that the Rangers would beat the Flyers. Sure, they had me worried there for a minute after game 6, but overall, I would've been disappointed had they lost to them. I thought they were the better team.

Uh, yeah I do actually.

Pens are not a strong possession team and their best defenseman is Paul Martin. Fluery is either Hasek or a third string back-up. The only reason the Pens have a chance every year is because they have the two best centers and players in the world. Sutter was their first round MVP imo. He's basically a better Dominic Moore.

Keys to winning:

No dumb penalties for obvious reasons.
McD-Girardi and Staal-Stralman need to make life hell for Skidney and co.
Test Fluery the same way they tested Mason last night. Pucks on the net and get in his head.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FIX THE ****ING ABYSMAL POWER PLAY.

If the PP was clicking they probably beat Philly in 5, definitely in 6.
