I'll admit that in a hurry, with a lightly frosted windshield, that if there was a patch open that didn't require scraping and it was towards the passenger side, I've been known to lean over to see while driving...

This is part of why I enjoy living in central North Carolina. It'll snow a couple times a winter, but usually not much, so it'll look pretty for a day or so, then melt in two days when the high is inexplicably 65 degrees in mid-January.
