Yup regardless how it ends if we finish 3 or less points within a wild card that spot that’s where I and a majority of fans predicted the season would go. The team took a big step towards becoming a playoff team.

These are the biggest games in Chabot, Stutzle, Batherson, Tkachuk, etc careers

At the start of the year I thought the year would be a success if they played meaningful games in March and averaged over 15 000 in attendance. Both criteria will be met.

Even if they miss the playoffs by 5 or 6 points this will be more interesting than playing out the string in March.

We need to make up 5 points to catch the Penguins who currently hold the last wild card spot. We have played the same amount of games as Pittsburgh. Islanders have one more point than Pittsburgh, but have played 4 more games.

Buffalo might be the team to watch. The last game of the year is against Buffalo. Would be pretty wild if we are tied with them going into the last game of the year.

I just hope that Dorion doesn't become a buyer.

If we are good enough to go 10-3-1 in our last 14 then we don't need help to continue on that trajectory.

I understand that March will have tougher opponents than February. So there might be an inclination to add depth to stay on a hot streak.

It’s March 1st and we have a chance. If we miss the playoffs which is still likely at least our young core has a taste of how good this feels. Team seems more committed to defensive effort which is nice. All this without a system change.

How's it going to feel if we miss by a point or 2 and hadn't done anything at the deadline except ship out a couple of bodies? The GM's job is to improve the team at every possible opportunity. Put some wind in their sails and show them you're trying to get them over the hump.

TSN showed we have a 4 % chance at the playoffs before last nights win

Wonder what it is now

We are further than it seems

Lets see what the team can do here

It's still too far out for percentages to really mean anything at this point. 10 games left is when those numbers have some real meaning behind them.

I like that we're still technically in the hunt. Realistically, we're not going to make it, but I do like the idea of the kids chasing the mechnical rabbit for the next month and try to develop some consistency and push for that last wildcard spot. Show us they have some jam and can make the next level of intensity their baseline game next season.

I think we are at 5.5% but we have games against the teams we are chasing. We control our own destiny. I still think it’s unlikely we make it but it’s fun in March which is refreshing

Depending on whose forecast you’re using , different percentages.
TSN showed one from the Athletic Dom Luszczyszyn. ( not the best track record)

Checked a couple of those playoff predictor sites and the ones that updated after last nights game have us at closer to 16/17% chance to make the playoffs now. Every game against a team we're chasing is gonna swing those odds pretty viciously in either direction.

The athletic hasn't updated yet today as far as I can tell, as they have Detroit at 14%, I'm sure once they factor in last night the Sens will canibalize a chunk of that percentage.

I hope the boys learned one valuable lesson this year - you CAN'T extend your summer break into October and half of November. Be ready to play and battle from the first game next season and you will do great.

Now, do your best and try to steal that wildcard post, so that you can also get some playoff experience this year.

I think NYI holds the last spot. Yes, technically it is Pittsburgh but by winning percentage it's NYI and it's us chasing that spot along with Buffalo

The Islanders have played 500 hockey since December and Florida not much better. If those trends hold, it's us and Buffalo chasing the last spot.

We've got a tough schedule but it's going to be fun

Regardless of what happens the rest of the way, I’m simply happy to have interesting games in March. This team has taken a giant leap this year and I’m stoked for our future. It took 78 games to reach 30 wins last season. It took 60 games this season. Thats a significant improvement already

We're better than you think, if we reach the playoffs each game is huge if not essential for the players for making them again next year and to go further into them

So I always look at the standings in the same way to get a rough idea of points percentage easy and that is how many more wins then losses does a team have

the islanders are currently +6 but they are in a fake playoff spot due to games played
penguins are +9, Sabers are +7. we are +4 so assuming we have the tie breaker we have to win 3 more games then buffalo does down the stretch, doesnt feel impossible but we have a hard month of march up ahead.

I like DJ Smith as our coach and we can win with him and are winning with him. All of our top 6 forwards are thriving with DJ as the coach. Almost all of them will put up career high point totals by the end of this season. Brady and Timmy really are thriving with DJ as the coach. DeBrincat has had to adjust this season moving to Ottawa next year he will score his 35 to 40 goals. He will probably have 30 goals by the end of the season. Sanderson has made great growth in his rookie year as well.
We have the 11th best record in the NHL since December. Things are going in the right direction.

I just used the NHL.com website. According to that website, Islanders have 70 points, while Pittsburgh has 69. Pittsburgh does have the better points percentage as you pointed out, so that's definitely worth noting & factoring in to the equation.

No matter, its an interesting situation and race for sure.

I'm probably in the minority here but meaningful for me associated being in control of our own destiny as oppose to needing other teams to lose. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the heck out of this little surge we've gotten, but there is a significant jump we have to overcome.

Goal for me after giving up futures for Cat, Talbot, etc... is playoffs at the minimum but if we miss out by a point or two, this group might get some hunger for what its like when they were so close. Seasons not done yet though, so its not they "were close", they are close and hopefully go on an even bigger heater
