Even though they are professionals the players are still nervous and a little tight to start the playoffs. Nash probably just getting into the swing of things throwing the puck at the net and getting his legs under him. It might sound stupid but some of these players just need some touches and maybe a full period to lose the nerves. Second period will tell.

100%.

The entire build up, and the amount of adrenaline leads to a shaky start like that. Both teams will be more settled in the second period.

I can't even understand how, the shot hit St. Louis and deflected 3 feet in a fraction of a second. Why do you continue to think that is a bad goal?

It absolutely baffles me reading posts like this. I literally lose faith in humanity wondering how certain people can actually have opinions like this when the replay cleared showed how the shot changed direction.

The replay showed it, they announcers mentioned it, and the beat writers reported it. What else do you need?

Haven't you figured out that I don't ****ing care that it was deflected, I care that he let in the first shot against him in the PLAYOFFS.

Why do you act like goalies can't make saves on deflections?

If Hank doesn't have a shutout, he's terrible according to some people. Didn't you get the memo? Teh percentages! He's .833, bench him!

Same. I thought they all looked good outside of Hank.

I'll give Hank a bad period. He needs to pick it up, though. Settle in.

I must just have higher expectations for Nash because I thought he was very meh. This guy used to be one of the most electrifying talented wingers in the NHL. I haven't seen much of that in NY yet. I expect him to beat guys 1 on 1 and make great plays, he is paid like a superstar time to produce in crunch time like one.

I think the issue is that Hags has unbelievably poor think speed. He constantly freezes when he has the puck and often times seems confused as to what to do with it.

I think he is a guy who would be great on a quick defensive forechecking line. But, his offensive IQ is just horrendous.

Well, I would consider that line the 3rd line. I think it's a fine place for him. He'd be wasted on a completely defensive line. He's going to be a 30-40 point scorer most of his career I'd assume.

Except one of them is coming back from an injury

Yeah, those five games was a big break...

It's okay to say he looked bad, instead of come up with excuses.

He was cleared to play against MTL, but they sat him. Technically, he could have only missed four games.

McDonagh was poor in the first period. If Joe is talking about how shaky he looked, when he is the ultimate McDonagh homer, you know he had a bad period.

Nash just isn't a guy you can rely on in the postseason. Doesn't have the heart.

He is a complementary player ala Marian Hossa. He can't be "the guy."

However, for his price tag we need more than a complementary player in the playoffs.

He always seems so tentative.

You would have to be a cyborg to react to a shot at that velocity changing direction THAT quick.

You need a lesson in basic physics, and human reaction time.

Because of this, I highly recommend this book. 'The Physics of Hockey'

Yeah. Everyone knows he had a bad period. That doesn't change the fact that he was injured

Oh, in fairness to Nash (who is getting crucified right now) he was no worse than Stepan or St. Louis. In fact, St. Louis contributed nothing offensively, and tipped in our goal against.

St. Louis getting by pretty unscathed right now.

Yeah. That ****face.

Well, to be fair, Nash was at band camp.

Right, saying he missed five games is the reason for the rust is an excuse though. You're acting like he just came back from a Stamkos injury where he missed half the season.

And if it was going to be an issue, it might have been a decent idea to give him limited minutes against MTL just to get him back into the game. Personally, I don't think it has to do with his injury or the five games he missed. He just looked bad.

Along with Nash, Stepan, St. Louis and a couple others.

All Top and Bottom corners, including the 5 hole, look like bullseye's around Emery....Bwhahahahahaha

Oh I wasn't trying to crucify him. He didn't play badly. He is what he is.
