I don't understand the coaching that encourages collapsing into your own end, even at even strength. What happened to ending a game by forechecking.
Oilers had empty net for 3+ minutes because we defend like like we are 2 men short, and then don't do it well and cannot get a change...doesn't inspire confidence

It can’t be stressed enough how important our physical play was, especially in the first two periods. From McCabe’s game leading 7 hits to Edmundson making life difficult for players in front of the net, this defence played their best physical game of the season. I love Keefe’s comment on McCabe “arrives to the puck in a bad mood”. We need more players who think this way.

I originally tuned in expecting a figure skating match and then was pleasantly surprised when a real hockey game broke out. :wg:

After a rough stretch Liljegren has 1G 5A and a +8 over the last 5 games.

Would like to see him get some more PK time too over the next little bit to keep building the confidence.
He has really turned it around and Keefe’s vote of confidence does seem to have boosted his play. Great to see, just has to keep it up, it’s his valleys that kill him.

It amazes me just how salty Edmonton fans are when they lose to Toronto. Any other loss, they shrug off, but against Toronto they go full stupid.

#rentfree.

With Timmins is about making the right play. He probably got the most offensive instincts beside Reilly on the team. But sometime, he overplays or just want to stay in the lineup too much and pushed played too much instead of making the safe and boring play.
Kind of interesting that Lilly wants to stay in the lineup by making plays which are way too safe.
If these two can add up together and divide into 2, we will have two very solid RHD.
I’d say that reluctance from Lili has been conditioned into him as a Leaf.
Timmins is an interesting guy, his (and Lili’s) injury history make it smart to keep an extra.
Good win, I liked taking it to the best players, getting everyone off their game.

Agreed 100%. This is a bad trend/philosophy they have acquired and one can only assume it's coaching. Not only are they leaving egregious lanes to the net from the wings and center ice they are also leaving too much space at the points. Oilers were allowed to set up all game and the Dmen were delivering bombs. Those bombs could easily have gone in or deflected off legs. We will get wrecked against the better teams if this isn't addressed. The streak of being the worst team to score in an empty net continues.
We'll take the win but this backing up right into the goalies throat will not end well if continued.

Years ago, Keefe knew what we needed on D. Of course he did. However, the previous GM, to the end of his time here, constructed it according to his own bizarre quick waterbug theory. But finally, we're getting closer.

Maybe the stats on Edmonton is that they get most of their goals down low and a small percentage from the point? So they picked their poison and chose to let the point shots happen but took away everything down low?

I don’t know what happens in the playoffs, but this is the most likeable team we’ve had in this era. Seem to have more character, they stick up for each other, we take no shit from anyone and we are simply harder to play against. Lots of great stories this year, our depth is making this more than a “top four” metric. Is it the best team? Who knows, but it’s the most enjoyable for me.

So now Keefe is an idiot for making players earn their way into and up the lineup? Awesome! LMAO
I know eh!

The obsession goes beyond the pale for some of these folks. I'm sure deep down inside some of them think that Marner is just a malingerer faking his ankle sprain just so he can stick it to the team and the fans by extension!

could have easily lost that lol
Thank dog Matthews decided to dress for the final 3 minutes and save the team.

samsonov hopefully is fine, he was solid

JT + Nylander were very good. Liked their dzone play and their offence against mcdavid

Matthews with his best game against another star player. It was passable, nice play on the holmberg first goal + sealed the empty netter
Agreed that both JT and Will had solid games at both ends of the ice.

Inre the comment about Matthews, I'm a bit confused it was tongue in cheek wasn't it?
That 3rd period was so disgusting I can't even enjoy this win.

This is 100% on Keefe. You can't tell me any different.
OK I won't try, but why pray tell is that 3rd on Keefe, I'd be willing to put my deed down that at no time did he tell them to quit skating, throw soft passes around, mishandle pucks, let their checks go and hanging Sammy out to dry in the process!

No marner, no Jarnkrok, no Bertuzzi, no Lybushkin, no Brodie

Amazing win. Minus the 3rd. Who cares. Dummied them 5 on 5

SAMMY please be f***ing good.
With the way TJ has been playing for most of this year, his subtraction from the line-up is more of an addition.

While I wouldn't call the win "amazing" I would call it "well deserved" despite the stumble in the third. The Leafs subs all stepped up and met the challenge of playing higher in the line-up with hard work, good positioning and wanting it more.

My three🌟

McMann
Samsonov
Edmondson

It's not just Edmonton, they do it with everyone.

Dubas negotiating himself out of a job is the best thing to happen to this team since winning the Matthews lottery

Maybe it's a league wide phenomenon that statistically speaking if you collapse down low, you are less likely to be scored on?
Do you want Colorado, Boston Rangers, Carolina and Florida to come barreling down on you while you collapse down ? I think the better teams and well coached teams will pick us apart.
