Accuses us of not watching prospects because we don't post play-by-plays of every game we watch. --> "I didn't follow last year's draft"

k.

Good job ignoring everything I wrote.

There is no way someone who doesn't watch Hartford, which is full of our prospects including 2 recent first rounders, because it costs money, and someone who didn't watch (for free) SKA when it had our top 2 prospects (Shesterkin and Butcher), will pay good money to watch a random Juniors games that either has a single of our lower prospects or a random prospect from another team. No, I don't believe that in November you paid money to watch Howden over watching Chytil, Lias, etc.

And this is why you know nothing about what happens on the ice except stats and general scouting reports. You dont need to do a full PbP. But say something that happened on ice. Sometimes people have good games, sometimes bad. Sometimes no points, but hit 3 goal posts. Sometimes had teeth knocked out.

Read the NYR GDT. It discusses plays, not general scouting reports. Not so with Canadian Juniors or NCAA, unless the game is on TV. Why? Because like I said, it makes ZERO sense for you to pay money to watch a Tampa prospect when you wouldn't pay same/less to watch Lias, Chytil, etc.

So now you’re trying to tell me what I do and don’t watch? Amazing. Yeah you’re right, I’ve never watched Howden because he was a Tampa prospect. Totally never saw any of him last year when I was watching Josh Brook or this year for Jett Woo. It’s not like there’s places to find these things on the internet for free. Never saw Howden or Hajek at the WJC either. How silly of me for me just writing nonsense about these guys and posting on a forum dedicated to hockey prospects. I just pull all of my posts out of my ass.

They will win the Cup in 2018. Then Kucherov and Hedman will sustain long-term injuries. They miss the playoffs in 2019. Their pick wins the lottery. They just traded us the 2019 1st overall pick. Better luck next time, pal.

Stop being a clown...

Yes, you watch the WJC and Traverse. That's it. That's why in those games you discuss actual plays, the rest of the time you discuss publicly available scouting report ("good skater with a hard shot") instead of plays ("dumb penalty, blown coverage").

Quite the take, and again amazing that you’re trying to tell me what I do and don’t watch. It’s really some remarkable arrogance.

And just so we’re clear, you’re basing this on me not posting a PbP breakdown of these guys in the games I watch rather than my own personal opinion after watching them for a cluster of games? Brilliant, it’s like I’m writing my own f***ing scouting report on a forum dedicated to hockey prospects. What a concept. Sue me for not posting a stream of PbP from each individual game like it’s a f***ing GDT.

Like I said, there's nothing to suggest this to be true.

1. There's no new info, just regurgitated public scouting reports. Compare how you discuss Rangers games or WJC after you watch it vs how random Juniors prospects are discussed.

2. When people watch for themselves, their opinions diverge. Look how people argue over Miller. Sometimes there's more disagreement, sometimes less, but even people who generally agree don't have identical views. But when everyone read the same scouting report, everyone has the same opinion.

3. You still have not explained why you woukd watch a random Anaheim, Tampa or Nashville prospect over teams like Hartford and SKA with multiple of our top prospects.

4. Your defense reminds me of people using political correctness to suppress discussion: "how dare you question my narrative, I am outraged, you're a bad person if you doubt my claims." Expressing outrage is not the same as proving a point. You not directly address anything I ask, just throw out words like "arrogant."

Are people really arguing about who watches what games? Wow.

One thing I thought about, that may give some perspective, is there really is no trade that would feel satisfactory other than a complete and total rip-off. That’s because we traded away two major contributors to the past 5-7 years of relative success for this franchise and acquired players we know little about, as far as what impact they will have at the NHL level. It stings. As much as this organizations needs a reboot, it stings to know that it’s over, and they didn’t get it done.

That being said, we have some solid contributors still here. Kreider, Zibanejad, Hayes, Fast, Zuccarello, Spooner, Namestnikov, Buchnevich. They’re all above average NHL players. Vesey is an average player. We have pieces up front.

On defense, we have Skjei, Shattenkirk, and Staal. Above average NHL players. Smith should be, but I won’t count him right now because he’s currently being punished. But add him in and you have 4 average to above average NHL players.

In the pipeline, you have:

Andersson
Chytil
Howden
Ronning
Nieves

All who project to possibly contribute at the NHL level, in varying degrees. I won’t include other prospects, but we could also have some late bloomers.

On defense, you have:

Hajek
Pionk
DeAngelo
Lindgren
Rykov
Day (who I still think is a dark horse)
Gilmour

All who can possibly contribute at the NHL level in varying degrees. Add Sproul in there too.

Let’s say, hypothetically, the Rangers decide Zuccarello is the captain and sign him 3x5. Spooner and Namestnikov are signed to 4 year deals between 3-4 million. Skjei 5x4.5. Hayes 4x4.5. We have cap space. We also have a plethora of assets at reasonable rates to move in the next 1-3 years, if a guy like Andersson or Howden or Chytil proves they are ready for prime time. That will create more cap space.

It’s obvious the Rangers are trying to acquire talented Russian players in an attempt to lure KHL Free Agents and prospects to the NHL. It’s a savvy decision. It’s New York City and plenty of your brethren are here. Come join them. As much as I like Miller, and he was one of my favorite players, Namestnikov is very, very talented. He brings a different kind of game. He has ties to NA and Russia. We acquired Rykov. We have Buchnevich and Georgiev already and Shesty in SKA.

Kovalchuk wants to play here. See if he’ll sign a 2 year contract. What if we get the #2 pick and draft Svechnikov?

Kovalchuk-Namestnikov-Svechnikov
Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Spooner-Hayes-Zuccarello
Vesey-Nieves-Fast

Chytil, Andersson, and Howden start in Hartford. Maybe we trade Zibanejad for more futures and let one of those prospects center the 3rd line. More cap space.

The following year, Rykov and Shestyorkin come over.

On defense, possibly:

Skjei-Shattenkirk
Staal-DeAngelo
Smith-Pionk

Potential disaster there. But maybe we buy out Smith and play Gilmour, or sign a UFA. Hank and Georgiev/Mazanec. That’s a really solid lineup. Maybe we luck into Dahlin and don’t get Svechnikov. We’d be fine up front.

And Hajek/Rykov playing in Hartford soon. Available in case of injuries. The more I look at this team going forward, I can see hope. Some things need to break right. But one thing is for sure. That group didn’t get it done. I enjoyed the run. But they didn’t get it done. I’d hate to see them get it done elsewhere. But we had to cut the cord. This is a first class organization with a plan. Developing an identity. I’m ready to embrace this rebuild and trust Gorton.

But he must fire AV.

@Beacon said in one of the first responses that I’ve seen Howden extra because I watched Moose Jaw games to check out Josh Brook and Jett Woo. I’m done with this stupid conversation.

Ill say this again howden is the better prospect than raddysh who’s play has dipped this year where howden’s has steadily improved. I think the Rangers believe they took the best D and best forward prospects Tampa had. (Outside of sergachev and point who are full roster players.)

The irony is that I'm pretty much the ONLY person here who watches prospects, with the exception of the poster Pavel Buchnevich who seems to watch the KHL (a few who used to watch Hartford stopped). Don't believe me? Link to one post where someone discusses actual things prospects did in games such as hit the goal post or blow defensive coverage? There's none. All "discussions" of prospects are scouting reports combined with stats: "Has a hard shot, bad skater, but really improved his offense this year."

This after you've admitted to not doing that? Rofl. Yeah, I don't think anyone believes that.

Do you see anyone discuss games they watch (NHL, WJC) this way? Do you see someone after a game declare, "Kreider is a fast skater with size and a good shot"? Or do they discuss how he first took a dumb penalty, but then screened the goalie for a goal on which he got no points, but was crucial in making it happen? Not one person here beside me knows where to buy Junior games... and if you won't buy Hartford games that are loaded with our prospects; you didn't watch SKA for free when it had our 2 top prospects (Butcher and Shesterkin), yet I am supposed to believe you pay money to watch Gettinger or Barron alone? Who are you kidding? And if you watch these prospects, how come your opinion of them never diverges from the consensus, the way it diverges for NHL players whom we know you watch?

Comical, because I spent over $150 this year on having WHL and OHL games available to me. Although I barely watch any Q. I haven't gotten my money's worth this year (depending on how you view your price per game, anyway), but the idea that people on here don't know where to watch junior games is utterly laughable. You sound like ol' Sharkie who claimed he was having tapes sent to him weekly. This is before your time, but your "boasts" are extremely similar.

Re: my opinion somehow not diverging from the norm - My opinion on prospects has diverged plenty of times. I get that you barely did any research on this before you posted, but perhaps you should search my post history a touch. If you had any integrity, you'd go back and revise that statement.

The issue with stats is that they are pretty much the only thing discussed: so and so just scored, so and so just went on a hot streak. When I point out that your understanding of what constitutes a lot of points in the Juniors (60-80 points) is wrong and it is actually very low, there's anger, "you only care about stats. I watch games, so I don't care who scores how much," which is an obvious lie considering that you don't even know what website to go to in order to pay to watch the game.

Do you have any idea how readily accessible the CHL is to someone living in America who wants to pay for it? This is so laughable. If you're going to be arrogant, at least be intelligent about it.

@Beacon , you're generalizing (and provoking) for no good reason when you say "I'm the only one who watches prospects".

You have a pretty good coverage of AHL (that you picked up about 2 months ago after a pretty long break) but there are a few posters that have a good handle on Euro leagues. I would not consider myself among them (and I admittedly do not follow prospects until they become affiliated with NYR) but because of my Russian background and access I was able to watch Buch when he played for Cherepovets and SKA, Shesterkin and recently Tkachev. Similarly, there are a few posters who watch CHL and from time to time give pretty good updates.

Yeah, but apparently it doesn't count because you didn't post a lengthy recap

Tbh Beacon’s pbp updates suck anyway. It’s a whole boat load of:

*[player] turns puck over in isolated incident*
Beacon: “[player] sucks. If he keeps turning the puck over like that he’s gonna be riding the bus in the ECHL for the rest of his life”

Or

“[players] PPG is {insert PPG} therefore he’s terrible”

He’s dropped to as close to the bottom of the list of people whose prospect opinions I value, or at least as far as you can be without blatantly not watching prospects.

Yes. Possibly could have gotten more in terms of prospect quality, but apparently Hajek was a MUST for Gorton and then it depends on what Bolts prospects you value more than Howden.

Agreed. I think we did as well as we could have done. I think management wants to draw up their gameplan sooner rather than later, and certainly before the draft. Let's hope that Sather stays away from the draft day microphone though. Send him on a fishing trip somewhere far away!

He basically takes the safe route. Call 90% of prospects a long-shot / bust and you will be right most of the time.
