I can guarantee McDavid is going to be in the selke conversation this year. He can do whatever he feels like doing. Expect +60 and above and ridiculous penalty killing metrics. One if the top faceoff guys and takeaways. Quote me
+60 would be nuts especially if he is in the 140-150 point range again. I just hope that regardless of stats that he is healthy come playoff time.

Im surprised no one is talking about his cryptic interview a couple days ago. Asked about his contract expiry in 3 years "I love playing in Edmonton (lots of compliments)......but its 3 years down the road, we'll see where our lives are at..."

It has raised alot of talk in the hockey world the last 48 hrs. Maybe its nothing, but maybe its a cryptic message too. That Connor is already set on the next 3 years being his final stretch with Edmonton.

If he makes it even more clear next summer he's moving on in 2026, do we consider trading him for a massive return/futures? Or do we keep him anyway because he's Connor McDavid, in his prime?

It's a non-committal answer because it is a business. It means nothing.

All I can say is at least his fiance isn't some starlet hussy.....not naming any names ;)

Seems like media just looking for a clickbait summer article.

McDavid can't even talk with management about an extension for another 2 years. Why is anyone even asking him the question?

It has been discussed in multiple threads. In fact it’s been discussed so much people are bored of it already.

Really? Guess im not nearly active enough to notice. It worries me, but it is 3 years from now

Now im curious on who's the starlet

Because he's the best player in the league. Every single GM outside Edmonton is salivating at the prospect of landing McDavid in 2026 FA.

But to note, same thing happened with Matthews 2 years ago. They asked him a similar question, and he was also non committal. Lots of rumors he's going home to the states....then just recently signs a 4 yr extension. I pray its the same out scenario here

It was a worrisome answer and I wish he’d left it out, but he’s just being honest.

The trade question is a tricky one, I think you keep him until the bitter end but a trade would probably be more pragmatic.

No need for fear mongering. At the moment he is an Edmonton Oiler and has expressed his interest and loyalty to this city and organization.

You live in Canada and you ask this? Because all our media outlets are Toronto Centric and fantasize about Connor playing anywhere else but hick Edmonton while secretly wanting Connor to land in Toronto to support Matthews and Marner, lol

Every spin that regularly occurs in regards to this kind of thing emanates from Toronto influence of the media and their fixations. A decade later and they still can't deal with Connor McDavid being an Oiler all this time.

In fairness Connor probably gives the best and most thoughtful answers of any Numero uno in their sport on the planet. Even if he slips up once in awhile he's been 110% in response to questions about being here. there's been tons of them always.

According to Leaf fans back in the day, he was never supposed to sign that 8 year deal he signed after the entry level contract finished, but here we are. They should just be concerned about trying to keep their own players, rather than fantasizing about grabbing others from other teams. Willy Nylander says hi.

Lucky for us we have Drai extension first so if he extends I think the McDavid extension should be all but guaranteed.

Plus it’s the easiest contract ever to sign. The day he’s eligible to re-sign you sit him down and slide him a blank contract for him to fill out. Let him and his agent decide what a fair contract is and if he wants to play here. If not you just look into a trade

Oddly i think this is a bad set up

Drai himself has said it: when people give him questions about him being better than McDavid he laughs them off. He really loves McDavid.

It makes me wonder if he wants to wait for McDavid to sign first. If so, that means that it would be like last time. Drai would be a free agent for a while, except this time UFA instead of RFA. It kind of makes me wish we had McDavid for 7 years instead of 8. Let both of them sign at the same time while no one can talk to them. Still, I give Chiarelli full marks for those two deals

But who knows? Maybe Drai wouldn't mind rolling the dice and being our 1C maybe

I mean it would be pretty bad asset management to not sign him to an extension the summer before he hits UFA.

Do everything possible to sign him and if he doesn’t then unfortunately you look to trade him

Imo the team would keep Drai even if he didn't want to sign during the summer before his deal was up. If you lose Drai, I think McDavid likely leaves

Historical reference to Janet Jones of course ;)

Dammit... Now you made me go and name names lol
You caused me to reflect on this and remember what a horror it must have been when a conservative family and parents that raised the best hockey player on Earth saw who their son landed on in life? I remember seeing Mrs Gretz cringe about it. Remember seeing the Royal wedding and thinking Janets head is too big for Edmonton.

Gretz was a wizard on ice but sure had some problems with decisions off it. Indeed many of the glory years Oilers sure had their problems off ice.

Some people are game smart, but not as much life smart. The biggest most important decision you ever make is choice of your lifetime spouse. That will define what your life is like.

Never forget Gretz bragging that he bagged a centerfold. Not really something to aspire to imho, You get headache a lot more times than you get..

Well, they're still married and seem happy after 40 years or so, so I don't think he's really regretting his spousal choice all that much.:D And I don't recall him ever bragging he "bagged a centrefold" or anything remotely close to that.

Saying all that, his daughter really is an attention seeking diva.

Well, she got it from mom for sure. Janet got a 208K Rolls Royce, a 40K wedding dress, and a ring that was appraised over 200K at the time. . Thats the equivalent of well over 1M in today dollars just in basic wedding gifts.

Gretz made the comments. Ironically its harder to find them now because of the firestorm about Paulina taking her clothes off all the time. Daughter like mother.

I even had video of comments made by Wayne in 87 but all my VHS tapes no longer played and so I chucked them. ITV rarely kept copies either so those tapes are gone forever.

But no doubt Janet Jones was an attention seeker, unparalleled at the time. Her wedding train barely fit in the biggest Church in the city. Her head never fit in Edmonton.

Metz, the videographer, later stated he knew Gretz was gone the moment after the wedding when the couple left and he asked Wayne when he would be back.

Also the gambling fiasco involving Janet. Been others. Such stories get silenced with money.

Sounds like some people still can't get over the fact he got married and left Edmonton.:D;)

Could care less. it did sting for a year or so. But more the case its just interesting how much the story at the time absolved Wayne and blamed it all on the org. Reality likely that Janet Jones was going to have more aversion to living in Edmonton than Prongers wife. She called the shots too. Janet was out of here soon as he got together with the "hollywood starlet" him landing in LA being much more than coincidental which a lot of people put together at the time while the scribes and Gretzky pointed fingers.
