Barzal the player is a good main piece for a McD trade. The problem is the contract. He is only signed for this and next season @7m. If he is as good as Edmonton would hope, his next contract will be rich and the savings from the McD cap hit too little to justify the downgrade from McD to Barzal.

Hugh is very popular in Vancouver so not sure they will move him. It will leave Canucks a big hole at back and hurt their power play but they will have the best player in the NHL.

I do not see Oilers and Isles as good trading partners as both teams lack goalie depth. Dobson is also an importance piece to the NYI as he is the only D there capable of providing offence on that team. Scoring D is important in the playoff and you cannot go deep without it.

If a goalie is to be involved, Varly, 2022 unprotected 1st, Barzal, Raty, Walhstrom plus Wilde should be enough - Oilers gets six good pieces and Isles get one big one.

I might consider this as Edmonton if you swap Beauvillier with Pelech. I don't think the gap between Barzal and McDavid is nearly as big as the numbers suggest.
