McDavid questions Vancouver switching goalies and playing PP1 in 8-1 game

For context
Demko threw up in his mask due to a flu going around
To be fair, the NHL does need to implement a rule that if a game is out of hand such as 8-1 and a goalie pukes, the goalie should be forced to stay in the game with his own vomit masking his vision. This would give the other team a chance to score and potentially make for an exciting finish.

McDavid is asked about Vancouver keeping the PP1 unit in the last 10 minutes, he didn’t bring it up himself.

I can’t decipher his mumbled comment on it, so I don’t know his exact feelings are, but it was a reporter who 1st suggested that the PP1 unit was unsporting.

I have no idea what McDavid’s garbled point about DeSmith and EBUG was or why he thought that was so bizarre, rather than assuming that either Demko wasn’t a 100% or they wanted to give DeSmith some time at goal.

If I were coaching, I’d be telling my goalies to expect a switch if we entered the 3rd period up more than 5.

A Zamboni driver should be able to hold that lead.
If you’re all but guaranteed the win, it makes sense to save your goaltender from potential injury and let the backup get some reps in.

He didn’t question it. He was asked the question, gave a fairly diplomatic response, and the clip ends in a hard cut.

About 90% of the responses so far are from people who can’t be bothered to watch a 3 minute interview clip before needing to get their cute little comment in and I’m supposed to believe any of you watch the games?

It’s a weird comment to make. In the NFL they put in the back up QB and in the NBA they play the bench players when they have a big lead.
Plus it was pretty common knowledge that the Canucks had the flu.

Elite players like him tend to do this, where they create false narratives to amp themselves and push even harder the next game, a prime example of this would be Micheal Jordon, heck even Kobe Bryant used to do it, I'm just a little surprised he said anything to the media, although I like it since it creates some hostility towards each team, making the games more entertaining. We have been asking for more personality and part of that is showing your annoyed or angry side too, I think he's wrong but again still it will definitely be more fun.

Are you sure you watched the clip?

He was questioned about PP1. No one asked him about switching goalies. He brings up unprovoked that it's 'interesting' that Vancouver switched goalies and he's never seen it before, says DeSmith's not an EBUG who needed to be brought in. Then he goes on to say the PP1 is not ideal and literally ends the clip saying "obviously we don't like that"

If a player or a team doesn't like something like that, they shouldn't place themselves in those situations where it could happen. Simple as.

Interviewer = Do you like dogs?
McDavid = I like dogs, but also cats are stupid. Again, I like dogs but their barks are annoying
You = McDavid only talked about liking dogs
