McDavid elbow's M. Johansson

if that wasn't a penalty, or the Hartman hit on Bouchard hit wasn't a penalty....then McDavid's "elbow" shouldn't be a penalty
Huh? If refs miss a penalty call then any other infraction in the game should also not be a penalty?

1 - Hartman on Draisaitl should have been called a tripping penalty, ref let it go, figured he was kicking at the puck....that said, I thought they changed the rules years ago where even you attempt to get the puck (with your stick for example) and you get the puck first and still trip a guy...still a penalty. So yes, should have been a penalty......slewfoot? Not a chance. There is almost no similarity between this an a slewfoot other than the foot being involved. Slewfoots are taken seriously for a reason....much more dangerous than this play.

2 - Yes, McDavid should have been penalized for that. The comments that it couldn't have been intentional because he was looking the other way are simply willful ignorance. He could have some of the worse peripheral vision in the world and still be able to see him. That said, I don't know if it was intentional or not, but looked like it to me if I had to choose. He saw the guy coming, he initially tucked his arm a bit as if to squeeze by and then popped his elbow up a bit to get a shot in. Nothing really major there, but sneaking/dirty play. I wouldn't suggest it's anything more than a 2 min penalty though. Unfortunate the player left the game over it.

3 - The comments about McDavid taking more punishment than any other player in the history of the game are also dumb. Firstly dumb because it seems to be an excuse to allow the sneaky little shots. Look, I don't knock McDavid for doing it, players do little stuff like this, don't kill him for it, but call it for what it is. I don't doubt that McDavid takes a ton of punishment, but that's because he's a great player, they all take a ton. The more it seems to impact your game, the more you'll get as well.

Puck's right there, looks like he was doing the same thing Drai was doing since they were both fighting for possession of it. :dunno:

A ref could give him two for tripping, maybe, but that's it.

Slewfoot? C'mon now.
perhaps use your stick? novel concept I know in the game of hockey
but yes Ryan Hartman, a known dirtbag who already tried to injure Bouchard the game prior definitely deserves the benefit of the doubt

But where's the doubt on that play to which he'd get the benefit?

Incidental, unintended, and unfortunate head contact by Johannsen's head to McDavid's Elbow. Refs couldn't catch it, no one knew what happened, so no call was made. Cause it looked in real time like what it was, a nothing play.

What's more egregious is the ref watching this head on and not calling this Leg Sweep / Trip:

McDavid elbowing a guy in the head while moving away from the puck is a nothing play, but a guy kicking at the puck is now a leg sweep. This is next level pathetic homerism.

It's hilarious you're trying to claim it's unfortunate here, while in the Oilers game thread you said:

"McD elbow. Love it. If on purpose or not."
"Leafs homers on the panel will be so jealous that Matthews can't pull off elbows like that"

"Elbow". When you have to Zapruder a video to find the elbow you know it's a joke. Keep whining, Minny fans. Maybe worry more about serial slewfooting piece of shit Hartman instead of trying to find something that isn't there in this video. Nice dive by Johansson, very soccer-esque. Pathetic.

It was an unfortunate outcome, but the people calling it a chicken wing, when his arm moved maybe 1 inch is equally pathetic. It looks like McDavid simply tenses up a bit in anticipation of some contact.

This so-called "elbow" was neither vicious, nor egregious. Could have been a 2 min. minor penalty, sure but the people acting like it should be a suspension are basing their opinion on two things: Their hate for McDavid, and the outcome.

Impossible to say from that video if McDavid is actually aware he's gonna catch the guy's head. He might or might not be, depends how well he sees the guy. Since his elbow isn't particularly high I think in this case intent would be everything, and pretty much impossible to prove.

If that was not only an intentional elbow, but an intentional elbow to the head, that's a master level sneaky dirty play. And really dirty.

the real issue is Minnesota was soft, you gotta run the guy if he does this to your teammate, doesn't matter if he's a superstar
Oh, Hartman took care of it by slew footing Draisaitl but that's just Hartman doing Hartman things.

He's soft because mcdavid gave him a concussion by elbowing him in the head? I'd love to find out how soft you are
or see what every poster with an Oiler jersey in his Av says when the same thing happens to McDavid one day.

Human beings, man. How the hell can we ever be expected to use perspective when it comes to religion or politics when we can't even get past sports' tribalism... like, support your side, for sure, but.... not to clown levels.

your team employs a dude who did something 10 times worse the previous game

perhaps you're not the best judge of character

Some real idiotic logic here. I root for the wild, so anything a wild player does is a reflection on my judgement or character?

Marty Mcsorley once played for the oilers and later tomahawked a guy in the face with his stick so Oilers fans belong in jail. Am I doing this right?

Ya... I don't see it.
Far from a Mark Messier type of elbow where a guy like Modano's head spun around twice in the air before landing back on his body.
Contact, yes.
Intent to injure, um no.

The slewfoot by Hartman on Draisaitl...far more intent.

The puck is literally touching draisaitls skate. Put down the Kool aid

That elbow must've hurt but like.. is that flop necessary? You didn't just get viscerally slapped across the face by Ronnie Coleman. Also, I just watched the clip again and realized Johansson just stops and and starts skating backwards right into McDavid's elbow.

Minor and potential fine at best. Personally I'd just go with a minor.
He left the game with a reported concussion... and reportedly will be out day to day, calling it a flop is disingenuous. I'm an oilers fan, it should have been a penalty. I don't think he should be suspended though.

Just add it to the compilation:

Cool.

Now do a compilation on the shit he puts up with every single game.

The McDavid haters can dust off their pearls to clutch for the next 48hrs. It’s fine.

Minor elbow and apparently Johansson has a glass jaw.

Give 97 a night off to rest if you want to give him a game.

Well worry not, we already know he won't be.

that it was a slewfoot

It really wasn't though.

A slewfoot takes out a players legs from behind, causing them to fall on their back or head. Dangerous stuff. But that's not what Hartman did, at all.

fine...argue semantics all you want, he literally kicked at his legs and tripped him, it's a dangerous play no wonder what you call it

In super slow motion it looks like McDavid flares his elbow a bit, but this was hardly a chicken wing.

I'm honestly surprised Johansson got hurt because it looks like it maybe glances his chin?

This is a fine at best. And NHL refs are generally terrible but I understand missing this at game speed. I would've probably called Johansson for embellishment until I saw the super slo-mo.

Hartman's skate kicking Drai's skate, causing Drai to fall forward, when both players are pretty much at a standstill, is "dangerous"?

Alright, maybe we've got different definitions of that word too.
