Incidental, unintended, and unfortunate head contact by Johannsen's head to McDavid's Elbow. Refs couldn't catch it, no one knew what happened, so no call was made. Cause it looked in real time like what it was, a nothing play.

What's more egregious is the ref watching this head on and not calling this Leg Sweep / Trip:

I don't see this as dirty. It's a kick at the puck that made Draisaitl fall forward. Not even close to what's in the OP

Most uncoordinated and inaccurate kick for the puck I've ever seen.

If anything, we should be laughing at the Sportsnet crew in that video saying the front of a skate hitting the front of another skate is a slewfoot.

It definitely does not fit the official definition of the a slewfoot, by NHL rules. That's kicking out the legs, while simultaneously pulling the upper body back. But at the very least its a leg sweep type trip.

A trip in a board battle isn’t even comparable to someone elbowing a guy with concussion problems.

This is more a commentary on the Reffing. Before anyone gets the false idea that Oilers get away with stuff. Literally no one knew what happened to Johannssen when that play happened in real time, the refs didn't see the nudge. But the refs squarely saw this trip, and no call.

So that's legal now, according to refs:

Should be a suspension, but it's McDavid so likely nothing is gonna happen imo. Don't get me wrong, I love watching McDavid, he is an awesome player. But that was just a dirty play and it was on purpose too.

Flame away.

Explain how was it on purpose when McDavid was looking the other way?. He didn’t see Johansson. Yeah the guy without a history of dirty hits totally tried to pull a fast one.

Think of every elbow you've seen in your life. Bure on Churla. Messier on Everyone. Ultimate Fighting Championship. Pride Fighting Championship. K1 Kickboxing. Muay Thai GP.

Have you even seen an elbow thrown with 4cms of arm movement? Cmon! A NUDGE at best.
Yes, fair. It wasn’t that bad of an elbow. But if that elbow was on McDavid, you guys would be screaming from the roof tops about a suspension

Also, don’t be so obtuse. Elbows are allowed in MMA and they aren’t allowed in hockey

You'd be surprised how much shit that happens to McDavid we don't even say a peep about on the mains. Or complain about.

Last game for example, a play I've never seen in the NHL, a single leg MMA takedown on McDavid. Dude double hand grabs McDavid's single leg, lifts it sky high to send him tumbling to the ice. And no I'm not talking about the Slew foot that also happened to him that game.

Or how bout in the SCFs, Tkachuck headlocks McDavid and throws not one not two but FIVE underhand punches to his face.

There is simply not enough time to talk about all the shit that happens to McDavid that the League turns a blind eye to.

Meh... Little bow shot for sure. Idk if anything other than a game will happen. It's obvious but not exactly "vicious".

Personally, If I'm coaching Minny, I just wait till our last game before playoffs and tell Johansson just go make him answer the bell and move on. (They're the same size). Wild are tough enough elsewhere they should be able to handle it. Oilers/McDavid aren't so fragile they can't handle a situation. It's hockey.

Also, won't be surprised if no one cares and moves on outside of a small suspension, it'd be more serious if there was blood, or a broken nose involved.

When the entire league was taking runs at McDavid you whiners were all telling him to man up and play through it like Crosby.

As the team given the least amount of powerplays for several years, this is what it looks like.

Believe me, Oiler fans would love nothing more than to have every infraction called. But McDavid is like in the 130th in the league for penalties drawn when everyone knows he should be top-5.

This is how he plays when the refs swallow their whistles. Suck it up buttercup. If the refs continue to call nothing we'll take more and more liberties.

Several players on that team who do stuff like this on occaision, yet somehow they escape the “dirty” team rep others get.

Short elbows do almost as much damage as those highlight reel diving spinning back elbows, particularly when they are unexpected. Don't forget that both hockey players skate at high speeds.

Just because McDavid takes a lot of punishment doesn't make him elbowing another player acceptable or excusable. Particularly Mojo, a very clean player with little physicality and long concussion history.

I know my hockey. I can fully admit Drai, Nurse, and Kane have done questionable things. But this isn't about whether the Oilers make dirty plays or not, we take and we give.

This is about the unprecedented amount of abuse McDavid takes and the laughable and statistically verifiable low amount of calls he gets. And in my 30+ years of watching this game I have NEVER seen anything like it, on any player.
