With a serious high ankle sprain, Eichel could missing 60%+ this year. It will be tough to gauge and extension as a result.

And why is this topic on this board? Shouldn't it be on the hockey talk board?

You Oilers fans all live in fantasy world.
McDavid will leave the Oilers just like Gretzky and Messier did.

He will get an offer sheet that the Greasers won't be able to match. Watch the Rangers or Leafs make him a ridiculous offer sheet in 2 summers. Big city / Big market. Deny it all you want but you know it's going to happen.

Fine Oilers match that. Deny all you want you know it's going to happen.

I'm pretty confident the Oilers will extend McDavid. It's cute that you think otherwise

You talk about living in a fantasy world then say McDavid is going to be offer-sheeted? Especially knowing little Johnny just signed a 6-year deal after which he will bolt to the eastern conference at his first opportunity. No one will blame him, seeing what a trash heap the Flames are right now. Your comment is hilarious because signing a generational talent like McDavid is something Shelbyville will NEVER have to worry about. Saying he'll be lured by an offer sheet (he'll be signed making him ineligible) is wishful thinking at best.

one thing for sure is that we will be giving McDavid 8 years. We won't shave off years to save on the cap hit. I would hope Chia has this thinking anyway.

I could see the Oilers giving him like a 3-4 year deal, where he's still an RFA and then going 8 full years with him so they can have him for 11-12 years effectively.

The whole "go to New York or LA" thing has kinda run its course IMO.

CANADA is the BIG hockey market. In Canada you get endorsements with Adidas, Rogers, Tim Horton's, Canadian Tire, etc. If you are a McDavid or Matthews that can add up to like $2-$3 million per year in additional salary.

NHL had it's day in trying to be the "next NBA" in the US in the 90s .... it didn't work. Americans just don't give two craps about hockey players, female tennis players like the Williams sisters and Sharapova are more well known than any hockey player.

Even Crosby in the US, the Gatorade "montage" commercials don't have Crosby in them, lol. Only when they run in Canada (and maybe the Pittsburgh area, I'm guessing) do they splice in clips with Sid. Same thing with Stamkos, pretty sure those Powerade commercials with him basically are just for the Canadian market mainly.

I'm thinking 10m x 8 for McJesus (good chance it becomes 9.7 as others mentioned).

Eichel may settle on a bridge deal cuz of injury.

McD will be offer sheeted, will pick the team he wants to play for and there's nothing the Oilers can do about it.

With all the losing and FO the Oilers will be in cap he'll shortly while at this moment, that isn't even a playoff team.

Max sheet and the Oilers blow up what little they have to keep McD, or, keep a decent team and take more picks.

I see McD as the type of person who will just tell the Oilers to let him leave and follow his dream of being a champion and enjoy the time they had him.

wow.

im not sure if people here realize this but mcdavid will never make it to the point where another can offer sheet him. he will be signed to an extension long before he reaches his RFA status. but some people are so delusional that they actually believe the oilers will wait until his 3 year ELC is up before signing him.

wishful thinking I guess from some very, very bitter fans.

I don't disagree and wouldn't hold it against him to ask for over 10, he just strikes me as a guy that values winning over anything, so wouldn't totally shock me to see him take a cap friendlier deal.

I look at it from the pov that you pay your star and best players. And if guya like lucic want to come play with him, they are the ones who end up taking less.

So, Connor gets his $100 millon or whatever over 8 years and then when the likes of lucic want to join him, instead if asking dor $6 million, he takes $5.25 or something. And same with another Player or 2.

At the end of the day, it simply comes down tk what Connor wants. Unlike toews/Kane and crosby/Malkin, is there really another superstar n the roster? Are draistl and puljarvrvi getting more than MacKinnon, Forsberg, Monahan on their second contracts?
