Speculation: Mcdavid and Eichel Contracts

Just as Ekblad did this year, Mcdavid and Eichel can sign extensions as soon as July 1st, 2017.

What do you see each of them getting.

I'd predict 8.5 x 8 for Mcdavid, and 7 x 8 for Eichel.

It seems very high, but those two are special players.

I predict the answer will depend on their performance this season.

I think McDavid will get a bit more per season

I feel like McDavid is that "good guy" and will sign a long term deal similar to the percentage of the cap Hall, Eberle, and Nuge signed a few years ago

Seems fair for Eichel and low for McDavid. I can't see McDavid signing for anything less than 10 if not more.

I believe Crosby and Malkin got about 8.5 after their ELC, so definitely no higher than that I would say.

8 years, 8 million for Connor. If we're lucky.

Eichel is more unclear. He has huge potential and had a good rookie year, but unless he puts up 80 points this year will have a very different deal than McDavid's in terms of hit. Not necessarily length, he's the type of guy, like Ekblad and McDavid, who will get an 8 year deal if he wants it.

Unless they truly become top 5/10 players this season, then the typical RFA prices still apply. That will push their cap hits down.

Give them 7-8 mill for like 4 years and when he hits full stride in his prime then give him whatever he wants, 10+ mill

If McDavid is half the player Edmonton thinks he is, he is going to want more than 8.5.

8.7 adjusted for inflation seems about right.

It should be higher than that. Crosby and Malkin signed these extensions 10 years ago (from when McDavid's 4th year begins). They signed the extension when the cap was $50 million. The cap is now $73 million.

I have a feeling McDavid will be getting a similar slice of the pie, which means a higher AAV.

why? Oilers obviously match.

Unless you want to force the oilers into giving him max money.

That's exactly what I want to happen. And for the contract to go right up to his first UFA year. Why not make it painful for Edmonton to retain the best player in the NHL?

Because seeing the best player in the NHL on a competitive team might be fun :dunno:

I could see McDavid doing the 9.7M for his entire career sort of deal like Crosby did with 8.7M for his entire career.

He's good enough that he'll be given basically a blank check. My guess is he'll leave some money on the table because he wants to win.
