Sure, they could suspend McDavid, but I have no problem with him standing up for himself in a disproportionate manner so next time someone wants to give him the rough treatment they’ll think again lest McDavid snap on them. A lot of old school superstars talked about this dynamic in the “old days”. You have to let people know there’s a price to pay for engaging with you.
He’s a repeat offender, any “snapping” is a net negative for his team. The “old ways” his teammate would stand up for him.

Looks to me like Garland is holding onto McDavid's left arm?
yes, he is

but he didnt fail at a sacrifice judo throw to end up in that position. McDavid took him down, and Garland hung onto him, much as guys do to a stick when they are being hooked. Making it obvious to the ref, and in this case ALSO keeping McDavid from joining the play, which is exactly what !cDavid was doing to Garland originally. Two guys competing, breaking the rules in an effort to win. Then Garland continued the wrestling match and Connie had a fit.

As the world turns. It's the NHL, opposing players will harass and provoke superstars, occasionally superstar loses control and does something like this. Normal stuff. Whether McDavid gets a game or two for this, I mean really it probably doesn't matter in the end. How is there 30 pages on this?
Cuz EDM fans cant ever admit McDavid being in the wrong!

Will they though? Refs love calling retaliation more than the original issues. If players know they can gloat him into retaliation penalties they are going to keep at it. Taking him off the ice for 2min or more is lopsided for the other team every time.

Garland was able to take it without issue. McDiver just showed the hockey world that they have nothing to fear from this gutless flopper.

To be clear, it’s not important to me whether McDavid escape punishment or if he hurts the other guy.

What’s important is he’s a prick to play against and that buys him an extra foot here and there to operate in because the next guy checking him doesn’t want to get speared, elbowed, cross checked or otherwise visited with some kind of pain. I like that for McDavid, I think it’s the correct way for superstars to keep people honest around them.

The problem is that Garland didn't seem to be in much pain; this shows the rest of the league that he's selfish enough to take a stupid penalty and his retaliation is unlikely to cause any kind of physical discomfort.

If you’re the “other guy” you absolutely take the spear, elbow, cross check from McDavid. He’s building a lengthy rap sheet. He’s going to snap and miss some lengthy time. That’s a positive for your team any day of the week.

All McDavid has done is give the league an upper hand on him, he’s shown he’s immature and can’t control his emotions. Play him hard enough and you’ll come out on top.

1 game - thats only because everyone will cry if he gets off (aside from the great Oiler fans).

Shot to the head, no real crosscheck, but the stick was in his hands. No injury, love tap from the leagues best. Mcdaddy ain't messing around this year.

Every other team is thinking the opposite. Pester McDavid enough and he'll get off his game and do something stupid.

It's automatic that when you deliver cheapshots like McDavid and Myers did, you have to answer the bell the next time you play. Myers will, but I bet McDavid will run and hide instead of being a man about it. Even if Garland himself challenged him, McDavid would tuck tale and skate to his bench.
literally gave him his best shot with a weapon, and Garland ate it like candy.

Id be worried about my chances with my fists after that, too.

How is Garland wrestling him being used to justify anything when McDavid pins him to the ice and seems to punch him the back of the head while he's down right before that?

You’re not actually as obtuse as this post implies you are.

Garland was holding and wrapped around McDavid so that McDavid couldn’t get up off the ice and back into the play. McDavid started swatting at him in an effort to break out of the grip he was in.
