Nah it's just whining.

Garland didn't assault him.

McDavid initiated the whole thing and thought he'd get away with it because of who he is. Connor could have been called for roughing or interference just as easily.
Watch the play again, obviously you missed something. I'll be a nice guy and lay it out for you. Watch the video and tell me where I'm wrong. The entire sequence started when McDavid had the puck.
  • Garland knocks it away, McDavid then checks Garland. Its a totally legal check, both players were playing the puck. To the people calling this a "pick", it is not. It is actually a pretty smart move by McD because he realizes he is able to check him and take him out of the play
  • Garlund is knocked to the ice. He realizes he can't lose his man so he essentially does an arm lock and drags McDavid down.
  • At this point that it is technically a penalty. You can't hold the guys arm going down. I understand not calling it however it is hard to see.
  • Garland continues to hold his arm for a couple seconds. McD is trying to get up. He gets frustrated once and gives him a glove to the back of the head. Ref continues to watch
  • Finally Garland lets go McDavid then tries to get back in the play.
  • Garland then GRABS HIM AGAIN and does a bear hug to keep him from getting back in the play.
  • Then the crosscheck happens
It is a pretty plain and simple. Garland doubled down on essentially just holding McDavid for like 5 seconds in a pivotal moment of the game and McDavid snapped. I don't know why people are purposely obtuse about examining these things without understanding the context.

But Parros has let a lot more go in his time as head of player "safety". He's chosen to dish out extra punishment here for some reason. Did the image of a helpless little elf being bullied by big tough Connor really touch him that deeply? Seems like it.
I think it has more to do with numerous other things, like how McDavid (rightly or wrongly) was being criticized for potentially concussing Johanssen. Not to mention the fact that he received a game misconduct in the last minute of the game which is literally an automatic suspension pending further review. Also, the fact that there was a similar crosscheck to another player's head very shortly after. The refs lost control of the game, and McDavid and Myers both lost their composure and committed suspension worthy offences. It's truly weird how obsessed you are with Garland's height and degrading him because of it, instead of the blatant penalty which occurred, but you do you, I guess.

He's clearly talking about Ovechkin, Edmonton's next opponent is Washington
That makes sense. After this horrible violent holding infraction from Garland, I've heard that McDavid is so afraid of Ovechkin that the oilers are planning to try to get some kind of legal order to prevent him from playing.

Obvious penalty. But its a good play by Garland since Pettersson was just held just as long by Bouchard and the ref didnt call it so he knew they weren't going to call the same thing on him. Difference is Pettersson didnt crosscheck Bouchard in the head, but McDavid did so things got out of hand.

The correct move by the officials is you call the obvious hold/interference by Bouchard and then there is no repeat one by Garland right after and no escalation. They decided to give Bouchard a freebie since its a 1 goal game, then had to the other way which is why I hate game management, both should be in the box the moment the ref sees the hold or pin. Bouchard cant mug a guy just because his team is down one late, Garland shouldnt be able to grab McD just because Bouchard got a free one.

If George Parros is afraid of the physicality that Connor McDavid is dishing out, he might want to re-think his career choice. This is him protecting a teeny weeny wittle guy who can't back up his own actions. Cave man see rat get hit hit, defend rat.
drop the gloves, then.

They can tell McDiver that if he wants to be allowed to play in the NHL, he needs to stop disgracing the sport. How can you give him the benefit of the doubt when he's constantly flopping like a circus seal and throwing tantrums when he doesn't get his way?
Please cut the sarcsm

Whatever Pettersson and Bouchard were doing is not really relevant to what happened. I can't event see what your talking about and even if I did I can guarantee you there is no way Bouchard was holding onto Pete do any degree what Garland did.

Also k Garland is not doing anything other than to do hold McD at all costs. He is not running the odds of him getting a penalty because of what two other players did or didn't get away with moments earlier.

Most people think he will get suspended
Doesnt change the fact we love how Connor stick up for himself when the refs won’t do their jobs
Maybe stick up by dropping the gloves, not a suspendable action that could result in serious head injury. The means were not justified— I mean he was just being held. Why would you love a disproportionate response?

It’s 100% relevant, it set the standard. The refs call that penalty and the Canucks are on the PP. instead they chose to let them play out the final minutes

Dropping the gloves would have been an automatic suspension, assuming Garland wouldn't have been a willing combatant off the hop. So, suspension either way.

I don’t blame McDavid personally, not that anyone cares what I think. Sometimes the refs force you to remind the league that you wont eat their shit all the time.

Easy solution in a situation like this is any penalty by the leading team in the last 30 seconds (arbitrary number) extends the length of the game by the length of the penalty. Would prevent teams from going full prison rules in the dying seconds while defending a lead.

Of course the league would actually have to call said penalty

Wait, the refs FORCED McDavid to commit that penalty to get suspended to remind the league that he won't take it anymore?

Message received?

George Parros wasn't on the ice. Connor Garland, who wishes he had Parros' build and plays like he does, was. Now he needs daddy to finish the problem he started.
nope, i dont think thats it at all.

He took McDavid's crosscheck as though it were a purse swung by a 110lb granny.

The reason Parros is involved is because its a highly illegal thing to do. In fact, McDavid had better hope Parros does something otherwise he is going to have to worry about this

Laying the lumber on an opposing player will most certainly teach the refs a lesson they won't soon forget.
It’s not the refs. It’s the rest of the league. If the refs don’t manage the game, you take things into your own hands at some point. Ideally you fight someone, but McDavid went another route.
