In marketing, McDavid and AM are a nothing burger compared to Sid and Mac.
Because I *did* watch the play. I like McDavid, I don't even know who Garland is. You're getting the most unbiased view of this possible from me. McDavid started the whole thing with a reverse hit on Garland and then jumping on him simply out of frustration because Garland knocked the puck off his stick. Garland then mixed it up with him and was obviously holding him down (turnabout it fair play IMO) and McDavid cross checked him in the face out of even more frustration. That's the entire story.
Just sent this post to NHL headquarters. This is bullshit! You can't suspend a guy like McDavid. This will end up costing him the Art Ross this year.
I think McDavid initiating the contact to throw a bit of a pick and as Garland was losing balance, he grabbed McDavid's arm and pulled him down....so it wasn't entirely like McDavid tackled him down and it only being later than Garland started holding him. None of this matters at all though....regardless of sequence of events, there is nothing that will help McDavid explain why he cross-checked a guy in the head.
I'll do the Soucy one even though it was beaten to death back when it happened. Can someone explain how Soucy only got 1 game for cross checking Mcdavid in the face or how Meier only got one game for his?
Legit I want to see a write up defending this.
Yes, agreed. Garland's not innocent in this. He definitely grabbed onto the best player in the world with 20 seconds left but McDavid opened himself up to that by starting the sequence. That's all I'm saying. It really should have been offsetting minors before the x-check happened and I bet Vancouver would have been just fine with that (which is possibly why the refs were hesitant to call it).
You’re right… they missed his high stick to someone’s throatMultiple things can be true in this situation. While McDavid draws a lot of penalties, there's a lot of misses. That leads to frustration and blowing a gasket where he committed an infraction that deserved a suspension.
what did Connor say to throw a tantrum?
Which report?"According to a report, McDavid is considering cutting back on NHL promotional events throughout the year and leading into the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament, with the claim that the NHL need to protect their stars better on the ice."

McDavid was playing the puck, Garland hit him and immediately grabbed McDavids arm and pulled him down and held it under himself for a good six seconds. While trying to get away McDavid looks at the ref beside the net and sees that he’s for some reason not calling a clear holding penalty. McDavid then brakes free by hitting Garland and gets set and tries to read the play when Garland grabs and tackles him again.
Any thing McDavid should have been giving a penalty for prior to the cross check, maybe roughing at worst as he fought to get free pales in comparison to Garland’s BS hold.
Initiated what, he’s not allowed to play the puck and have Garland check him? It was a normal, legal, and actually good play by Garland until he grabbed McDavids arm and pulled him downs and continued to hold on to it. Garland has actually admitted to this.Bullshit. That's not at all how it happened. McDavid initiated it.
You have an... odd... take on this.
If you know these players, what you'd see is:
1) At the 8-9 second mark, McDavid is dropping his shoulder not to "reverse hit" Garland, but to drive past him and protect the puck. "Reverse hit" is a bad take on your side, McDavid drops shoulder to drive through gaps 10 times a night. It was a great, traditionally "power forward" move.
2) Garland makes a great defensive play, knocking the puck off McD's stick, so it's now behind him and McDavid reaches back for it.
3) Garland's poke required him to sacrifice his body, and lunge across McD's path, so I guess that's what you called a "reverse hit"
4) As a result (Garland contact with McD and McD reaching back while still trying to drive forward) they are both going down. McDavid did not "jump" on Garland. At that point he's still 100% motivated to stay up and recover that puck. So that's a 2nd terribly illogical take on your side.
5) At 10 seconds, you can clearly see Garland has McD's arm.
6) At 13 seconds, you can clearly see McD is struggling to get up, because now Garland has wrapped his legs around McD's right leg. Garland doing everything he can to keep McD down and out (100% logical) and McD doing everything he can to get up and win the game (100% logical).
7) At 15 seconds, Garland still has his leg wrapped.
8) At 16 seconds, after Garland has been holding him for SIX FULL SECONDS McDavid hauls off and decks him. Good on him IMO.
9) At 17 seconds he's up, but at 18 seconds, Garland, still on his knees, has wrapped both hands around McDavid. Still not giving up on letting McD go. Obviously way, way, way over the rule line, but he's committed at this point.
10) At 20 seconds, Garland has McDavid hauled down again.
11) At 21-22 seconds, Garland has a headlock on McD.
12) At 23 seconds McD breaks free and cross checks Garland.
That's TWELVE FULL SECONDS of obstruction by Garland. I understand why he does that... it's way outside the rulebook, but he's desperate and holding onto McD is all he can do. Honestly, he's just doing everything the NHL will let him get away with to hold onto his job (this is not how Garland used to play).
Similarly, I can completely understand why McD lost his shit there. Three games is a valid sentence, I'll take it and honestly, I hope he does more of this when guys pull the crap that Garland did. It's a friggen' eyesore and black eye on the NHL. And when McD, or MacK, or Crosby, or whoever lose their crap, at least it highlights how incompetent the reffing is.

Check mean stop opposing player, it’s not necessarily a hit. McDavid was the puck carrier he can hit people that stand in his way.Garland never checked him (assuming you mean body contact). Look at it again. He pokes the puck away and turns to skate away. McDavid initiates all body contact,
Welp, that's the cost ofProbably the part that pisses him off the most:
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, McDavid will forfeit $195,312.51.
Scoring is overrated, all the kids wanna rack up suspensions and PIMs, #MattRempeEffect in full play.Love the new heel McDavid

If you think the best skater in the world couldn't stop himself from running into and falling on another player who was turning away, I'm not the one seeing it wrong.
