He's sending a message to the league to do something about blatant interference and rats.

He's using the means he has available since the league is clearly ignoring the issues.

The issues that make a player throw a hissy fit and crosscheck another player in the face? :help:

Nah, I feel like the league got it right this time around.

Sending what message? That he should be allowed to reverse hit a guy to start a sequence of events because Garland had the audacity to poke the puck away from him, then tackle Garland and when Garland responds in kind and they get in a wrestling match, his message is that he should be allowed to crosscheck him in the face? Is that the message? That star players can do whatever they want?

No from the moment McDavid and Garland come together, Garland Grabs McDavid's arm and holds him there's no denying this other than a severe delusion of bias. Garland himself even admitted to it post game.

I love the idea that 5'8, 165 lbs of Conor Garland was able to pin the best hockey player in the world in place by holding on to his arm. Such a tough guy that McDavid. 🤣

I don't think any Oilers fan can say McDavid didn't deserve a suspension for what he did, but to equalize it with Myers is what I find difficult to accept. One was provoked, and sure McDavid shouldn't have done it hence the suspension, the other was a mindless cross check to the face for no reason. One was heat of the moment retaliation the other was a cheap shot at a fellow pro.

I'd also have brought in the refs and sent them down to the ECHL for a 2 week stint reffing down there as punishment for the inept non call or better still no games for 2 weeks and no pay for it.
I disagree
Myers deserved 2 for the infraction as did McDavid. I think McDavid gets the extra game because of his recently dirtbag behaviour and Myers got the same because the incidents happened on the same game/same sequence. Giving one player a lighter sentence would have had terrible optics.

Yes Garland should have had a penalty - no question. Ref does his job, none of this happens. Just like all those years ago with Kadri and Debrusk in the PO. Ref does his job, Debrusk gets the penalty he deserves, Kadri doesn't lose his mind. Relax Oiler fans, at least this was a relatively meaningless game and McDavid ain't getting traded as an end result.

If this was earlier in the game and there wasn't an obvious disadvantage to stopping play, I am sure the refs would have stopped play but still to call offsetting minors.
I have to imagine, assuming a ref saw what was going on and I'm sure one did, this is the thought process. Not to defend refs, but I really don't think this is a ref just blowing the call. Before the cross-check happened, both guys deserved penalties....holding for Garland and roughing for McDavid for the punch. There was like 20 seconds to go in the game.....does it make sense to make that offsetting call at that point? Oilers have control of the puck in the offensive zone, pressuring to get a tie....you blow the play dead and take off their best player? I'm thinking the ref(s) figured it was minor infractions, no point making a call. The flip side to that, of course, is that you are simply able to take McDavid out of the play with 20 seconds to go to seal the victory with no real consequence.....then the obvious issue with letting it go and then the blow up.

I saw something about McDavid being even more pissed off now and that he's retaliating against the league by limiting his media availability moving forward? Did anyone else see this?

That isn’t what happened at all. How do you get to page 57 and make a comment like this when it’s obvious you didn’t even watch the play?

I actually disagree as what McDavid did was in the heat of the moment, what Meyers did was just chickenshit and he probably should have gotten 1 or 2 games more but in the end it doesn't matter let's just move on shall we?

But I thought the league favoured McDavid? Did the narrative shift again?

What narrative? :biglaugh:

Poor guy's been stuck in Edmonton for ten years, if the league favoured him he'd probably have a Cup by now wouldn't you think?

I mean sure there's been ample evidence over the years of cheap shots dating back to his rookie season, that went unpunished, but we know that's a two way street and he's no doubt dealt with a lot himself. But I see no issue with the league taking a look at what unfolded at the end of that game and deciding Connor had to sit for a few.

Can't go around cross-checking other players in the face.

Can someone explain how Soucy only got 1 game for cross checking Mcdavid in the face or how Meier only got one game for his?

Legit I want to see a write up defending this.

You have too use a little common sense here.

McDavid elbowed a guy in the face last week and then he cross checked another guy in the face this week.

The Oilers as a whole have been involved in more than their share of these types of events recently.

The trend isn't good and the league stepped in to address it.

Multiple things can be true in this situation. While McDavid draws a lot of penalties, there's a lot of misses. That leads to frustration and blowing a gasket where he committed an infraction that deserved a suspension.

Refs are supposed to be there to call things before it gets too heated. They failed to do so. This is on them. Can't fault McDavid for being angry that this hobbit is attached to him when his team is trying to win with 30 seconds left.
you know, I wish it were the case. kinda upset now no one from the Wild two-handed their stick across McDavids face after he elbowed MoJo.

I mean he deliberately elbowed a guy in the back of the head then crosschecks someone in the back of the head. Obviously happy he got a deserved suspension here and hope that this is because they have chosen to start penalizing him.

I don't believe that though, this time their hands were tied because Myers was up for the same suspension and they can't let both go, so he got the same one. If he's the only one being reviewed he doesn't get 3 games, I sincerely believe that. But I also believe that'd be the case for Mackinnon or another superstar. League doesn't give the same punishment to a 4th liner as it does to a superstar, even if the actions are the same. Which is wrong. But it is what it is.

If the next time he does something dirty and reviewable he gets suspended an appropriate amount of games the amount of "whining" will go down for sure.
That elbow on Johansson? was so soft dude id hardly try to use that to paint McJesus as dirty....and it wasn't to the back of the head either - he clipped his nose

Then by your logic give him 2.

Also if you are taking past events into play then they should recognize the situation that he was being held for 15 seconds. It was so bad the whole hockey world has recognized it.

This whole thing just doesn't seem right.

Yes he deserved a suspension, but how is it 3 when other players got 1 for the same thing

Because I *did* watch the play. I like McDavid, I don't even know who Garland is. You're getting the most unbiased view of this possible from me. McDavid started the whole thing with a reverse hit on Garland and then jumping on him simply out of frustration because Garland knocked the puck off his stick. Garland then mixed it up with him and was obviously holding him down (turnabout it fair play IMO) and McDavid cross checked him in the face out of even more frustration. That's the entire story.

Including other rationale provided by others, I'm guessing the league took into account the fact McDavid was getting cross-checked from behind it sent him forward and downward (lowering his head)....suggesting the player was meaning to cross-check him high in the chest.....not an excuse and dangerous play, so should be suspended, but I'm guessing that may have been part of it. But could be for the other reasons provided as well.... + simply deciding to now come down harder on these plays....that's always possible too.
