Last fight McD had was in juniors. Worked the guy over pretty good and broke his hand - out for many games. What good is he if he gets hurt. You have all said it and most Oiler fans know it. Team is not a cup contender without him. We need a Wilson type player (wish Foligno from Chicago was available).
Lol no. He crosscheck the smallest guy in the face. To start the fight. A guy that had never been in fight before. Connor lost the fight, by the way.

McJesus should make it clear to the NHL, behind closed doors, that the best player in their sport isn’t going to take this shit anymore and is going to crosscheck guys in the face if they want to f*** with him without the referee stepping in.

If the league is fine with fans paying $250 a game to watch him eat nachos in the press box, that’s their choice. Good luck growing the game.

It's a physical sport, this isn't the NFL and McDavid isn't Patrick Mahomes.

i think what a lot of people are missing is the fact mcdavid only did this because it was garland, a guy 6 inches shorter and at least 30 pounds lighter than mcdavid. and prior to that it was johansson, with just 140 pm and no fights in 950 games played. johansson has received lady byng votes 6 times in his career and mcdavid has more hits than he does this year.

mcdavid is a calculating guy. not a chance is mcdavid cheap shotting anyone who could turn around and fight him. he's passing on what he perceives to be the abuse he receives to guys he perceives he can get away with going after without consequences.

now the players he is going after are usually considered off limits for cheap shots and protected by teammates if someone does. but not a chance is mcdavid answering the bell if another canuck or wild player challenges him for cheap shotting their teammate, and the whole oilers team would have to intervene if someone tried

so the moral of this story is i don't think dops is going to let mcdavid go around cheap shotting guys with impunity.
Yup. Total coward.

Garland is 4 feet tall. McDavid should have dropped the mitts and pounded him. Five minutes for fighting and it’s done.
Fighting would have been the honourable thing to do.

...McJesus is the FACE of the NHL right now...just cuz you don't like the guy doesn't change facts...
lol no he isn't most people don't have any idea who Connor McDavid is.

...everyone who knows what the NHL is knows who McJesus is...laughable take, bud...laughable...

Yeah, cause breaking his hands on his helmet and being out for the season would be much better. That also doesn’t excuse the cross check by the way. But honestly, one of the leagues best players ranks as one of the lowest for drawing penalties. He plays a lot, has the puck a lot and players get away with a lot against him. He boiled over because the nhl doesn’t do its job. Only league that behaves this way and then everyone’s shocked that he does something about kt.
McDavid broke his hand in a fight in juniors, his only fight I think.
You don't want him fighting, someone else needs to do that for him.

...it's a terrible, terrible take, bud... 🤣

McDavid is absolutely a marketed name and is a big name, but I don't think he has the name recognition you think he does.

He's not comparable to a LeBron, Curry or Mahomes in terms of marketability or crossover appeal. I'd argue that Ovechkin and Crosby are the only guys on that level at the moment and that is largely because they both play in US markets and there is an interesting story with Ovechkin at the moment.

I could be entirely wrong on this and he is a recognizable 'name' player to the average person, but I'm skeptical knowing what I know of the NHL's general marketing.

It was deserved.

McDavid has had it about as easy as any NHL superstar in history, when it comes to tough play and obstruction. The game is as soft as ever and cross-checking a guy in the face for tying you up deserves a message.

Every oiler game I have watched he gets roughed up a lot more than other stars

Some people will know who he is. But it isn't a big deal like others. He also has the personality of a gold fish so.

I'd be willing to bet more random Americans that are not hockey fans know who Ovi is instead of McDavid.

The way garland manhandled and dumped him against his will my money's on Garland in any fair fight
There's a reason McDavid used his stick. He can't fight.
Garland would maul him lol

Anyway, sad to see McDavid suspended for multiple games. I want to verse the Oilers in full form

Honest question: would more Americans know who Matthews is, or McDavid?

As I said earlier I think both suspensions are fair but while we’re all hurling insults around and turning this into a defunct trolling thread I gotta say if Conor Garland were an ice cream flavour, he'd be pralines and dick.

Sounds exactly like I wrote. Garland (a shit disturber for sure) got under McDavid’s skin. Cross checking him to the head was crossing the line. He should have dropped the mitts and fought Garland. Selfish by McDavid. He put his personal, in the moment, satisfaction ahead of the team.

The problem is that Garland would probably refuse to fight. He's not a fighter, he's a shit starter and a diver. And beyond that, McDavid shouldn't take the chance of hurting himself.

McDavid should have just cross checked him to the body - not the head - or slashed him. Even if he spears him its probably not a suspension per prior NHL precedent. The problem is targeting the head which nobody can or should try to defend.
