That is true, but if Latvia fails to win, then Finland get in, and I suspect the IIHF would rather see Finns represented there, just from the marketing standpoint. Time to don my tinfoil hat in expectations of another ref smash-and-grab job.

Then again, it's just as likely that Latvia will be so flat after this disappointment, that the rested Swiss will just roll over them.

IIHF don't give a **** about which of these two teams would be steamrolled by Canada.

They can do anything. It's IIHF. However, I hope they don't.

I hope they do. I mean, if IIHF is working on losing any credibility, they must continue their hard work. They've went full mental with the crapload of amazing calls they've done at this WC.

We've shown quite a chaotic hockey ever since we miraculously won over Finland. We barely won over Kazakhstan. We have to play from the beginning to the end. And then all those penalties we made in the previous games. It is just too much. Don't misunderstand me - I want to see our team in 1/4 finals, but they have deteriorated somehow. We overrespected Russia and didn't show any respect to Belarus at all. After many years, the win streak over BLR has been broken due to our own stupidity.

Lol, you think that Finland does then?

You be the judge. I wouldn't be surprised if the Finns made it. You're just one of those teams that always make it. Hockey Gods favor you. Latvia still have to earn their sympathy.

All latvia needs to do is beat Switzerland. and way Swiss are playing that is very much doable.

I wouldn't be so sure... It's back to back games for us (and the game is at 16:45), so not much time to recover physically and emotionally. And the Switzerland will want revenge for Sochi loss. It will be tough as hell.

About the no goal.. I don't understand why they didn't review it? And they didn't even show replay on the cube in arena. Worst way how to loose. And frigging Kostitsyn skating to celebrate near our bench. Kinda was waiting for Koba Jass in the final draw going mental :D

Yeah, obviously. Seems like they're enjoying the waves of hate from Latvians.

This is disgusting. Well Lukashenko wants a medal so ... I think refs are under pressure

no, they are under pressure from inconsistency in every single match. Poor management, nothing more or less.

yeh but their D is horrible. Besides Latvia might get angry and determined because of this loss and be a better team tomorrow (sorry but offense was horrible today). Think positively. lol

Naah, you are just overreacting. Yes, game against Russia, I agree. Other games, really where that close, because in this tournament there really wasn't a one game where our goalies played great.

About, didn't show any respect to Belarus. What do you mean? We played like always in the first period, from the defensie stand point.

From the twitter - how the referee saw the goal :D

Captain of Team Latvia Vasiļjevs: "That piece of **** decided the fate of the game"

Nolan: "I want to see a replay. If it was a clean goal, a street should be named after the referee"

He was going in and out. Nice that some Latvian homers made a screen shot at the moment when he was out and ignored all the other sequences.

Puck crossed the line = good goal.

Latvian player was in the crease = bad goal.
Read the quote from the IIHF rule book that was posted above.

Also that doesn't change the strange fact that ref refused to call for a video replay, and replay did'nt show up on jumbotron. Obviously it's because that was a 100% good goal, goals like that are being scored all the time.
The fact that Belarus can't develop new talent, so they take some canadian guys to win games, makes me sick...

No, that's a bad goal by IIHF rules. He's clearly in the crease at the moment when the puck entered the net.

One skate for a split second, and he's not even interfering with the goalie. It happens fairly regularly on the PP (i recon we could find some examples also from this WC) and I don't see it called very often (and if it is called than there is a clear goalie interference).
