Rinne arrived in time, so he will likely start on goal tomorrow.

Also Finland will likely be using 8 d-man, Atte Ohtamaa-Topi Jaakola will be the 4th pairing.

I'm fairly confident that our guys can pull this off. Finland has a good record against US and I'm not sure how strong the team is.

USA got this easy! gonna be a walk in the park

Seth Jones will score a record breaking 6 goals on Rinne.

Rinne will lose his confidence completely until Olli Jokinen flies over to Prague and takes him out to Mcdonalds for a bik mak.

:help:

But in reality Finland will win 4-2.

Barky with his first official WHC goal!

My money on the US. Very underrated team imo. That defence is stunning.

USA is not an easy opponent to begin the tournament for Finland. I hope they can win the game.

I wouldn't speak of an easy win for Finland, they struggled sometimes in the past in the opening game to take home the win. I hope Pekka Rinne is in form, if they have a strong goalie the chances are quite good for Finland to win the game.

But I'm optimistic and forecast a victory for Finland.

Brock Nelson and Anders Lee were added but I don't know if they will make it in time for the 1st game. With those two added I feel a bit better about the forwards.

Finland is a tough out no matter what the age group. Probably going to see not having a camp for the US will hurt this 1st game. The US better stay out of the box, this killed the US last year against the Czechs.

on your scale of 1-100, what is your ranking of "a bit"?? hahaha

I think this differs from your typical Finland's first game of tournament. First, the opponent isn't going to sit in front of their net waiting for a lucky bounce giving them an odd-man rush. Second, the opponent isn't Non-Hockeystan, so Finns won't be playing 50 percent game. Third, in reality, the opponent is really bad a hockey team. Expecting a complete blowout, something like 5-0 Finland.

I'm usually very optimistic about team USA, but this year I just can't see them even making the quarterfinals, even in a fairly easy group with Norway and Slovakia giving only real competition. US don't have good enough goaltending, big ice is giving some trouble, their offensive guns aren't good enough outside of Eichel, Nelson and maybe Bonino, and those guys shouldn't be your top guys at this level. Add short time to prepare to tournament compared to Europeans...

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines - so nice that we won't have to start with an excruciating onesided Kazakhstan or Belarus game winning the shots like 40-15 and just escaping a draw with a measly 3-1 or 3-2.... Have seen that too many times. Now it will be more open and fast hockey. Don't know much about this year's USA, but would expect them to be quite competitive, luckily the first games are always difficult for the North Americans getting used to the ice and rules and team mates. Maybe 5-3 or 4-2 to us.

big ice is giving some trouble,

^That^ used to have bearing on US teams before but it does not anymore. The US players that are playing in International tournaments have been playing on big ice during U18 and U20 Championships for years now.

Bad on paper doesn't always mean bad on the ice. Also the forwards you named are not the best forwards for the US.

If you compare Finland and USA on paper, they even aren't all that much apart. It's not like our few NHLers are exactly superstars either, so calling USA's players "bad" is pretty much calling some of our key guys bad as well. Other than goal where Rinne obviously blows away whoever USA puts between the pipes, the teams are pretty even.

Chemistry will likely be the deciding factor. Finns obviously know each other well and have had chance to gel more by camping together over the past few weeks. USA comes into this game having played one exhibition game vs. Austria. So Finland seems to have the advantage there, but we'll see.

Agree

USA added Brock Nelson, Anders Lee and another goalie in Jack Campbell to finish the roster (press release on USA hockey site)
