Very well deserved call for Max, JBD showed well in limited time up here.

Yeah I was hard on jbd at the start but his last couple games I liked.

Good for max here to get a shot.

I would like to see crookshank get a game as well

Let's not forget they were still playing meaningful games & trying to move into a playoff spot up just a few games ago.

Lassi looks like he's done with the org then. Someone will pick him up on waivers next year.

Not necessarily, I can see him being offered a 2-way deal, up to Lassi to accept. As Sens fans, we know defensive depth is important, RD depth in particular. It's not like JBD is that much better, he just happens to be a safer player to play limited bottom pairing minutes.

At his age, Lassi is far from being a developed prospect as well. Besides physical maturation, he will learn from man games played. His current issues appear to be centred around his defensive IQ vs. what he obviously brings offensively that are good, but those traits are in abundance with Chabot, Chychrun, Sanderson, and arguably Brannstrom ahead of him in offensive/puck moving type categories.

Much like Sokolov and Crookshank, Thomson is far from "being done" as prospects. Sokolov has a legit chance to compete for a bottom-6 spot as soon as this fall.

And for the man of the hour, Cowboy Max Guennette, is part of that crew of defensive depth this team will need to move forward as an organization.

The hole was dug so deep after November that I didn't see any meaningful game the rest of the way.

It looked like they were going to play meaningful games after winning 5 games straight late February and beginning of March, until they got embarrassed by Chicago 5-0

Season was pretty much over after that. I personally didn't see as they really played meaningful games, they were always trailing far behind

Right move would have been to trade him and recoup a pick or something back but I won’t lose much sleep our D core is pretty set

Our asset management has always been top notch, at this point it doesn't really mater anyways

Imagine giving up on the team in November. We had a pretty epic run from December all the way to beginning of March, with some pretty amazing seasons from the top line in particular. I’m glad I got to enjoy it.

The barn looked good for most of the season too, and we finally had some sellouts, so good on lots of fans for not giving up on the team and going to games. Looks like the vibe is super positive towards our young team and it’s future which is great to see.

Brady and Stu stayed out and signed stuff for fans in what they claimed were the triple digits. Such a nice connection brewing with the fans and these young stars.

I'd love to find a way to package Thomson and Joseph to canucks for garland. Canucks get a rhd prospect that has a better chance of making their roster compared to ours and saves some salary.

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Giroux
Debrincat-Norris-Batherson
Greig-Pinto-Garland

Is a great top 9.

If the organization decides Thomson isn't in the long term plans, I hope we use him in a package to get Connor Ingram from the Yotes. He's top30 in goals saved above expected and is only 26. Put up decent numbers behind a meh Yotes blueline and is someone we can extend for cheap.

On a side note, the 2019 draft has produced some depth for us
-Thomson, his development isn't done and he can still be an NHL defender.
-Pinto is most going to be a 3C at worst in the NHL
-Kastelic is good enough to be a 4C
-Sogaard, loads of potential there and will probably get another 25-30 games next year
-Guenette, legit chance to be a call up as a 7th D
-Lodin, skill isn't an issue and has the IQ to play in the bottom 6, but not sure if he has the grit, but won't be surprised if he gets a few games next year, unless of course he goes to Sweden.

Not a bad draft and depending on the results, might be a more underrated one for us in the future.

The scars are so deep that a Maxence Guenette reward call up turns into moaning about all things from coaching, to Lassi to PD to our season in general... wow.

I'm happy for the kid and despite @Xspyrit 's I told you so tone about how bad everything about this team is he was spot on with the Hamara comparison.

Smooth skating, dependable heads up dman that plays an efficient game who wont wow you with anything in particular but has the potential to be very steady. Zub esque without the physical component but a higher offensive ceiling, or Cam Fowler light.

Good luck Max!

If miracle runs were that common or easy, everyone would do them.

The team had a small probability to overcome that terrible November and like the vast majority of teams in the same situation, they did not.

The people who gave up on the team in November knew it would require an unrealistically hot second half to make the playoffs. They were proven right, and at the same time, many of them still enjoyed watching the hockey.
lol no.

They weren’t proven any more right than the entire hockey world who predicted that the Sens would finish just outside the playoff picture before the season started. Hell even management knew we would be hard pressed to do more than fight to get close this year.

Those folks who hated on the team endlessly while that same squad fought their way all the way back to within a few points of a wildcard spot. Argued how small a chance it was every time we won a game…. No, those people didn’t enjoy the watching hockey, they enjoyed every lose that they thought would prove them right.

The boys had them shitting bricks because being right is more important than enjoying hockey.

Love hearing people defending ‘giving up on the team in November’…. Loser mentality, from the same fans who demand a winning mentality from the team…. ;)

its really hard for some fans to understand, that even if we don't like the state/direction of the team, they can still enjoy watching games and participating in fandom (sports forums, podcasts, fantasy, etc...). Some people have their heads far up their asses to think people watch 70+ games of their team because they're hoping for losses. The hockey gods themselves could come tell me we're going to suck for 10+ years or every player I like will ask for a trade out, i'll be bitter af, but I'll still watch as many games as I can.

Nobody thinks that and I bet you know that. People just can't fathom being pessimistic about something you put so much time, effort and emotion into. And the same people believe the team is moving in the right direction and are happy to give it a little slack.

We were 3 points out of a playoff spot at one point and it crashed down against the worst team in the league (CHI) and then again against another terrible team (who was a actually very good, VAN). We were right there and blowing it against those teams, to me, is what was against the odds.

How on earth are the people that gave up in November exonerated by us not making the playoffs in the end? The losers that can't just see the growth and hope for the best. They're the ones that get to say 'I told ya so' right now...? Bush league.

We all pour so much into this and it's all undeniably moving in the right direction, yet some people can't be positive. It's baffling. I'd love to see a social function with the different personality types at play here in person. You'd have a dark anti-social corner of guys who think they're right about everything yet don't really excel at anything and then you'd have a bunch of other people having fun.

Hopefully next season brings us together.

No fans here think we've made zero progress, they (including me) have valid concerns and aren't about a toxic positive lens of "it'll all be good, we're developing fine". Do people really think that we aren't having fun watching Stu become an elite player? Do people really think we're not happy with Sanderson showing how he's a #1D, or that Claudefather is the best vet we've had since Alfie? Its possible to have fun cheering for what we think is positive about the team, but also point out what we think is an issue.

As for the bolded, its just a numbers game. Statistically and historically speaking, its near impossible for teams to pull back from such horrid starts. Ottawa isn't the first team to have a good second half, and won't be the last. Sure we can enjoy the games in the moment, but after we've settled down and look at the larger picture, its frustrating to have to rely on the team doing something that statistically is so uncommon. Thinking there's only one way to enjoy the season or that those that don't think everything is perfectly fine is arrogant af.

Did they enjoy it?

All of us knew it would take a hot second half lol. No one was out of touch with reality

Interested in seeing him in the NHL.

Just my opinion but I havent been impressed by JBD nor Thomson this year. Both have big flaws in their games.

Been more excited for this guy than JBD and Thomson since I saw him play in the preseason. Now he's putting up points, hes got a decent chance of becoming some type of NHL player.

I dunno i think they just sign him to a two way deal and see if he makes it. At the start of the season there are lots of failed prospects like him that get sent down that no one touches.

Good for Guenette to earn the call up. I thought JBD was solid the last few games as well.

Some talk about "meaningful games" but I think many of us didn't really see it that way because of the hole we dug up early in the season (again, lol). I quoted a post about that and glad it started a discussion (the purpose of us being here). I wish there was an option to directly move conversations to other threads though.

I'm happy for the kid and despite @Xspyrit 's I told you so tone about how bad everything about this team is he was spot on with the Hamara comparison.

Sorry not sure what you're saying here. Did I make a Guenette-Hamara comparison before? I don't recall that

The people who gave up on the team in November knew it would require an unrealistically hot second half to make the playoffs. They were proven right, and at the same time, many of them still enjoyed watching the hockey.

It's about reality and simple maths. When you're trailing hard, you know it's an uphill battle and considering Norris injury, the state of the bottom-6 (probably the worst in the NHL?) and the weakness on the right side D, we knew the odds weren't in our favor. Like you said, doesn't mean we couldn't enjoy the games but honestly I was more following players on an individual level as I didn't have a lot of "faith" in the team overall. I just don't think we have the management and coaching to take the next step and so far I have been right about it since 2020, unfortunately

Loser mentality lol... DJ Dorion have been proving to be the losers for a while. So who has loser mentality? People who demand more competent personnel or people who defend them blindly for everything?

It's not about being right, it's about assessing situations properly. I have talked about all the team mismanagements for years and without the benefit of hindsight most of the time... Dorion makes splash moves that fools the average fan but if you analyze deeper, you see how much he sabotages his own product by many, but less popular, bad moves. Kind of a 1 step forward 2 steps back situation.

We all pour so much into this and it's all undeniably moving in the right direction, yet some people can't be positive. It's baffling. I hope you're not trying to judge people based on their opinions on this forum, you'd be surprised at how misleading it could be. It feels like you think that I fit what you're describing here but ask the 2 guys I met from this forum, Viletho and jules6565, if I'm anything of a "dark anti-social" guy lol

Having higher standards and demanding excellence is not being anti-social or having a loser mentality... lol it's actually the opposite. We have been through an earth scorched rebuild, we can't settle for average/decent results. We need to become a top team for a long time

In the meantime, folks like me think we have been wasting time. We don't expect them to win the Cup tomorrow but the progress is too slow. We haven't even started to learn about "losing in the playoffs" like the Oilers, AVs, Leafs, etc did. Thomas Chabot will turn 27 y/o next season, Taylor Hall made the playoffs for the first time at 26 y/o... Let that sink in.
