Why would anyone in the public eye ever allow comments?
As captain and the returning player, it's going to get overly focused on him. He was one of the more prominent names on the team. I think anyone who is going to lose it on a 19 year old kid on social media over an amateur game of hockey, is going to lash out at something. I just don't think it's fueled in him being Quebecois. There may be a small element of that, but I don't think that is what is fueling it. There were a bunch of people complaining about his diving and running up the score before the game. But he played well enough, I know you are a keen enough observer of the sport that you saw that much. I guess maybe it's explanation enough that the general fan didn't watch or can't follow well enough to make a reasonable assessment and judge him on the penalty shot alone. I think you have to want to dislike someone to reach that far.
There was probably a time before they were in the public eye when they enjoyed comments from their friends and families.
How does diving help you when you are up 10-0 on Denmark? You can't be serious. In any competition a competitor will try to gain an advantage. Don't overreact. The glory for winning definitely ranks over the honor and dignity.
Then make it private, it's not super complicated.
I guess were asking too much for Canadiens to not berate a 19 year old? Then make it private, it's not super complicated.

It’s amazing how many people don’t realize this. We put so much pressure on these KIDS it’s ridiculous. I don’t care if they are 19 and technically adults. They are kids and we need to ease up on them. This isn’t the Olympics and these guys aren’t being paid millions to put up with our ****. They are literally playing for the love of the game. No one takes it harder than the players themselves. The last thing they need is to have Canada harass them because we lost a ****ing hockey game.
I gave up truly caring about this tournament a few years ago. With how much TSN hypes it up and the amount of pressure put on them by the casual fan I just can’t stand to care anymore. I still follow the tournament and TC more than just about everyone except for us HFers but the outcome of the tourney doesn’t matter. I was pissed when Finland scored last night. But I let out a **** and then went and played some battlefield before my own hockey. And guess what, woke up today and it was the same as every other day.
We are absolutely allowed to be critical of his play. Players are also able to set filters on their social media accounts if they don't want to read any negative comments.
Unless someone is making death threats (or calling his parents and leaving voice mails, which would be insane) discussing a player's poor play and attitude on a message board or on their social media account directly is not harassment.
So you don't think players read forums? Is a Steve Simmons article about Kessel eating hot dogs not also then a similar type of harassment? Players are free to make their social media accounts private so only friends and family can leave comments/likes. I'm not saying leaving negative comments is right or wrong, what I'm saying is it's now just part of being a professional athlete in today's social media world. If you can't handle getting negative comments then make your accounts private or don't make one at all. It's not a hard concept. If you think it's acceptable or normal to go on somebody's personal social media and 'discuss a player's poor play and attitude' you're a loser and almost certainly a coward because you wouldn't do it face to face one on one.
forums are another story.
No but the difference is significant. A persons social media, now days is almost like their phone number, where as the your examples are generalized. To me it's almost akin to kicking in someones door, or following them around criticizing...So you don't think players read forums? I am disapointed at the performance of this years team but I am not ashamed of them at all, they did their best and tried their best and don't have to be here if they don't want to.
These idiot fans spewing this **** at Comtois...................them I am ashamed of.

The difference with posting a critical article or being an ******* about a player on a message board is that they have to seek that stuff out... a social media profile is their domain, so to speak.
The phone number comparison is absurd. Everyone promotes their social media online. The league does it with every player profile. Everyone wants you to follow them and "like" their content. Players are free to hide social media content or mark accounts private.
And is it normal to abuse entire country as being a diver? Who was the other canadian diver before him because I can not remember anybody. That's disgusting. It's one thing to critique/criticize their performance on a random forum, but it's another to harass them on their personal social media accounts (instagram, Facebook, etc.).
The internet has certainly given the world a lot of tremendous advantages, but it's also given us a generation of "online tough guys" who seem to think intentionally hurting people is hilarious.

Ok then, apołogize. It just does not look that surprising (I mean the reaction). Probably no one would really kill him. I am not saying he abused entire country, but where else than in Canada should people react to that.Gallagher/Kadri but they weren't captains.
