I do not understand how ownership not is on the phone, or zoom, or facetime, whatever they use for communication SCREAMING at the medical staff to do their job and get him healthy especially given 2 things.

It was supposed to be day to day and It's been 2 weeks and likely 3 by the time he's back how do you get something so f***ing wrong?

#2 they have invested 13.25 million a year into him that's currently the most in the league and next year it'll still be #2.

Ownership should be losing their minds.

He has suffered through this injury for a few years. I suspect shoulder. Grapes always said shoulder separation issues always reoccur unless surgery is performed.

I feel it could be only 2 possible things. A bad back or something related to partying to much.

I thought the one solitary thing that's been made available to the public about this issue is that it was "lower body".

I don't know if it's Matthews, or the team, or the two of them working together that repeatedly keep everyone in the dark every time he misses games due to injury or whatever this is.

No one hears anything, no one knows anything, it's just shrouded in secrecy and everyone here's forced to accept it.

What did they get wrong?

What did they get wrong?

What do you mean what did they get wrong? How did they NOT get it wrong? It was announced as day to day which tells me that the medical staff must have given some indication that it was day to day.

That was 2 weeks ago, at least that's when this thread was posted.

It will be at least another week before he's back.

3 weeks is NOT day to day.

They got it wrong.

Probably weren't sure how long it would be, hence the day to day.
Don't see the big deal, he'll play when he's healthy regardless of what they announce.

I don’t think they are necessarily being transparent with the public so what they are doing behind the scenes has nothing to do with how it’s played out in reality.

But I will say if it is his back, it’s probably not a good idea to talk up how much tennis was played in the summer time as they did in preseason, since tennis and back problems are kind of a thing.

Maybe next summer the best thing for Matthews is to go to Nova Scotia and work with Crosby, Mackinnon… and Marner.

Lmao. Now we have posters arguing that he's injured because he played a game of tennis in the offseason.
Some people really do love pulling narratives out of nowhere.
Hopefully he's back soon.

In the complete absence of any transparency from the team all you can do is speculate. So if they’re leaking that it’s not the wrist or a shoulder, and people are guessing it’s a back issue, well here’s some reading for you Dr. Dekes.

13.4 for a guy with a wonky back? Sure hope they did more due diligence then that before giving him that monster deal.
I seriously hope that Karma is not going to bite him in the ass for trying to squeeze out every penny and going short term on his deals. If he has a bad back (I heard shoulder from someone who knows someone at MLSE...but I don't think a shoulder would keep you from skating)...he is going to wish he signed up for 8yrs.

Why wouldn't he at least be skating if it was a shoulder?

The Leafs obviously don't care about public speculation as they have chose to keep this internal.

Although in a massive hockey market this seems to be just asking for wild speculation and rumours.

I kind of thought when betting was allowed the NHL would be a little more transparent with injuries not unlike the NFL.

The idea that Matthews pushed for 4 years indicates that he believed he was healthy.

If you think you are going to be hurt why not take an extra gauranteed 55-60 million?

I am on repeated record saying 2 years ago I wanted him to be on a shorter contract. I don’t think he stays here forever. I would LOVE to be wrong. My personal guess is he stays for 2-3. Gets the all time leaf goal record and moves down south to sign for an 8 year deal.

Who has he saw in Germany?
Was it for his back, shoulder, wrist, leg, or head injuries?

Why go to Germany. Was it from when he was in the NLA?
