Speculation: Matthews to California team for two 1sts?

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Yup. Considering both Freidman and Johnston said their sources are saying Matthews is happy with the offseason and commited to the Leafs this year... This is clearly bullshit before you even get into the return.

Do you think leafs HO thinks there might be some legs to the narrative that American olympians have colluded to leave their Canadian teams?

If so, it might not matter what Matthews says to anybody

If they think there is even the tiniest bit of risk he walks, they might feel forced to move him now if he will waive

And out of all the media with connections in the league, Berger a guy who runs a funeral home and hasn't worked in media outside of shit posting trade ideas in decades has not only the scoop of Matthews being dealt but the location and return?

Matthews is NOT getting moved. You can bet the house on that.

In two days, Toronto is drafting the first overall pick Gavin McKenna. Him and Matthews are going to be a dynamic duo for a years to come. Matthews is scoring 60 + goals this upcoming season.

Isn't Auston going to be there to make the pick? At least that was the talk a few weeks ago

Maybe someday. Now he doesn't have the build or fortitude to excel at the position
He's doing great as Celebrini's wingman
And Misa is? He's still an "if". And if they take Knies, they can play him with Celebrini and move Smith to his natural Center position on the 2nd line who is more NHL ready than Misa.

Smith will never be an NHL center, he doesn't have the skating, motor, or defensive acumen to do it. He's a permanent winger, who occasionally takes faceoffs.

Misa is a good skater, an actual center with the skating and motor to play there at the NHL level (and he looks like he's going to be acceptable defensively there, while also being dangerous offensively). I expect Misa to be a long-term point-per-game center centering the Sharks' second line, playing net-front on the power play (allowing Celebrini to run around and do his thing) and getting heavy penalty kill minutes.

Smith will be Celebrini's Patrick Kane (not as good, unless we're really, really lucky, but the same type of player in broad strokes).

Knies isnt worth Misa.I'm sorry, Misa just isn't happening for a winger
And I'm sorry but it does make sense for both teams as I explained before. You can think there isn't value there but right now Knies is the better player in this hypothetical.

No, it doesn't make sense for SJ to trade Misa for Knies. And once again, Knies isn't worth Misa.
I'm the biggest proponent of trading for Knies you'll find on the Sharks board. But, no.
Give it up already

And I'm not the biggest proponent of trading Knies. This trade would be a bigger "if" for the Leafs than the Sharks. That's why I see the value there. It's essentially a 1st line winger for a 2nd line C. Yes, Misa has great potential, even as a 1C, and he could surpass Knies. But that's still an if. If Sharks want to get better sooner rather than later, this trade does make sense for them. And for the Leafs, it gives them an option in case Matthews leaves, or he replaces Tavares as 2C.

Knies for Misa just isn't going to happen.
Yes, Misa would be tracking as as a true 1C if not for playing on the same team as Celebrini.
According to Grier, he's not looking to accelerate the rebuild.
Knies simply isn't worth Misa. Nor is he worth the 2oa

This is what I'm not understanding with the Sharks. To me, it was odd trading Eklund. In my opinion, the potential is already there and it's time to make moves that pushes the team into the playoffs. More draft picks isn't going to improve the team right now. It somewhat reminds me of the Oilers until they got McDavid. But Sharks already have their "McDavid" with Celebrini yet I don't think their going to make the playoffs. The roster essentially got worse with that trade. So, I'm thinking Knies fills in that role. But it's ok to disagree. There's only so much to be said here.

...trading Eklund is a clear sign that Stenberg is the pick at 2nd Overall...with 9th & 27th Overall as well, SJ could try and move up by packaging them or trade them to another team still in the rebuilding phase and get a Dman back...

Yeah, that is the rumor. Will be very cool if it is true.

It is so funny to see all these Toronto fans having a fit over Matthews trying to lower his value and discredit him.

I guess they are oblivious to the 3 rocket trophies….50 goals in 50 games….most goals scored in the NHL since he entered the league. Hahaha, it is funny how these facts got left out, huh?
