Speculation: Matthews to California team for two 1sts?

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Yeah, because since then he’s become a generational goal scorer behind on 3 guys in the history of the sport. And ahead of Ovechkin.
Maybe we should sign Ovechkin, he'll cost nothing in trade.

Or maybe just sign Gretzky. He scored 92 goals age 21, Michael Misa will never match that.

And since then he's become a 0.88 ppg scorer (T-66th in the league) and still carries a cap hit of $13.25M (2nd in the league). He's soon to be 29 years old coming off a season where he missed 22 games due to a major knee injury which required surgery to correct following a season where he missed 15 games with rumors of back and wrist injuries. He's not the guy he was in 2023 and doesn't carry that value.

I think a lot are overvaluing Matthews. 1st - did you not just watch the Carolina hurricanes with no superstars and the highest caphit of 9.5 mil just win the cup. One nhl player doesn’t impact the game like other sports. 2nd Matthews health and it’s likely chronic 3rd Matthews best days are behind him. Go check superstars like Crosby, Malkin, Kane, Ovie,, they all had their best years before 25. 4th and maybe more importantly Matthews has underwhelmed every playoff year. You think after 10 years Matthews will all of a sudden be a playoff monster, good luck.

This post is pretty stupid seeing what Brady Tkachuk just got as the significantly worse player who was a ghost in the playoffs.

Matthews scores 40 goals in his sleep. A healthy motivated Matthews with a new coach and he's back to 60 goals. Find anyone who can do that, u can't. So go enjoy misa and his 9 goals.
Not a single Sharks fan has ever proposed Misa, Smith or the 2OV for Matthews, let alone ++. Like ever. So yes, the plan is to enjoy Misa's 9 goals.

I'm just an armchair GM who woke up in the middle of the night.

But I've been saying, there's probably something brewing with the Leafs and Sharks.

And from the Leafs side it probably involves both Matthews and Mo. I dunno, Mo rumoured to be willing to wave his NMC for San Jose specifically, and Matthews not sure what happens next...............

When Marleau signed with the Leafs he invited a bunch of the young guys to hang out at his place in San Jose during the off-season, and Matthews LOVED it and Marleau and his family left a real impression on him.

I'm just throwing stuff out there.

But if you wikipedia Marleau, this part really blew my mind and has nothing to do with anything, just I didn't know this:

"At the time he surpassed Howe's record, Marleau had missed only 31 games in his career, and had played with or against 37% of the players who had ever played in the NHL"

WTF?

Before you start apply for GM jobs, just be aware this is coming from a guy who is a full time funeral director and still has a Wordpress blog. The last time Howard Berger had actual sources, the United States was still a liberal democracy.

No worries, my resume doesn't pass the AI test.

Apparently I'm useless at 48 years old despite my decades of expertise in my field.

And,

It makes more sense to have Knies for Michael Misa. Seems like a good trade for both teams. Sharks need a Winger and Lefs need a Center. Leafs will have excess LWs and Sharks have excess Cs. Seems like a good match to me. Rielly could be involved as well, but I think it makes sense for the Sharks to pursue Knies.

In no universe is Knies worth Misa
How about the 9th, Muk and Musty
Rumors are the Leafs were looking for a top 10 pick, roster player and a prospect

2+9 is alot more than tkachuk got. Cmon. People acting like "two 1sts" are less, but not taking into account the difference between picks
