Matthews is on pace for the worst goal scoring season of his career

Last year through 19 games he had 9 goals and 19 points, this year through 19 games he has 8 goals and 20 points. He’ll go on a run and wind up with 50+ goals and 90+ points. He’s definitely played like ass, but even playing like ass he’s a point per game player.

Weirdo accusation considering you don't know me and I've never posted anything like that

And as a 7th year player Matthews has the same amount of playoff series wins as 1st overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky. And a whole lot less than Caufield and Suzuki. You must have a short memory.

And they all have the same amount of cups, 0. All losers.

Remember when the Eastern Canadian media tried to convince themselves he was better than McDavid?

Funny times.

Having said that, he’s still a fantastic player and should start piling up goals soon I’m sure.

Matthews has 8 goals in 19 games this year, still one of the best goal scorers in the league no doubt, but a slow start for him.

Most people didn't expect him to score 60 again this year, but what is surprising is that he is actually on pace for the worst goal scoring season of his career.

As a rookie he managed 40 goals, and in the following seasons he was always on pace for at least 40-50 if not for injury.

This season he is on pace for ~35 goals.

34 goals is actually his worst goal output so if he is on pace for 35 he's not on pace for his worst goal scoring season.

Also I'd like to point out 34 goals is his worst goal scoring season.

34 goals

In his 34 goal season he missed 20 games and was on pace for 45 goals.

Which I mentioned and you chose to ignore for nonsense

At least we're all on the same page

OP will post this, but is one of the people that will pout and whine "wHy iS tHiS oN tHe MaIN BoARdS" and "tOo ManY leAF tHrEAds" when Matthews has a scoring streak that gets posted a month or two from now.

As a rookie he managed 4 goals in 1 game, which is the same amount of points 1st overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky has after 13 games.
What does Slaf have to do with this? No one thinks he's on Matthew's level this is an absurd statement 🙄

Stop already. It's not worth having this discussion right now.
If he scores 2 goals next game he's back on pace for over 40. (41).
If he scores a hat trick next game he's on pace for 45 goals.
It's way too early for this. This is an end of the season topic if his scoring is down. Right now it's just too early as the pace can sky rocket with 2 big games.

20pts in 19 games. But as the leaf faithful made clear in the MVP thread. Goals are more important that assists. So I get this thread

I'm going to stop choosing him in the Tim's game. I dropped him for awhile then mistakenly thought alright he's ready to go on a run! Yeah, no, at this rate, I'm going to lose weight.

I wish we could ban pace threads before game 20.

Pace threads should just go away altogether.

When a player has a slow start, we often see people refer to his pace to end the season prior. But it really doesn't mean anything if it hasn't carried over to the next season, because then it's just a cyclical argument for players who don't hit the numbers they always pace for. Good players don't need pace to help show they're good, even when they have a cold stretch, and Matthews is a damn good player.

He had 9 goals after 19 games last year...

He was a better player than McDavid in the regular season last year and by a comfortable level

McDavid went generational in the playoffs and been the best in the world again this year

Overall 97>>34. Matthews was better in the 2022 regular season though

Did the Eastern Canadian media convince the players Matthews was better last season?
