Yeah the underlying numbers don't paint us in a great light, but I truly felt while watching the game that we were in full control after going up 2-0 and once we went up 3-0 I knew we had sealed the game. Looked like we were in cruise control the whole time. The wierd thing about this is we played really well defensively, yet stats say we gave up 14 high danger chances which is quite a bit. I know score effects play a part but odd. All though in terms of just scoring chances against, it was our 5th best performance.
Just a reminder we’ve got not one, but two hotshot defenders just chomping at the bit in the minors with another one that is coming off a international tournament where he was selected as the top defender.Oiler fans blaming the loss on scratching Bouchard.![]()
Yeah one of those games where stats don't tell an accurate picture. We were pretty solidYeah the underlying numbers don't paint us in a great light, but I truly felt while watching the game that we were in full control after going up 2-0 and once we went up 3-0 I knew we had sealed the game. The xGF numbers are at least a bit more favourable, showing a pretty even split when adjusting for score effects.
Last time I remember being so appreciative of a bottom pairing guy was when the Mark Fraser - Cody Franson pairing was a +20 on a middling leafs team. Bogo might hurt us 5v5 in the long run due to his limited puck skills, but at this price, his ability to play the PK and take no crap demeanour, he’s worth it.Bogosian was great tonight.
I personally was impressed with that one shift when they hemmed reunited cm and ld in Edmonton zone and almost scored.I think we finally have our 3rd line checking line, boys and girls.
One of the few benefits of having no fans in the stands is you catch stuff like this.Man, does he ever communicate well on the ice. In the first period I heard "GO JOHNNY GO, GO JOHNNY GO, GO JOHNNY GO!" when Tavares scooped up a loose puck deep in the o-zone and Thornton was a few steps behind him as Tavares was circling the net.
Did you quote the wrong person? What does your comment have to do with mine?
Guys I don't think Marner came out to celebrate Soupy's shut-out win. Is there a rift between Marner and Soupy?

To me, Bogosian is the goal standard 3rd pairing guy. He does everything you want a 3rd pairing guy to do exceptionally well. Part of it is just being smart. He knows his strengths and limits and keeps it simple.Last time I remember being so appreciative of a bottom pairing guy was when the Mark Fraser - Cody Franson pairing was a +20 on a middling leafs team. McDavid would do anything to be a Leaf. Poor guy.
He was also visibly furious after the Leafs scored one of their goals. Not good body language, no.I saw this as McDavid motivating himself for Monday more so than any type of envy. That said, if I were a Oiler fan, I would be really concerned about McDavids body language. He was shaking his head at a teammate in the Leafs zone after a turn over, then all of those multiple bench shots. I wont say that he will be a future Leafs, but with the way the Oilers have been constructed around him, I doubt he stays there in his upcoming UFA.
Re Campbell yes lack of experience is the big one. Also he didn't figure out the game until a couple years agoTo me, Bogosian is the goal standard 3rd pairing guy. I was not of a fan of Dubas a year ago, but, man, he has redeemed himself, big time, in my eyes. His off-season acquisitions were amazing. Not only skill wise (vs salary), but leadership/likability wise too. A year ago, a lot of us ranked this team as "unlikeable" in polls. That has changed. With guys like Campbell, Brodie, Thornton, Spezza, Simmonds, and Bogosian on the team, the character of team is different. Factor in the younger guys maturing a bit too and the team is now very likeable.
Speaking of Campbell, why is he considered a backup? Is it just lack of experience? His positioning, demeanor, and skill scream starter. I guess we just need to see if he can be consistent over a large stretch of games. I'm actually kind of hoping that he plays, at least, 2 or 3 more. We need to know what we have. It's going to be important this year.
