The Matthews threads are always closed quickly. Some folks want us to ignore the elephant in the room, meanwhile every other element of the team has a thread dedicated to it.

What does knowing exactly what the injury is matter? Personally I don’t care, sore wrist, bad back, groin pull, who cares, knowing the length of time off I’m curious about. Anytime I’ve had an injury dr’s gave me estimates, although onetime I was told, we don’t know how long.

For gambling purposes. The betting sites know what’s wrong and so should the bettors.

Sure we like information but as fans we aren't entitled to know why someone is hurt.

It’s strange how they handle injury reports.

Lack of transparency breeds speculation and I don’t think it helps the player or the team.

If an injury is shrouded in mystery, it’s not exactly the location of it that’s important, its severity, cause and blame.

Severity as in, how serious can it be, to omg is this career altering? In either extreme you can’t know whether the player is dealing with something that others would brush off, to whether the player is permanently damaged.

And cause as in, what caused it, what will continue to cause it, and how will this impact his play if he played at a high level and it was damaging.

Finally, the blame. Is it the player or team that’s doing something wrong to prevent this injury. Were other surgical and rehab options pursued to avoid this time lost, and if not, why not?

It’s all bad. Being transparent would wipe a lot of these talking points away. But again if you don’t care what the peasants think, it also doesn’t matter.

I thought under privacy legislation the medical condition cannot be disclosed without consent. Highly unlikely it will be leaked as it could result in a job termination.
Add to that you don’t want the player’s condition being targeted by the opposing team. Probably a good idea not to disclose the condition.

I have never understood how football can be so over the top transparent where there is hitting, scrums, piles on every play and there is no excuse of the other team might try to exploit the injury.

Just like it wasn't too early to say this team wasn't built properly for the playoffs the past 8 years.

It's already obvious that making Matthews captain was a mistake.

His numbers won't be the same as captain and they'll try to blame it on injuries like they have with every slump in his career.
