You guys really think Calgary is going to knock it out of the park on the return for Tkachuk?

Calgary has no leverage. Every team knows that Tkachuk is available and they also know that they can get him for nothing after next season as he's probably getting a 1 year deal.

It'll be for picks, incl at least one 1st round pick, prospects, and a couple of players to offset Tkachuk's salary.
You're wrong. Only ONE team will get him for nothing next year. There will absolutely be a large market for him, some contenders might be willing to roll the dice and try to spend a year selling him on being there

With rumours of Tkachuk on the move. I've come up with a Blockbuster trade similar to one Burke made with Phaneuf trade.

Calgary

Marner
Reilly

Toronto

Tkachuk
Andersson

Flames get a replacement for Johnny Hockey. Leafs a thoughess for the playoffs. Who says no?
The Leafs cant lose 20+ minutes a night of Morgan Rielly. Now, Andersson isn’t a clown by any stretch.... in fact, he’s a really solid dman, but he’s no Morgan Rielly.

In this deal the Leafs go even further backwards than they already have this summer.

They need to add a couple of players who are hard to play against. Especially along the walls and in traffic. Same old thing they’re looking for every summer it seems. They just can’t lose someone like Rielly to gain some of that up front.

The good thing is, with the cap barely moving again, theres’s a lot of bottom six players, who’ve been making decent money, who are going to be taking 1 year, $1 million type deals.

I’m ok with the Jarnkrok signing, as he’s been a producing depth player over the years. With the Leaf’s style, he should be fine in the regular season. The concern with him, is how poorly he played last year after his trade to the Flames. He was even worse when things tightened up in the playoffs. The last thing the Leafs are going to need come playoffs.

Brutal for Flames fans.. they underperform for years. The years they had success they were out first year and then crushed in the battle of Alberta this past year. Only to lose their 2 cornerstone pieces in 2 weeks... Unfortunate, really enjoyed the battle of Alberta with successful squads.

Flames needed to get on this sooner. Now it’s tougher to make a deal now that cap is tight. ROR was moved by the draft both times he got dealt.

I see the Covid restriction stuff, but I don't see it impacting the Jays which has even more vocal people within the sport (just look at the Royals roster this weekend). Robbie Ray wanted to stay, but Gausman took the offer first, who were the two of the three biggest UFA pitchers last year, and they weren't giving Seiman that deal.
Toronto is the most "American" like city that has cultural cachet and is seen as a desirable place. Hate to see what's happening to Calgary as they built a great team, but Calgary/Edmonton/Winnipeg are near the bottom of the desirability list.

lol no. Most Flames fans, at least the ones with brains, have been wanting a rebuild or at the least, an aggressive retool for a while now.

Simple fact, you can't win a cup by building around wingers and especially so when you have no franchise centermen or defensemen. Sinking 20M+ on two wingers, no matter how elite, was a recipe for disaster from the get go.

So Tkachuk refusing to sign is in fact a blessing in disguise if you have the long term picture in mind. Regardless of the quality of the return, it virtually guarantees a rebuild now because in a span of a few weeks, all of the main offensive drivers on the team will be gone. They literally have no choice. And just in time for one of the deepest drafts in a few years with a boat load of elite talent at the top.

NHL players are looking at the leverage star NBA players have and are trying to take more control over where they play. Too bad there’s this pesky thing called the RFA system.

PLD, Tkachuk, who will it be next? And which teams if any will buckle down and say “you know what, we don’t have to trade you so feel free to sit and collect no pay”.

Toronto is probably the most American in the sense it is probably the closest in style to the major North Eastern Cities with some Midwest mixed in there. It probably depends on where in the states you are coming from and comparing it to.

I just find it a little frustrating when all the cities get grouped together since some of the cities are dramatically different than the others. MTL while a great city can also run into some issues due to the whole language thing (and QC would take that to the next level).

NJ: Tkatchuk (signed)

CLG: 2023 1st (unprotected), 2024 2nd, Gritsyuk, Mukhamadullin, Sharangovich/Johnsson
I think it would have to be Johnsson. And honestly I would add another piece from NJ. MT is worth the haul, another player from the tier 2 prospects, couple of 1st round players are in that group.
