If this exact set of circumstances played out in any big passionate hockey market, the response would be similar. But literally no other team comes close. They’re either too bad to ever get in these games or good enough to win them every once in awhile at least.

My opinion is based on what I have experienced around the city. I know how many ads and attention Toronto legends get around town. These are guys who didn't even win a cup.

I agree to an extent. Teams like Vancouver and Toronto have toxic media that I think it affect their teams psychologically. There are reasons why some players avoid going there. The media pressure is the worst and I think it jinxes the team due to negative energy and bad vibes. For example, Canucks have gotten rid of Miller to remove the feud that was happening between Pettersson and Miller yet the Media still writes articles about how Pettersson drama still aint over or articles of Hughes leaving is pretty much a guarantee.

I think this is largely BS. The whole too much media attention/too much pressure in Toronto or other Canadian markets is mostly just an excuse to disguise the real reason why many players don't want to play in Canada which is more likely they prefer to stay in the US than play in Canada where the weather is generally worse, the standard of living is often worse and taxes can be higher and you have to cross a border between nations.

If you're a rich and especially a rich, young athlete its definitely better to live in the US or elsewhere than Canada these days. Its the same reason why the Raptors in their entire history has never been able to attract a star free agent player in their prime to their team and the same goes for the Jays who usually lose out on the best players in free agency who always choose a US team to sign with.

Also its weird to me that hockey players, at least some of them are the only athletes that think that having the spotlight and media attention on you is a BAD THING. In any other sport most athletes WANT that attention and they WANT to be 'the man' that garners the most media coverage about them.

Shanahan has never been in danger of losing his job. Picture this, Florida had to change things up by getting Tkachuk to win the cup but the Leafs kept these same bozos for years expecting a different result. Trash take. Toronto is unable to "inflict the same amount of pain" because they are SOFT! They are LOSERS! Their leaders are more worried about doing dances, fashion, and money, rather than doing what it takes to win playoff games and rounds. ZERO dogs on that team. Soft ass Charmin team. I don't know if any other sports is tilted like that, in Florida nobody knows who you are (example Barkov have said he enjoys this a lot) versus Toronto or Montreal where you are constantly interrupted and pressure is high (many captains have mentioned this for example Koivu), maybe they are mental midgets, maybe every person is limited that way.
