Prospect Info: Matthew Robertson, LD, 2nd round, 49th overall, 2019

this kid is another subtle pick that will ultimately pay dividends. this pick, along with the miller pick last year, has added another- big body big wingspan defenseman who play defense and can motor up ice. robertson shows solid skating and smooth hips.

these 2 guys are both prototypical 2 way defenders who will matchup well and play quality minutes in all 3 zones. these 2 bookends will be monsters on this defense. miller 6'5 and robertson 6'4

loved this pick as a solid value in round 2. kid has 1st round talent. like k'andre miller, this kid will develop and step right in after 2 years of development.

the left side looks to be well stocked.

He seems a lot like Skjei as a prospect. Worse skater but better hockey iq

Not similar at all.

It wont be this offseason and barring some major improvements from other guys it won't be next offseason, but I don't think Skjei is here going into 21-22 and it will be through no fault of his own.

Wasn't he injured to start the year? As a result I believe he didn't head back to juniors when he was assigned from camp. But this is really interesting timing. Need more info.

I'm sure there's some reason for doing this now, but I don't know the CBA well enough to figure out why.

I believe that there are contract slide implications to signing him before 12/31 while he is still 18.

Correct, but the slide implications aren't a factor here. If he signed next year, the contract would still be eligible for 1 slide, since he's a late birthday
