Matthew Knies, do not trade this kid.

Very excited for this player, we definitely can't trade him for a short term rental.

But for the sake of this kid, don't expect him to go Wendel Clark 1993 playoffs as he makes his debut this spring. Chances are there will be an adjustment period and he won't look like Auston Matthews on steroids the first go round. But it is definitely exciting that he may be a future core player.

He will be the hero Bonnie tyler sangs about
She also sang "It's a heartache"

So if something comes up trade wise that effectively makes us better NOW he may be in a trade.

AND,...If Dubas is listening to Guns and Roses, he may have Patience but then again he may be listening to the rolling stones and feel "time, time, time,.... is on our side"
But,..I'd rather Dubas be listening to Accept and get those balls to the wall man because the playoffs are right around the corner and like David Wilcox sings,...we need to be ready for........

I’m likely in the minority here but unless we can make a pure hockey trade and get rid of say a a Kerfoot or Holl and upgrade with younger talent or players signed for multiple years I don’t want to trade away our firsts for rentals to compete with the Bostons or TB.

We don’t have any certainty with AM and Nylander both on the verge of FA and until they are locked up those picks could be super valuable. Just look at how bad a shape the Panthers are one year removed from the presidents trophy.

If we look at Knies as a TDL acquisition that’s fine for me. Again would I like to upgrade on our 3C or D sure but again it’s Holl or Kerfoot for Upgrade IMO. Next year I expect the right side to potentially be

Brodie
Liljegren
Timmins

Brodie is the wild card in that he plays both left and right. I suspect we need a replacement for Muzzin. Gavrikov would be who I would target in the off-season. Next years D pairings:

Rielly Liljegren
Sandin Brodie
Gavrikov Timmins
Gio

With Gav and Brodie on PK and Sandin and Liljegren on PP 1 and 2. Rielly’s lack of shot have made him a non threat on the point and I’m tired of him on the PP. All 31 Teams know he will pass or a weak wrister from the point.

Dubas is in an interesting spot, can he deal 1st rounders even though he's not extended? Can he trade top prospects when he may not be back next year?

Stay tuned lol

Proposal:

to NYI: Matthew Knies, and a Bucket of Chicken

to TOR: 3 X 1st round picks (2023, 2024, and 2026), and Future Considerations

;)

I would say we have some certainty when I comes to Matthews and Nylander. A lot of players tend to play the majority of their playing career with the team who drafted them.

As for the 1st round picks? They will be used again and again. Toronto aren't exactly tanking or rebuilding right now...

As the GM we have to assume he has autonomy to make any move he wants.

I'm waiting until either Dubas pulls the trigger on a significant trade or re-signs Bunting in-season to conclude that. In any case, I doubt Knies is going anywhere simply because he's the team's best prospect and he brings the toolset this roster still needs desperately.

Making a move wouldn't prove autonomy, maybe he got permission?

Shouldn't Holl be included there, I think there's a poster or 2 or 3 that are demanding we trade the dman with the best defensive numbers on the team, but apparently also the dman with the world's worst publicist.

Would be nice if he were able to acclimate smoothly this spring. Been a while since we graduated a forward worth a damn.
Yes it would but even a guy like Bozak who was a great collegian and became a pretty good pro needed time to acclimate to the pro game.
I'm not counting on Knies for anything yet. He doesn't exist as a prospect until he's at least signed to an EL contract. JMHO.
Exactly, but too many people are somehow seeing this kid as "the answer," "the savior," "Conn Smythe winner," when no one has a clue how he'll handle the carnivores wearing NHL uniforms!
The early returns on Holmberg and McCann look positive.
Yep for sure, I like Holmberg so far, and McMann looks like he can handle the physicality alright, he hasn't looked out of place in the slightest as yet.

I doubt that he'd be absolutely off limits in trade. That stated, I wouldn't expect him to be moved for a rental and do believe that he'll be retained through the trade deadline.

Been a fan of this kid since he was drafted. I read on Gopher's site he is now 6'3" 222lb up 12 from draft year. Big physical forward with good hands no way should he be traded for a water bug

Anyone in the NHL you can compare him to, to give me an idea of what his projection should/could be?
Lest we forget, since I have been on these forums, the hype surrounding our prospects is always off the charts.
