Do you guys think he actually learned anything valuable from Laraque or was that more of a publicity thing ?

Do you guys think he actually learned anything valuable from Laraque or was that more of a publicity thing ?

The clip showing Matthew throwing upper cuts for about 15 seconds. Laraque said it went a lot further than bat. He had Rempe and Tyrel Bauer for 3 full days and they went over a lot more and he actually had to fight Rempe over and over again. Laraque has actually claimed for some time he never went home during the offseason to bang heavy bags or any of the boxing shit that other fighters of his day and even today will do. He was entirely preoccupied with his core strength and when you look at his fights they invariably show him overpowering his opponents---then freeing his left hand and then pounding the crap out of them. It worked really well for him. That said he's much shorter than Rempe and without nearly his reach so he tailored Matthew's instruction on using what advantages of size and reach he has. We'll see I guess but I expect him to fight smarter this year.

Apart from that apparently he did a lot of power skating and just skating in general over the summer. From when we drafted him he'd already made a lot of progress up until last season. There's no reason he's not going to be better.....he seems to have both motivation and work ethic. Do I expect all of his awkward moments to be over? Probably not but I kind of do expect he will be better and that the Rangers are monitoring him even closer than they have before. He's also spent quite a lot of time with Kreider and Chris's work habits have always been outstanding.

I'll note this those people who suggest that too many slugouts like Matthew had with Deslauriers and he'll have a short career. That's true....he needs to use his size and reach but I'd also note that Deslauriers is probably not going to fight him like that again or his career might not last that much longer either. Just from an outside observation he looked a lot worse afterwards than Rempe did. Olivier the next night was the one that really raised concern more.

If they're going to continue to play Rempe 4 minutes a game, they should send him to Hartford. Him playing so little isn't helping him or the team. This should be the option when Vesey is healthy enough to play. He's not developing and the team winds up playing a man short (for all intents and purposes).

The goal is to win the Stanley Cup, and if they think he can be a part of that, he needs to be playing. Screw the crowd favourite stuff.

The NYR have had 9 fights so far in 2024-25 and I have to say I'm surprised that
Rempe wasn't involved in any of them.
His last fight is now 199 days ago.

So what's up? Is he injured? Has Laviolette ordered him not to fight?
Is it Rempe not wanting to? Or just one of those things nobody can control and it's only circumstances.

On paper Rempe has had the opportunity to go with several middle/heavyweights that have been in the line-up when he's been dressed:

Scott Mayfield (6' 5" • 213 lbs) on Sep 24 vs NYI.
Mayfield went with Lindgren that game.

Jackson van de Leest (6' 6" • 225 lbs) on Oct 1 vs NJD.
JVDL went with Groulx that game.

Michael Kesselring (6' 4" • 190 lbs) and Jack McBain (6' 3" • 201 lbs) on Oct 12 vs Utah.
Kesselring went with Carrick and McBain fought Edstrom that game.

Maybe Rempe could/would have fought Mark Kastelic (6' 4" • 226 lbs) on Sep 26 if he hadn't been scratched, we'll never know.
Kastelic went with Mackey that game.

Whatever the case may be, I'm eagerly awaiting his first fight of the season. Hope they stop scratching him and that he'll stay up and have a good season.

Send the kid down to get playing time.Playing 5 minutes a game once a week will do nothing for his development

Great.thanks for providing a point that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.
The point is hockey fans have been conditioned to be stupid. An NBA coach has 13 players available to them and may decide to play 8. Never 13. Nobody questions why they don’t use all 13. An NHL coach has 18 skaters available to them and if all 18 don’t hit some minimum threshold of ice time then that coach is failing at his job. Why? And this isn’t merely about Rempe/development. If it was 3 Brodzinskis on the 4th line getting 4 minutes a game people would be losing their S. Again, why?

I think he works hard and has more to offer. I would send him down. I think he’s an NHLer right now, but with some refinement in the AHL, he can develop into possibly a 3rd liner (or at the very least the best 4th liner of all time).
