That looks like an obvious chicken wing he threw out there.
If it was, it was a last second reaction and not something he intended. He went in for the hit, Siegenthaler moved back to avoid the hit. A lot of guys will instinctively reach in reaction to complete the hit. I think that's what happened. He didn't go into the hit with the intent to elbow him in the head. He's a tough kid and kind of reckless, but I don't think he's really trying to hurt anyone.

Beukeboom was also talking him up per Boyle. He thinks, like me, Rempe can be an ELITE PKer in the future as well as contribute as a 3rd liner. He's so young and already so strong and fast. And that's only going to get better as he grows into his body.
That was a great takeaway from the podcast. The org knew what they had for a few years. They played him in a preseason game at 19, again at 20 and multiple games this past preseason.

The speed at that size is eye opening. The physicality and aggressiveness is a bonus. Having a PK pair with him and Edstrom would be wild. Wingspans that cover half the zone.

If Rempe, Edstrom and Roobroeck all hit as regulars, it’s unimaginable value from the 6th round. We’re gonna see other teams copying the approach

I fully remember a lot of the "WTF" around the Rempe pick, too. I really love the idea of taking big guys that can skate (Edstrom is a very good skater for his size - not as good as Rempe, but still very good - probably league average or barely below).

My thought would be to take at least one each draft as a mid-round flyer if they are there. 6'6"+ 200lb+ kids that can skate can be molded into what you want them to be. If they flame out, they flame out.

I think the key with these guys is that they have to accept their role at a young age. It doesn't do anyone any good to select a big kid at 18 who is trying to play like Jack Hughes in the 6th round. Odds are he isn't going to be a 'skill' player. finding the guys who have the ability and desire to carve out bottom-6 roles for themselves at this size means hardworking, diligent kids who don't mind throwing their weight around.

I think Edstrom is a better skater than Rempe...maybe Rempe might be a touch faster in a straight line but he's still got a lot of that big guy awkwardness and pivots and such are slow. Edstrom just looks like a regular good NHL skater except he's giant.

e: I find it a bit weird that the main board thread has basically just devolved into people being given free reign to slag the kid and say whatever they want to about him.

Main board cesspool posters now just making shit up about the kid. Apparently he "seeks out 3rd man in hits" like the one Manson made the other night.
Let them seethe, if there was any knock against the Rangers it was how lethargic we played. So many of us have complained even when being atop the standings we played with no energy, no pulse, no excitement; dull boring hockey. At the end of the day sports is about entertainment and Rempe has injected an energy into the team that I haven’t seen in my entire time as a Ranger fan. He’s a 6’8 240lb ‘berta boy who showed up and flipped over this country clubs picnic table. Imagine being a defenseman in the playoffs picking up a puck behind your net while you hear the entire Garden chanting Rempe as this behemoth comes barreling down toward you. I don’t think we’re even close to scratching the surface of what he’s going to be yet

Absolutely. Its nice having a "villain" for once. At least one that can actually play.
