I fully remember a lot of the "WTF" around the Rempe pick, too. I really love the idea of taking big guys that can skate (Edstrom is a very good skater for his size - not as good as Rempe, but still very good - probably league average or barely below).

My thought would be to take at least one each draft as a mid-round flyer if they are there. 6'6"+ 200lb+ kids that can skate can be molded into what you want them to be. If they flame out, they flame out.
Imagine having a few Rempe's on one team.

ironically, Rempe was a skill forward in the Dub

That's why he's such a good pick. He actually had skills unlike a lot of just large dudes. He could skate, he could shoot and pass, and take a regular shift. AND play good D.

I think Edstrom is a better skater than Rempe...maybe Rempe might be a touch faster in a straight line but he's still got a lot of that big guy awkwardness and pivots and such are slow. Edstrom just looks like a regular good NHL skater except he's giant.

e: I find it a bit weird that the main board thread has basically just devolved into people being given free reign to slag the kid and say whatever they want to about him.

Why do you think I just was f***ing around in that thread? f*** that shit. It was one of the most unhinged, deranged threads I have ever seen on this board. I don't think I've ever seen a bunch of lunatics calling to kick someone out of the league before like this. It's utterly f***ing hilarious and I cannot wait to see how much further into these peoples' skulls.

I suspect next game against the Devils Rempe and MacDermid will have it out.

MacDermid doesn't have a rep for going out and injuring players. He's also not a very good skater. Rempe's stride is a bit awkward and needs more work but he gets around really well and with speed. MacDermid's a little more stable on his feet but he's not quick and he's not fast. Kurtis doesn't have near the ability that Rempe has to play a really effective hitting game even when he's playing up as a forward. When he's playing D he's kind of a lesser Ben Harpur as far as skating goes anyway. MacDermid's balance is good and that helps make him more effective at fighting.

Or do they keep Rempe out that night to avoid a whole fiasco?

I would play him but keep him out of the fighting unless he can get the jump on him if he acts up on our other guys . Fight only if deemed needed . I like the kid on the ice and in the crease and I would prefer him to work on the fight skills in the off season and stay away from guys that can hurt him and cause serious concussion like symptoms . He is more valuable to us long term PLAYING and not fighting every 2nd game .

I really think Rempe helped this team. His youthful energy was different than from other kids we have had lately. I think it was something our vets got a kick out of. Sometimes the season and game becomes a real energy drain. Hopefully he gives a boast when he is back.

I like Rempe but he needs to be much smarter. I’m thinking he might have made himself a distraction vs Pitt and NYI. Instead, two very workmanlike easy wins. I love Rempe’s potential but also hope he understands that most games his best contribution will be forechecking, digging, and screening the opposing goalie.
I know this has been said a bunch, just wanted to point out these past two games as examples.

I mean, I think we can all agree. Let's see how he works on it.

While I think there is some validity to what you are saying regarding the last two games, there were definitely points in both games where it would have been nice to have him banging bodies with heavy (clean) hits that has the opposing defenders shitting themselves.

He has to play smarter and more responsible, otherwise 1) everyone is going to want challenge him as a chance for retribution & 2) he just simply won’t be on the ice. I mean I cannot imagine what that next Devils game will be like. He f***ed up Bastian and Siegenthaler. While the Bastian one was deemed not worthy of suspension, the Devils are not going to see it that way. That shitbag Macdermid was trying to fight him in that last game for the Bastian hit.
