I think I’d rather get a closer look at Petruzelli and have the excitement of a rookie goalie making a debut than Matt Murray to be honest. Don’t think I need that high anxiety storyline.

They play well enough in spurts to make you forget for a minute that this is the reality of the goaltending position this year, don't they?

Not a great state of affairs.

Need Murray to play often and play well if we want to move him this summer

Well, there's no room for in-between results.

Either he's a raging success and we're talking about Murray as a Masterton nominee who rebuilt his career and we happily keep him for Year 2, nevermind Samsonov.

Or he's a raging permanent LTIR case and he can take his money and run and we can have cap space to fight another day.

If he's mediocre and in and out of the lineup all season, but otherwise healthy to start next year, jamming up a Samsonov re-sign, it will wreck the team to have to pay to get rid of him. That would be a fireable offense on a JFJ level of goalie mismanagement.

I think if he can hit 35+ games with a close to average sv% he's moveable without too much difficulty (or potentially worth keeping lol)

If he flops he's bought out. The cap penalty is actually fairly low at the moment. But obviously hope doesn't come to that

I think you have to LTIR him. Give the guy his 100% salary with our cap space intact. There’s enough medical history on Matt Murray that an LTIR wouldn’t be much of a stretch.

Unless he's a reliable starter by year end he certainly won't be able to sell the story that he's finally feeling healthy and his coach has figured out what's been wrong these last few years next off season.

Let the next GM figure that out 😉

Let Petro get a game and give the kid a taste. See what we have. Don't rush Murray back just to tweak his groin again. An extra few days can't hurt.

Need the player to agree though. Depends on if he wants to keep playing beyond his current contract + his actual health of course
