Matt Murray- What would you be willing to give up to get rid of him

I'd almost definitely want a lesser AAV/cap hit in comparison to Murray's if taking back a player that won't be on an expiring contract. I'd probably prefer to retain Timmins over having him utilized as the incentive/sweetener for a Murray trade though.

Whatever. Even if I had hated Dubas with a wed hot flame, I would have still made that comment. And I would have made the same comment regardless of whose Instagram behaviour you were talking about.

As for Dubas, I thought he was doing a decent job. But he’s gone now and Treliving is the Leafs GM. We’ll see what he does. Honestly, I’m not sure why people are still talking about Dubas. I moved on about 15 minutes after he was let go.

Gossiping? He’s sharing info he heard (which I heard as well) because historically a player unfollowing the team has been a good indicator they’re about to be traded or bought out
 
No one. Seems like a buyout is the safest route with him. Unless there are some garbage prospects you can package with him to free up contracts or something.

Sure, would have been ideal, but you’d have needed someone who both wanted our pick and could take Murray. Have to have a willing trade partner

Yeah that may be. I believe he could probably have traded down and recouped at least a pick, but they took Cowan where they did because they were convinced he was the BPA. I don't agree with that (yet) but it has to be encouraging that they were so convinced what he could be they wouldn't slide down a few picks and risk losing him.

About Helly, the Knights didn't need him and neither did the Avalanche. Maybe clubs like the Leafs and Oilers do. Maybe if you don't have a top tier defence thats what you have to have.

I guess we are seeing pretty quickly why/how Treliving sucked in Calgary..
Really wanting a guy projected to be picked 15 - 20 spots lower is fine but trade down 5 to 10 spots and get something in addition to “your guy”.
Chicago wanted to move up. Pick 28 and Murray to Chicago for pick 35.
Toronto would look exactly the same but would have shed a bad contract

I expect the pick was sold to him by the Leafs scouting department. The decision on the trade down was likely because he was informed this was the clear BPA and not a member of a tier. Not my opinion but if they think they have Konecny 2.0 at #28 they will find a less costly way of dealing with Murray. Next will hopefully show if they made the right call. Late risers are always a shock when you think you have a short list.
