Murray gives the team no confidence. He can’t move. He doesn’t react to pucks close to him, how many goals have we had scored against us and how many times have you seen him make a scramble save?

Murray is a below average NHL goalie. Not even below average starter - he’s below average for all the goalies.

Hogberg should be the starter. Murray isn’t a winning goalie anymore

Crazy talk. Murray will absolutely not be left unprotected. They traded and signed him to be the number one as this team grows. No chance he’s not protected.

Never know if he completely bombs this year. it's not like they paid a steep price. We paid the same thing for frigging Stepan

Clearly the team in front of him.
Well blame it on the team if you want, but Seattle isn't taking the risk for a 6 mil dollar sub 900 goalie.

The team sucks but Murray hasn't looked sharp, i don't blame him for everything but he is getting beat clean, doesn't have his stick in position, letting out big rebound and losing track of the puck, he bears some of the responsibility for his numbers.

When he locked things down in the ECF he was a completely different goalie. He completely outperformed Fleury who went on to be solid in Vegas

Oh for sure, I completely agree with you. I've been saying this whole time "Clearly Murray doesn't have that clutch save like Andy had"... It goes a long way for the team in front of him to have confidence in their goalie. They lack that right now. We need more swagger from our goalie, so far he's just been the opposite.

I still think Murray is going to be just fine. He's a young guy with an impressive pedigree. Lots of quality goalies have put up ugly numbers so far this year. It's way too early to be this negative about the guy. It's not as if we have a competent defense.

Thats a fair point, it's early in a season after an abnormally long lay off.

League wide sv% is down, average this year is .905, compare that to last years at .910, doesn't seem like a big gap but it's the lowest average sv% since 2006

Pierre Groulx as our goaltending coach should be shaking his head at himself. Not everything is a black and white player vs coach situation but there are absolutely many moments that are about coaching and with Murray it would be very good for him right now to have some strong leadership and coaching surrounding him... wouldn't hurt the Ottawa Senators to have a solid sports psychology/mental coach to work with the guys for confidence and visualization. Many professional sports teams in all leagues have a coach like that and we would stand to benefit no question.

I agree with this D squad Murray is not that bad but Im still looking for a no softy game from him
He
If hes not going to steal games for us he needs to at least stop all the easy shots

Murray has some issues.. Often too deep in his net; Not finding his angles; Glove hand....
One thing that most of the uber positive guys said is that for the Sens to do well they need good goal tending..
Not blaming him.. the Corpses running around at C ice and the bigger slower D are not helping.

I kind of had a "what???" moment when they traded for an unsigned Murray, given the options on the market. I assumed a deal-in-principal was in place, because leverage. When I heard the contract, I was a bit concerned, but handed my faith over in a gift basket to management. They know things I don't, right?

I would rather have Andy in at this point. Put aside the weak goals, assume he will plug the leaks. What about the saves every NHL goalie makes from scrambling? The ones that get played every commercial break on NHL Live. Murray seems to be so far out of position, or has the wrong momentums, or not quick enough, i don't know, but there is never a chance for a heroic save.

So okay, I'm still saving some optimism that he will eventually be lights out, but at this point this is concerning. Is he going to be a 6+ mill/year mentor?

Why protect someone that seattle will never take?
Yeah at that money? Dorion certainly made sure we have him for a long time.

what I don’t get is how is a goalie another team wanted to get rid of worth a massive contract before he’s played a single game for you

Murray was a good gamble to make given his age and track record before last season, but the contract Dorion gave him is ridiculous.

6.25M was way too much money given Murray's struggles the past year and the pandemic environment. And we got no discount for signing him to a 4YR deal.

Such an unnecessary risk to take. Should have signed him to a 1-2YR show-me contract where he could prove he's still a starter.

How has he been? I picked him in my pool hoping for a bounce back season from him and have seen that his stats aren't good so far. Has he been shaky or has the issue been team defense?

What happens if Murray continues to suck and Hogberg or Daccord don't emerge as a capable starter?

Would we trade/sign for an actual #1 goalie and make Murray the backup? Or would we have to suffer through the remaining 3YRs of his deal without a true #1 goalie?

It's kinda true that Murray was just a victim last night. But maybe he coulda had a few more of those.

Not sure why we had to sign him for 4 years though during the pandemic.
