Hell baby
There's been a few times this year where he has been at the very least partially responsible for a goal we scored while not registering on the point sheet. Had his ass planted in front of the net on the Krejci goal yesterday IIRC.

Speed kills in the NHL. Unless you're Carl Hagelin, and have no finish or heart.

Anaheim was going to get burned eventually. They have an overrated GM.

When you don't add anything to an aging (but very talented core) except for offseason acquisitions like Cogliano and Hagelin, it's going to burn you eventually.

"Grinders" are very important this league (at least having a couple of them). The way Anaheim manages its roster reminds me a lot of how Bob Gainey used to do in MTL. Don't worry about building a balanced team...just find the most finesse players and throw them into a lineup. It's a video game mentality. It doesn't win you Cups.

Summary: The Bruins are getting the guy they coveted from the West Coast. The goals aren’t there, but he’s brought a needed effort each and every night and plays hard, providing the all-important leadership by example. His 10 points in 20 games has him on pace for his best offensive season, and he’s creating space for his line mates with his physical brand of hockey. Beleskey doesn’t have the natural size to be a classic and even feared power forward, but he’s not shy about sticking his nose in and taking one for the team.

There are some who will just point to the $3.8M cap hit and draw a direct correlation to the downturn in goals, but when you consider that some pundits were predicting him to sign for upwards of $4.5 or 5 million last July, the Bruins are getting solid value. At age 27 and with four more years on the books, he’ll probably live up to the contract and then some so long as he can stay healthy. Because of his kamikaze style of play, it takes a toll on his average frame. However, when all is said and done, no one will ever accuse Beleskey of being soft.

In short, you win with guys like that, and this is why- as we look at Boston’s record after 22 games- they sit at a solid 13-8-1 overall. There aren’t many who would have put money on them being 5 games over .500 at the quarter pole with the team they had on paper coming into the season. Beleskey’s contributions, especially at even strength when the power play has not been there to carry the club offensively, are a big reason you can make a case that he’s right up their with the big guns- Krejci, Bergeron, Marchand, Eriksson as one of the team’s most valuable players during this stretch of the season.

Great write-up!

Milan was my favorite Bruin from the moment I first officially became a real B's fan and actively started watching hockey, back in 2010. Once they trade him, I was disappointed that I was losing my favorite player. I have to be honest, if Belesky keeps playing the way he is right now, for the rest of the season, I might just have a new favorite Bruin...

As much as I love guys like Marchand and Patrice, I've always loved hitters. I probably always will.

well yea because that trade was horrible but thats besides the point. all the good posters left and this place isn't what it used to be. if people were smart they would go back and find my gems and see why I was voted greatest poster alive but now i'm retired.

Yeah, because the natural reaction for a smart person when reading whingy posts by someone who can't seem to move on from a player who hasn't been on the team in years and with whom our team arguably wouldn't even be better right now is to say "Well, that guy's annoying, but since I'm a smart person, I can deduce that he once wasn't and used to make great posts, I had better spend hours reading through them"!

And how are you retired?

6 million man. 2 goals sweet value.

He's making a little over half of six million. Unless you are factoring the retained $$$ from the lucic deal, which would be incorrect because Beleskey wasn't involved in that but a two 1st's, Kurlay, and Colin Miller were in some shape or another and I'd say Miller alone has been worth the money retained on Lucic.

direct replacemwnt for lucic.

was suppose to bring speed and grit with scoring touch. lol played with perry and getzlaf.

Once again bruins have the highest paid 3rd and 4th line in nhl.

Spooner, Pastrnak, Vatrano, Rinaldo, Randall, Kemppainen, Connolly, Ferraro

8 players than make up our bottom six make LESS than 7 million dollars combined lol

Beleskey on pace for 41 points

Lucic on pace for 49 points

Beleskey top 5 in NHL in hits bringing tons of grit and on pace to have a career high in points for 3.8 million

You definitely don't watch any bruins games. This is stat watching at its grossest.

Beleskey has the speed and brings grit every single night. He is 9th in the NHL (7th among forwards) in total hits, having played in basically 3-5 less games than everyone ahead of him. He averages 4.1 hits per game, which is 5th in the league (4th among forwards). He may not have the ideal size of a powerforward, but is playing that style of game perfectly.

And while he's not scoring, he's still clipping at a .50 PPG pace, thanks to him putting up assists. A lot of his assists have been key ones as well. I think it's actually a positive he's showing that he can be more than a "shooter" like he was in ANA. The goals will come for him.

You obviously think everything = scoring goals. You couldn't be more wrong. Watch a game first before coming in here spewing nonsense.

He also didn't play most of his time with Getz/Perry. Most of it was spent with Kesler on the 2nd or 3rd units IIRC.

Try watching a game or two.

Beleskey being good so far this year is barely an opinion. Everyone I know who actually watches and pays attention to games is happy with him. So, I'm going to guess you're not paying attention/not watching anything other than a stat sheet.

I've been satisfied; would hope for more goals, but they'll come - he's been more noticeable with some linemates than others (Krejci v Spooner); I would have thought he'd click more with Spooner because of speed

If people are going to keep bringing Lucic into the equation, then compare Lucic to Beleskey + Chiller + two first round picks. Beleskey is never going to be like-for-like with Lucic, and nor should he be - but in my opinion he comes fairly close, and that represents great value for the Bruins.

Watch the games before you post, the guy has brought tremendous speed and grit, has done everything asked of him except to bury a few more pucks.

Haven't been around much lately due to the holidays. Watched the Rags game after missing the previous two games and just want to say that Beleskey was a goddam beast in that game. I seriously fell in love with him as a player on Friday.

He's one of those guys whose motor just never stops. Absolutely love that we got this guy.

There was a point in that game after the fight that Beleskey went to the net hacking and slashing away at Hank until the whistle blew without fear or hesitation. Great signing!

if the B's can stay at the current pace, this team is built to do some good damage in the playoffs and go far. Only question mark is still on defense, but opportunity shows you what you have. How else do guys start playing themselves onto nhl rosters.....

Beleskey's intensity play against the Rags was very similar to the playoffs games he demonstrated last year while playing with the Ducks.
I enjoyed his play in the playoffs and if he can play this type of game he will be a very important part of the bruins success as the year progresses.

The goals will come but I love how he plays. Takes no games off, takes no shifts off... Even at his best Lucic did that all the time. He's been shuffled up and down the lineup and was injured for a while. He will get used to everything and start scoring, and that'll only be a bonus. He has been everything I was hoping for.

For all the "love the way he plays and don't care about the goals" crowd, I have one question: Do you think the Bruins management signed him to be the guy who plays hard but is currently scoring .10 GPG, or were they expecting something closer to the guy last year who still played hard but converted at a .34 GPG rate?

Simple question. Tough answer though, if you're being honest.

What has burned them? Lots hockey left yet.I think they will be right there at the end.
