any news on what happened? lots of his family and friends at the game too

It must have been important to scratch him for that game. Like really important. It's not the game to sit a player unless it's for a really good reason.

There were more than a few guys who's play has been worthy of pressbox time. It's not like the team was killing it and a coach might not want to mess with a lineup.

It's not been a great year for him but Joseph is definitely a player in the lineup for the team imo.

Consensus seems to be that this was an internal discipline issue of some kind. Obviously he isn't being scratched for poor play recently, because he hadn't played. Maybe he has been habitually late for practices/meetings, maybe he got into it with a member of the coaching or training staff - whatever it was, it was such that DJ felt like he had to send a message. When a player has a guaranteed one way contract, the coach only has one weapon at his disposal - playing time.

The fact that he had friends and family coming to the game is something that DJ would have known, and if we know one thing about DJ is that he is a player's coach. He wouldn't have done this unless he felt he had no other choice.

As someone put it this morning, Mathieu Joseph knows why he was scratched. If he wants to share that reason he can, but you can bet that no one from the team will talk about it, and the obedient media who cover the team on a daily basis won't spill either - they don't want to get frozen out and lose their insider access.

"They won without him" might be the dumbest reason to scratch him again. We won one f***ing game but we've lost many more as well without him. Idiot.
Based on that tweet, I don't think DJ said that. It looks like Garrioch is just guessing, which is just about all he can do these days it seems.

The whole thing screams 'bush league' and hopefully is something that a future ownership/management group doesn't tolerate.

IMO, not disciplining someone when they break a team rule is bush league. But that's just me.
You have no clue that anyone broke a team rule. You are speculating. That's the problem. The team won't discuss what has happened and has let media speculation run rampant. That is bush league communications.

All the team had to say was that Joseph was being held out due to an internal discipline issue involving team rules and that they won't discuss specifics. Professional. Done. Happens all the time in sports.

Instead, we get a circus of nonsense and distraction.

Also, posting smarmy comments like "But that's just me." is childish. You wouldn't speak to me like that in person. Why do it on a forum? I'm not sure why people go out of their way to be antagonistic online? Do you honestly need more conflict in your life? Seriously? It's a discussion board. Do us all a favour and drop the attitude.

You're the one calling the team and DJ Smith bush league for something you don't even have any details about. You wouldn't tell him that in person, would you? So don't give me that indignant bullshit.

If we don't have details — even basic details — that's because of the team's communications, or lack thereof. Nothing wrong with calling the comms here bush league. Not that we're owed anything, but they could've easily avoided this uncertainty by just being upfront.

You'll notice a huge difference between hockey and football in terms of how they handle these kinds of things. In the NFL and CFL (and college football) they are very open - guy breaks a team rule and they announce it to the world, along with the discipline the player received. On the other hand, there is a real culture of secrecy in the NHL - "what happens in the room stays in the room", etc. It starts with injuries, and continues on to matters like this. Maybe Joseph himself will elaborate, but my guess is that he just cops to a vague, "violation of team rules", and will be quite anxious to drop it and move on...

Joseph - it was an internal thing. I'm an adult and I take responsibility for my actions and now I want to get back hockey.

Joseph - last time I played against my brother was in the AHL so playing him tomorrow will be exciting for our whole family.

LMFAO. Brucie is really struggling since Melnyk died.
Pretty much just bet on the opposite of what he says. Hopefully he thinks Dorion is trying to add to the d core....

So exactly what the level headed posters thought and it was handled exactly like they should have. Didnt throw anyone under the bus didnt air out the teams dirty laundry.
