Greig will be coming in to a more mature and skilled team so makes sense he won't play up the lineup like Formenton was able to but let's not forget Formenton earned his ice time by playing well in the AHL and then becoming an elite PKer - he is already incredibly valuable.

Also the bolded is nonsense. Now you have taken to insinuating Formenton is selfish? You also call him soft which he obviously isn't. Is he the new whipping boy?

Please - don’t be so sensitive … this forums is full of comments insulting players. Brann get insulted 100 times a day here.

I like Formy but I’m not pretending he’s a complete player.

I can imagine that Joseph thought he’d get a crack at the top six which is good for future earnings only to have two guys parachuted in front of him.

Hopefully he’s professional about it and bides his time for an eventual opportunity.

As for arbitration, meh.

Gonna be interesting to see this guys next Contract.

Honestly would not mind handing him 3.25M over 8 years without any trade protection or signing bonuses.
Don't think he would do it but I would happily go 5+ yrs in the 3m range.

Either way, he will still get more opportunity than he did in Tampa. Also, he has a very good chance to be a member on a super skilled PP unit. Better for him to have four of Pinto/Stutzle/Debrincat/Norris/Giroux/Batherson/Chabot/Sanderson than just one or two of them + Brown/Formenton/Zub.

It could still happen if we spread things out across 3 lines to create matchup hell for the opposition.

If you have 50 mins of facing one of the following duos at any given time, that's a rough night and allows us to give guys like Formenton, Joseph and Pinto top 6 quality linemates.

Tkachuk, Norris
Stutzle, Giroux
Batherson, Debrincat

I'm not being sensitive I am telling you that characterizing Formention as a selfish player is terrible evaluation.

Should he stop on his breakaways so he can pass the puck? What are you even talking about?

At 22 he leads the league in shorties, almost scores 20 from the 3rd line, improves as the season goes on yet you want to call him soft and selfish. Poor evaluation.

Moreover, when players are in this situation I'm sure there agents are in their ears telling them it's a good scenario. Play on a strong third line on a very deep team and take advantage of matchups and when the opportunity arises slot into a dynamic top 6 and take advantage of elite line mates and possibly PP time. Not a bad situation for a player who chooses a short term deal and will be UFA after.

I like the idea, though I need to see Stutzle and Debrincat together. Stutzle's ability to hold the puck in traffic and make plays would pair too perfectly with Debrincat's ability to find space and his shot. Also think they would be a handful in transition. It's a long season though and there's always tinkering.

If that is the case then Tkachuk and Norris by no mean should be the 1st line, with Batherson and Debrincat being the 3rd.

Following is the how I would place it considering the skill level and amount of offense these players can create

Formenton - Stutzle - Giroux
DeBrincat - Pinto - Batherson
Tkachuk - Norris - Joseph

Generally, the time will be distributed. Some games one line with play significantly more than the other depending on performance.

How ever, this theory looks good on paper but wouldn't last past 2 periods.

We will be seeing a million line combination, during the course of the season with Watson playing on the 1st line in some games

All good - I am aware they we view hockey players differently and I don’t feel like explaining to you what parts of Formy’s game justifies me calling him selfish.

Injuries will happen too and I’m sure he will probably have 15-20 games in the top 6. Or, who knows, maybe Pinto hits it off with Giroux and the Sens have three effing sick lines

I liked him, but he never could put it all together here. He seemd to improve some in Ottawa. HE is fast but was knocked off puck easily in battles . He would get a lot of breaks but didnt finish a lot in TB. I hope he finds a spot and further develops.

I was nodding along in agreement until you said "Watson"!

Knowing DJ he might put Watson on the 1st line for a few shifts or even more. Every game is not going to be ideal when you have to play 82 games.
If you said Reaves I would agree as Reaves would be like "Semenko" riding shotgun for Gretzky. Watson is not like Reaves or Semenko. He is not feared for his policeman abilities.

Zero justification to put our most creative Center with our least left creative winger when it such a strength in the org.

Formenton won’t be playing for the Sens this year regardless, so it’s a moot point
Given a connection to the Q I feel your post could have had two names but you’ve only included one. I will take this as at least somewhat encouraging on the other name.

Do you think he'll be packaged in a trade? Or are you referencing potential fallout from the CHL scandal?
