There’s no real plans to trade Barzal and the offers have been awful for the Islanders honestly. A middle 6 forward, 1st and average prospect just won’t cut it. That just honestly seems counterproductive and would just scream player wants out so dump him cheap. As much as people hate to see it, Barzals age and play style prove he can go for an Eichel style package/a bit more.
yeah problem is players like this just arent traded because the price teams are willing to give up arent worth it.
I mean Mark Stone extended brought in as a center piece Brannstrom and Oscar Lindberg + 2nd
so should give an idea of what ur really going to get.
teams are cheap majority of the time.

Newhook, E. Johnson and a 1st RD from the Avs might be a solid offer for the Isles to consider.

It’s like you just dusted off the Tavares pre UFA threads. Where you called for the Isles to move from Tavares and build on younger players… like Barzal.

Who would you like the Isles to prop up next, only to give up before actually giving any supportive players?

You’re likely not getting a better player trading Barzal. The package you get for Barzal likely gives them more of what they have, and less of what they need… more depth, less skill.

So then what? Waste the years of Pelech, Pulock, Dobson and Sorokin while hoping and waiting on landing another skilled player to build on?
No worries the Oilers will take him off your hands and you owe us one for that Reinhart trade

You mean to tell me it doesnt make sense to trade the one talented forward the isles have? All while searching for a 2nd talented forward to pair with him?
But other teams want him so the Islanders must trade him for a mediocre return and set the team back even further. You mean you don’t want a 2nd line winger plus some hopes and dreams prospects/picks instead?

NYI is in a tough position where it still makes sense to try to add to their team and get back in the playoffs next season but it also makes sense for them to blow it up and trade players for younger players, prospects and picks.

Same with Dallas they got some good veterans and good young guys and could go either way.

Didn't realize Lou Lam was on hfboards. Cool.

Do they have a #1c to replace him...if not, why trade him?

I think after getting 85 points in 82 games his rookie season a few people expected him to br hitting 100 points in a good year. I think some people don't realize the Islander style Barzals first year inflated stats while Trotzs system doesn't really help stats.

In a hypothetical scenario we could trade Barzal in a package for a slightly better center I think no matter who we traded for you would probably see a 10% decrease in that players stats

I know there has been conversation on the Jets board around Scheifele for Barzal. Not sure if that makes a ton of sense for the Isles tho …

change that RD to LD and I'd seriously consider that offer. Don't think the Avs would though, fitting in Barzal would be incredibly difficult when his next contract is due.
Um…“RD” is short for “round”, not right defense—1st round pick, not 1st right defense.

But maybe I’m dense and missing the sarcasm in your post.

If we trade him, it will be for guys like Larkin, Pettersson etc. Not for picks and prospects. But I hope we just extend him for 8 years.

I believe the Summer of 2023 will be the best free agent class of all time. And to be frank the 2024 class isn’t to far behind either. Now Long Island isn’t the most attractive spot for a young forward but I’d like my team to have all the cap space that Is needed to offer a max contract to Pasternak/McKinnon/Larkin/Matthews/Aho/Nylander. I don’t like Matt Barzal. I think he’s a selfish globe trotter who plays to much east west game ala an Alexei Kovalev. He thinks he’s Connor Mcdavid when truth of the matter is his play is like Connor Mcdavid after a half bottle of ouzo. I don’t want to give him 8 years 80 million and to be truthful I think it will cost more. So Seattle, Vancouver, Los Angeles what are you offering??? And one more thing if the Islanders weren’t interested in offers the rumor of the Red Wing package for him at the deadline would have never seen light. They’re interested, trust me...

Nylander's the only player that makes sense going to NYI. I don't think the others would even get to hit free agency.

Keep Barzal, sign Nylander.

Now, Nylander isn't an elite 1st liner, but, he can play near point per game with a guy like Barzal for sure.
He's a very streaky player, doesn't know what the word "defense" means, but, he can flat out score and dominate possession.

Nylander would probably cost 8 million for 8 years for him to sign with NYI.

If Hutton keeps progressing and proves he can play consistent minutes as a bottom pairing guy. See if Toronto will do an off season Mayfield+ for Nylander. He’s probably the only guy I’d be interested in that Toronto has outside of the obvious untouchable pair of Marner and Matthews. Leafs fans want their physical RHD and like you stated Nylander hopefully solves an offense problem the Islanders have had for YEARS.

I don't think it would be smart to trade for Nylander, you can just wait to sign him in 2024.

Leafs won't be able to resign Nylander as he'll be up for a raise.

That’s if they want him for next season vs waiting 2 more though. Waiting for UFA status would be ideal though.

Imagine being so insecure that you’re still upset about someone else getting a compliment several years ago.
Imagine being so disingenuous that they don't mention that it's almost every game Eddie has the privilege to commentate of Matthew Barzal.
