I like him. But it's another MacArthur situation. Buyer beware this summer, he can always go back to his ineffective ways that got him out of Vancouver. It was a 1 year deal and he was clearly playing for contract this year. If he wants more than $2mil (which he should be able to get), then we need to let another team make that mistake. We have plenty of wingers in the Marlies that can replace him next year at a lower price.

Like who?

Who's going to come in and score 20 clutch goals for us?

I like him at 1-2 mill I don't know how much I'd like him at 3.5-4. That is his market value I guess but he doesn't provide enough for it to make sense to resign him. I'd rather target someone like sobotka. Plus we have enough offensive first almost zero defensive zone coverage. He does play pk but mainly cause of his speed

Stop gap or key piece? He basically replaced MacArthur. The reason we replaced MacArthur was ultimately his salary demands. He was ok in limited playoff action, but not worth the extra cash. If Raymond has a huge playoff, I think we sign him. It will need to be plays like last night that force Nonis' hand to sign the cheque.

Not a fan of his game at all but he can certainly score.

I thought he played really well last night.

Although he's had a good year, there's no need to resign him as he'll be looking for term and $ raise of course, best option is to try to do the same thing this summer, pick up a cheap FA who is undervalued. Gilbert in Florida is a good example of this, the Panthers picked him up for 900,000 and he's been playing top pair minutes

He's going to demand a hefty raise and I honestly think we can find better options for the 3rd line.

He has been critical in many wins this year. Not sure why people hate on him. One of the best contracts in the league this year.

I'd take MacArthur over Raymond. Let him walk and replace him I. FA or if a young guy steps up then even better

It is 3rd line players like Raymond which teams need to avoid to overpay and fill the gap with interims (like Raymond this season) or youngsters. It comes down to a simple question of value/price.

We already have a gloryfied, pricy 3rd liner longterm in Clarkson ... no need or cap space for more of that. Mason Raymond is going to get his 3.5m/ 4 years contract. Hope it won't be from the Leafs.

Huge goal by Raymond last night. He kind of paused and then looked like he said f it; I'm just going to blast this on net before I look like a fool.:)

Because he's essentially a MacArthur replacement, he's just a spare part.

With that said, what a depth guy to have. If we can afford him, I'd welcome him back.

He is exceptional for his value. But at 3 million for a depth scoring winger who doesn't PK much-if at all(to my knowledge), is questionable defensively, and streaky I don't resign him. He doesn't fill a "need" for this team. While he will hit 20 goals, we have 5 other people who have or will as well, not including the increase in goals coming from our d-men of late.

The fact he has a shorthanded goal and assist in the last two games should be an indication that he does in fact PK

I stand corrected, I haven't noticed him save for recently which is why I contended limited. I've mainly seen Bozak, McClement, Kuli and JVR. He's playing on the 2nd PK unit. Regardless it doesn't change my opinion we need a different skill set for the price he'll end up costing us.

He is a highly underrated player, but we need to either acquire/ develop someone for Kadri. Our top line is as good as the best, but our second line needs a finisher who thrives in traffic. Raymond, actually, seems a lot better in that regard than Lupul, but I thin we should have someone that's more younger.

LW - Kadri - Kulemin

Well Mac said that he clocked out on our team during playoffs when he was scratched so maybe he told Nonis and Nonis didn't bother to negotiate (he did say that he's not going to bother negotiate with a player that doesn't want to be here). On the other hand, Mac was spending time doing things wrong or getting scratched and maybe Nonis didn't really have any intention of re-signing him. Mac is a good player but the role he had to play by default wasn't a role that suited him so unless you change your coach or ask your coach to change your system or force your coach to play him in another role, did it make sense to bring him back?

Kulemin is the lone survive from that high scoring Wilson line and that's probably because Kulemin is ridiculously versatile.

Some of raymond's stats compared to the rest of the team

Goals - 19 (tied for #3rd with lupul)

Assists - 21 (#6th)

PPG - 6 (#3rd)

SHG - 1 (5-way tie for 2nd)

GWG - 4 (tied for #2nd with Kulemin)

In terms of finding that type of scoring in the Marlies, those aren't easily replaceable numbers at this point.

I really don't like Raymond. He is a turn over machine. I've seen him fail to get the puck deep and turn over the puck dozens of times this year due to his greedy play. I won't miss him but he's been worth the 1m.

Those stats really only show one side of the hockey player. He brings quality offense, it's his defense and inconsistency that is questioned. SHG's are awesome mind you, but those are provided from his speed.

Honestly... what's so wrong with Raymond's defensive play?

As for inconsistency, Raymond isn't going to cost the $4m+ that consistent 20 goal guys get.

Good offence but he'll command a way better contract and I wouldn't want him in the top six

Awesome value this year though

I think I'd maybe go as high as 2.5 million over 2-4 years. I like what he brings, but if he demands too much, I'd have no problem replacing him, maybe giving Leivo a shot?
